the penalties of perjury, says that:

During or between the months of October 20 19 and March 2020 in the County ofLaPorte and State
of Indiana, LORENZO J. MEDRANO, being at least 18 years of age, to wit: 61 years of age, and having
been employed by a school corporation, to wit: employed as a coach by La Forte High School, attended by
Victim 1, did knowingly 0r intentional engage in fondling or touching of Victim 1, a child at least sixteen
(16) years of age, but less than eighteen (1 8 ) years of age, to wit: sixteen (16) years of age, with the intent
t0 arouse or satisfy the sexual desires of LORENZO J. MEDRANO.

VS. AFFIDAVIT FOR PROBABLE CAUSE

Lorenzo J. Medrano

I, Det. Jared Schaefer

being duly sworn upon their oath, states:

1. That attached hereto and made a part of this affidavit is/are reports, statements, and/or other information per—

taining to the investigation of the charge(s) against the above-named Defendant(s). Based upon the attached
documents, this affiant has probable cause to believe the Defendant(s) committed said crime(s) of
Child Seduction LC. 35—42-4-7(q)(1), Level 6 Felony

2. Based upon his investigation this affiant has probable cause to believe the Defendant(s) committed the crime(s)
of

and in support thereof states the following facts based upon his investigation, to-wit:

I, Det. Schaefer, am assigned to the Detective Bureau with La Porte Police Department and on
07/21/2021 was assigned case #LP210700235 which
I is a Child Seduction case that occurred at the La
Porte high School (602 F St. La Porte, IN 46350).

I was notified by Brian Hirschbine (Department of Child Services) that he already interviewed the
Victim 1, (16 year 01d female at the time 0f the incident), and that it was determined to be her choice 0n
if she wanted t0 report the incident t0 Law Enforcement due t0 her being 18
years of age now. I made
contact with Victim 1 and she decided to proceed forward and make a formal statement. On 07/21/2021
Victim 1 arrived at the department and the following is a brief summary of the information that she had
provided.

After building rapport With Victim 1 and her explaining what the Color / Winter Guard programs
were,
I began on Lorenzo Medrano (Suspect). She explained that Lorenzo had coached at La Porte
to inquire
for a long time and that he had coached at multiple schools. Victim 1 advised that Lorenzo would drive
from Chicago everyday to coach. She was unsure if he taught any classes, but she stated that he was
fired in March of 2020 and wasn't sure why. I asked her what their relationship was like and she
explained that Lorenzo would not generally speak t0 new members of the team at first. However, when
Victim 1 started in 2018 when she was 15, Lorenzo spoke t0 her often. Victim 1 told me that Lorenzo
began by just making a lot of flirtatious cements towards her. He would tell her how pretty she was
and would inquire on if she had a boyfriend or not. I asked her what else would happen and she advised
that it was only Lorenzo making comments until the next Winter Guard 2019 season once she had
turned 16 years old.

Victim 1 advised that he began to touch her this season and explained the Speaker Duty to me. She informed me
thathe would always touch her before practice began and after it had ended when no one was around. I asked
her what led t0 these occurrences and she told me that Lorenzo began to tell her a story about how he ran
into a
pole and injured his ribs. At first, he demonstrated where the pain was located on himself, but he then touched
her rib / chest area. She stated that he began on her upper breast and ran his hand up and down on the outside of
her clothing. Victim 1 explained that Lorenzo then said "Oh, wrong side”, and proceeded to run his hand up and
down on her other breast and fondled her body to her upper thigh area. Victim 1 explained that she thought it
was weird but just shrugged it off at the time.

Victim 1 explained that it became daily occurrences of Lorenzo touching

her. She advised that it was always
over the clothing and never escalated beyond that. She was unsure if that had ever happened with
any other
students. Victim1 explained that there was a student, Witness
1, that told Victim 1 she had to "watch out" for
Lorenzo. asked her if she knew why he was fired and she stated that she did not. She informed me that

everyone else was devastated When they found out he was fired but she expressed that she was relieved.

I 0n what would happen on these daily occurrences between Victim 1 and Lorenzo. Victim 1
further inquired
advised that she would go into the Guard Room closet everyday before practice t0 retrieve items that
they will
need for the day. She explained that she would be in the corner attempting t0 get the speaker and Lorenzo
would follow her into there. He would proceed to close the door and lock it behind him. Victim 1 informed me
that Lorenzo would touch her the same way every day While she prepped the speaker. She told
me that he would
stand on her right side and wrap his hands around her t0 touch her breasts. She advised he would move his
hands up and down towards her upper thighs and then back up to her breasts. Victim 1 said that he would do
this for approximately one minute a day and never said anything while doing it. She stated that she never said
anything either. Victim 1 also expressed that it never escalated anymore than the touching on the outer clothing
as well. Victim 1 informed me that this was a 5—6 times a week occurrence.

Victim 1 advised that Lorenzo would have her leave the gym with him and had her try on several outfits that
were low cut V necks when no one was around. She stated that he would say things like "you're hot". Victim 1

explained that he would enter the women's restroom With her but never made her change in front of him. She
advised that he would always wait outside of the stall t0 see her outfits.

Victim 1 told me that Lorenzo had also invited her to the movies in front
of other members and they thought it
was extremely odd. Victim 1 explained that she never went to the movies With him though. She explained that
when they would go out 0f state for competitions, Lorenzo would ask her if she wanted to take a shower in his
room. She stated that he would tell her not to tell anyone about him asking these questions as well. Victim 1
advised that she never took a shower in his room and always made the excuse that she was busy.

On 08/05/2021 I spoke with Witnesses
and 4 (all 0f which were coached by Lorenzo Medrano while
1, 2, 3,
being students at the La
Porte High School) and they were all able to provide information that collaborated With
Victim 1's statement. Witness 1 explained that when she was in the program, Lorenzo would make
flirtatious
compliments towards multiple team members throughout the season. She advised that Lorenzo would often
grab girls hips during exercises as well. Witness 1 informed me that there were many times when Lorenzo

would wear athletic shorts or sweatpants and would have a visible erection during exercises.

Let it be noted, after speaking with Witness 1, I called Victim back and she was able to advise that
1 Lorenzo
did have a Visible erection often during practice.

Witness 2 also informed me of these ”corrective touches" that Lorenzo would often preform during practice
which consisted of him grabbing the girls by their hips. Witness 2 said that her father went to high school with
Lorenzo's wife, Cherie Schrader, and that Lorenzo was her coach as well but
they developed a relationship
while he was coaching her. Witness 2 stated that she remembered girls talking about Lorenzo having
an
erection but couldn't remember observing him with one herself. She advised that Lorenzo made
comments to
girls all 0f the time concerning their looks.

Witness 3 advised that Lorenzo made a large amount of comments about the student's
bodies. She explained
there was a time where he informed a group of students they didn't look mature due t0 them having smaller
breasts and butts. She told me that Lorenzo was extremely flirtatious and would constantly tell
students how
beautiful they were. She said that she was sitting with Victim 1 one day and that Lorenzo did in
fact ask Victim
1 to go to the movies with him. Witness 3 explained that
did remember observing Lorenzo With an erection a
few times during practices. She advised that she did observa Lorenzo graze several students butts during
exercises a few times. Witness 3 advised that she does remember Victim 1 mentioning around
two years ago
that Lorenzo did touch her chest while they were in the Guard Closet.

Witness 4 told me that Lorenzo had made girls uncomfortable with comments that he had made about them
while they were in costume. She said that there was not very much personal space in the program and
that it
seemed normal at the time but is weird looking back on it now. I asked her What the lack of personal space
meant and she reaffirmed all of the corrective touching he would preform while the girls were exercising. I
asked her if he was flirtatious and she stated that he would let them know that they were really or pretty had a
beautiful frame. I asked Witness 4 she ever observed Lorenzo with an erection during practice. Brianna said
if
that she remembered some 0f the girls talking about it but she didn't remember seeing him with one.

On 08/07/2021 Lorenzo arrived to the department for an interview. After reading the Advisement of Rights
form to him he advised that he wished to continue speaking with me and signed the form. The
following is a
brief summary of the information that he provided.

After building more of a rapport with Lorenzo, I began to inquire 0n his relationship with Victim 1. As soon as I
brought her up, he began to defend himself immediately stating that nothing physical ever occurred between
them. Lorenzo began t0 steer the conversation away from the topic at hand
by explaining 0f other situations that
he had to handle within in his career. He said that all he ever told Victim 1 was that she was beautiful while
wearing an angel costume for a performance. He told me that he told Victim 1 that he would love it if she
dyed
her hair blonde since she was supposed to be an angel. Lorenzo explained that Victim 1 wasn't in a lot
0f
due to her having an operation done. He stated that she had a big scar down her chest, Which he quickly
proj ects
followed up by stating the only reason he knew that was because someone told him that with other people
around. Lorenzo informed me that he was more sympathetic towards Victim l since she had difficulty breathing
during exercises. He was adamant on the fact that his relationship With Victim 1 was that of a teacher -
student
relationship. After further questioning, Lorenzo denied all allegations.

After speaking with allof these people, there have been several statements that corroborate With Victim 1's
statement. It has been discovered that Lorenzo did touch a large amount of students, even if it were for these
"corrective movements". It was also learned that during several practices, students
were able to remember that
Lorenzo was sexually aroused due to him having a visible erection. The fact that Witness 3 was able to confirm
Lorenzo asking Victim 1 to g0 to the movies with him shows that Lorenzo had been deceiving during his
interview as well. Several people were able to advise that Lorenzo had made multiple flirtatious cements t0
multiple students as well. I am unable to discover any reason Why Victim 1 would lie about the statement that
she made.

With the above provided information, the statement made by Victim 1, Witness 1's statement, Witness 2's
statement, Witness 3's statement, Witness 4's statement, and Lorenzo's interview; I, Det. Jared Schaefer,
respectfully request the Court find probable cause t0 issue an arrest warrant against Lorenzo Medrano for the
offense of Child Seduction LC. 35-42-4-7(q)(1), Level 6 Felony due t0 Lorenzo being employed by the La
Porte High School at the time 0f the incidents.
