Vortex Bladeless Wind Turbine
Vortex Bladeless Wind Turbine
Their idea is the Vortex, a Bladeless Wind Turbine that looks like
a gaint Baseball bat shooting into the sky. The vortex has the
same goals as conventional wind turbines : to turn breezes into
kinetic energy that can be used as electricity. But it goes about in
an entirely different way for enlightining you with the
difference , here is how a regular wind turbine works – wind
turbines operate on a simple principle, Vortex Shedding effect
which is an oscillating flow that takes place when a fluid as air or
water flows past a bluff body as certain velocities, depending on
the size and shape of the body. In the flow, vortices are created
at the back of the body and detach periodically from either side
of the body.
What is even more amazing is that its makers boasts about the
fact that there are no gears, bolts, or mechanically moving
parts!! The founders claim that Vortex Mini, which stands at
around 41 feet tall, can capture upto 40% of the wind’s power
during ideal conditions. On testing, the Mini ultimately captures
30% less wind power than conventioal wind turbine but that is
compensated by that we can put double vortex turbines in same
area as a propeller turbine. The Vortex Team says that it’s less
expensive, totally silent and safe for birds since no blades are
there.
Vorticity has long been considered the enemy of architects and
engineers. Where designers see danger, Vortex Bladeless
Founders -David Suriol, David Yanez and Raul Martin- see
opportunity. “We said, why don’t we try to use this energy, not
avoid it” Suriol says.
