English VIII, Group 12 Unit 1 –musical autobiography pre-writing

Name: Carolina Moreno Montenegro Date: August 21, 2021

 After doing the music and memory listening activity and taking part in the in class discussion on the topic, use this document
to search your memory for songs and events that are important to you.
 Exploring your memory and reflecting on them will help you decide which of your experiences are appropriate for this
project and which ones you want to develop in your musical autobiography.

1. What are your favorite genres of music? Why do you connect with them? Why are they meaningful to you?

Alternative, pop rock, R&B, electronic


I think that the rhythm of the songs relaxes me, or gives me energy charges, in addition, I think that the theme of the lyrics allows
me to experience other people's lives.

2. Who are your favorite singers, bands, or musicians? Why do you connect with them? Why are they meaningful to you?

Coldplay, The Weeknd, Imagine Dragons, The Killers, Sam Smith, Harry Styles, Adele, Avicii, The 1975

3. What are your favorite songs? What do you like about them? Why are they special to you?

The 1975 - Somebody Else


Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One
Coldplay - Talk
The Killers - Miss Atomic Bomb

I feel that I can relate them to moments in my life and relive the moment, remember the feelings, etc ...

4. What are the stories connected with your favorite songs? How did they become your favorites?
The 1975 - Somebody Else: It is about two people who had a relationship before and now the girl tries to continue with her life and
try again, while the boy does not overcome it, he does not get the idea that she is with another

They became my favorites because I link them with moments in my life, either because they look alike or I would have liked you to
end up like this, therefore, they make me feel alive.

5. Are there songs that remind of special people in your life? Why? Are there special people in your life that remind you of songs?
Why?

Yes, there are songs that remind me of people who are or were important in my life. I think it is because they contributed a grain to
my being, and in this world where time passes I use music as a time capsule to relive those moments.
For example: one direction // they don't know about us
6. Are there songs that you associate with important events in your life? Are there events in your life that you associate with
songs?

Yes, not necessarily because that song was playing at the time, but rather because of the lyrics of the song and the feelings it
awakens.

7. Are there songs that connect you to your family or specific memories of your family? Why?

Of course, there are songs that remind me of familiar moments, especially songs of the salsa genre because on holidays like
Christmas these songs are played frequently in the gathering.

8. Are there songs that bring you special memories of your childhood? How do they make you feel when you remember them?

Happy, they make me remember what I did, the moments I shared with colleagues, etc.
Intrigued, they also make me doubt what would have happened if ...

9. Are there songs that bring you special memories of your school or university ? How do they make you feel when you remember
them?

Yes, although at the moment I don't really like the songs that were in fashion back then, I can say that certain songs like the
reggaeton genre remind me of when I was studying high school. The truth is not that I like it very much, it makes me feel
uncomfortable, but at the same time it is like a reminder of what I have lived and what I do not want to repeat.

10. Are there songs that remind of performances, either that you participated in or watched? How do they make you feel when
you
remember them?

Yes, these songs make me remember the moment, as if I was living it again, and it makes me feel alive. It depends on what I
remember, I feel joy, sadness, anger, etc ... Commonly they remind me of a specific moment for two reasons: 1) That song was in the
background at that time or 2) the lyrics are perfect for my life tragicomedy
