SOCIAL SCIENCE SOCIETY
NORSU-GUIHULNGAN CAMPUS
ACTIVITY PROPOSAL
Name of Activity: WEEK OF WELCOME (WOW): MAG ILA-ILA ‘TA, 2021!
Theme of the Activity: “Building Connections Beyond the Lens”
Rationale of the Activity:
The world was struck with the biggest adversity this generation is facing: the COVID-19
pandemic. Schools, businesses, and works were halted; lives of many shifted 360 degrees. Not
only did this pandemic continually harms the physical well-being of a person, but it has shown
effects in psychological and mental health aspect, as well. A major adverse consequence of the
covid-19 pandemic is likely to be increased social isolation and loneliness, which are strongly
associated with anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide attempts across the lifespan (Mahase,
2020). According to the study conducted in California, student peer organizations’ activities can
improve college student mental health attitudes and perceived knowledge and significantly
increase helping behaviors (Padilla, et. al, 2018). This acquaintance party is to not only assemble
the people having the same interests, but to send a message of hope: you are not alone.
The Social Science Society since its establishment, have always had spared a time to
meet and know its members. This meet and greet event have been anticipated by many. Over the
years, it has evolved – from simple dining event, to summer-themed programs, entertainment and
games...it sure has grown part of the tradition. More than the grandiose of the event, the purpose
lies in the organization’s motto, “HEN PANTA”, which means “all is one”. To be united as one
big family, to be able to bond and build connections through the acquaintance party, and to just
simply be there for each other strengthens the core of the organization.
WOW, MAG ILA-ILA ‘TA, 2021! is a week-long virtual acquaintance party that
emphasizes building of connections, showing your authentic self, and simply getting to know the
organization as a whole, BEYOND THE LENS.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: LEGACY OF THE POWERHOUSE
Here are the sample trivias and achievements proving that Social Science Society is indeed, a
powerhouse. These trivias will be posted on the official Facebook page of the Social Science
Department.
DYK? Elvie Edullantes, a third-year social science student won the
first ASEAN Quiz Bee during the ASEAN Culmination 2019.
DYK? THE FIRST GALLEON SHIP-inspired booth was initially
the idea of the current fourth year students. The Social Science Society
received the first place in the booth-making contest during the NORSU
Founder’s Day.
This is still an on-process research. The committee is still reaching out to the alumni for more
details.
This is better if you can do a quiz bowl competition, where each year level will have a two
representative, ask sir Dave to be the quiz master, you can pre-record the whole quiz show and
then livestream if after. The questions must be related social science like world history, asean,
sociology, civics, Philippines history and current evens… etc…
Over all your proposal is good and doable but preparations must be made ahead of time. Like a
week before the show, kulangon ra ang three days kay sa pag edit ninyo…
