An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Read the following statement carefully. Then write your observation report
on the provided space.

1. Describe the community or neighborhood where the school is found.

2. Describe the school campus. What colors do you see? What is the condition on
the buildings?
3. Pass the offices. What impression do you have of these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around and find out

Name of the School Observed: LEYTE NORMAL UNIVERSITY

School Address: Tacloban City

Leyte Normal University is located at Paterno street, Tacloban City.

The school is situated along the highway and is surrounded by convenience
stores, printing shops and computer shops are steps away from the school
and there are also food eateries around the area. The school campus is
composed of several buildings for different courses in college and for
elementary. On the external view, cream, brown and white colors are
dominating my eyes. The school campus is clean, attractive in color and wide
in space and the buildings are in good condition and well maintained. There
were also buildings that are still under construction and is being improved for
the college level in some courses. I can say that the school is friendly, safe
and promotes a good learning environment for the students. As I pass
through the offices of different course departments, I observed that the offices
are well-ventilated, organized in their filed documents and clean. Classrooms
are also well ventilated, though some parts of the walls are beginning to peel
as well as some chairs has vandalism on it. The library, as well as the
science laboratory are clean and well-maintained also by the staffs. They
have 1 cafeteria and 3 other canteens located at different sides of the
building for the accessibility of many students and has an appetizing
atmosphere. On the other hand, the computer laboratory is fully air
conditioned, and computers are available for the teachers and students and
teachers for researching purposes. With this kind of learning environment,
students can build and develop their skills and abilities.
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these task as you do your observation. Then

accomplish the matrix to record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. That are posted on the walls? What heroes,
religious, figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the teacher’s table
located? How are the tables and chairs/desk arranged?
3. What learning materials/equipment’s are present?
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the room well-lit and well-ventilated?

NAME of the SCHOOL OBSERVED: LEYTE NORMAL UNIVERSITY

Location of the School : Paterno Street, Tacloban City

In my own observation of the classroom, it is very much warm to study, it

is very comfortable, the classroom facilities they have are a big help to
motivate the students in the learning process. The environment and ambiance
of the room is very much appealing, and the room is well-ventilated. Plus, in
some other rooms, there are some audio/visual guides that can be used to
assist the learners’ mental process and the facilities are also well-maintained.
This type of surrounding can properly support a healthy learning environment
for the learners. Well-coordinated classroom arrangement with complete
facilities and other resources needed to support earning situations will have a
great impact in the learning capacity of the children

My Analysis

 How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the
learning of the students going to school? What are the conclusions?

Well-coordinated classroom arrangement with complete facilities and

other resources needed to support earning situations will have a great impact in
the learning capacity of the children. It will maximize or boost the children’s
interest in learning, and it would be very comfortable for them to go to school. It
will give the motivation that they need and become more competent in their
future studies and the teachers are the key players in making this happen for
every child. The facilities of the school campus and the classroom greatly affect
the students that go to school, because if the school and classroom is improper
the students will start to think not to go to school. For example, there are schools
nowadays that are very much limiting their cost in which the number of students
is not enough to the ratio of the chairs, to the extent that some students sat on
the floor. In this sample case, I therefore conclude that if the student is not
comfortable or satisfied of a certain school, he/she will get lazy and not be on
school, but if the student is comfortable or satisfied with the facilities of a school,
he/she will be more eager to attend school. It only shows how great is the impact
of the school to particular learning process.
 How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent
development/How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating
learning?

It relates in my knowledge about child and adolescent development that

made me aware of the uniqueness and differences of every learner that we have
to consider as a future teacher. I always have to keep in mind that children do not
learn in the same rate. In facilitating learning, I have to understand each child’s
behavior and personality and chose what strategies suit them most and use it
appropriately. It was said that the environment of a child affects a lot to his
development. When taking into this kind of stage, this is the very crucial level on
which what the child experiences be can bore within his life. What environment
he experiences might be remained handled within his existence. As a future
educator, know that I know that there are many factors that can affect the
students in going to school. And by knowing such factors, I can now adjust on my
student’s needs.

My Reflection/Insights

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed?
Why? Why not?

- Yes, I am willing to teach in the future the school environment that I

had just observed (also my alma mater) because I can say that the school
has a good approach to their learners, the school environment is very
accessible, surroundings is very peaceful that will help the learners to
develop themselves. The school had indeed good facilities, and if it
happened that the school has not, I would not change my decision
because student that schooling in a public schools need more attention to
guide their educational experiences. I have seen that it is hard for them to
study on that kind of environment but their perseverance to learn had
catch my attention so much.

2. What kind of school campus is conductive to learning?

- A conducive environment for learning, such as one with comfortable

classroom set-ups, relevant use of teaching materials and interesting
classroom activities, will further motivate the students to learn. The school
campus that is conducive for learning must have a complete, good, and
operating facilities that will surely help and benefit the student learners to
understand the subject matter they are studying. There must have also no
pollution, clean and well-organized amenities which can be able to
enhance students learning process without any hindrances from its
environment.
3. What kind of the classroom is conductive to learning?

- A classroom that is conducive to learning must be clean, free

from pollution, properly ventilated and has a complete facility for the
ease of students, all other facilities that will greatly contribute for the
attainment of knowledge of the students and most especially an expert
teacher by profession and by heart.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

- If my aspiration in life to become a teacher someday will be

granted, I will do the same and change everything that someday
would sum up my classroom into better situation. I will be one to
facilitate in structuring my classroom and letting my students to learn
well and I will put my classroom with complete facilities so that they
may feel comfortable and may pay attention to the discussions.

5. Write your additional learning insights here.

- I learned that every student has their own reaction to the environment
they are in, that’s why the teachers should be complex and flexible to
know that. Learning can be motivated. Thus, the environment of
the school campus has an important role in motivating the students
learning. Then, it is my opinion to say that the learner’s environment can
affect the learner’s learning development

My Learning Portfolio

My Personal Illustration of an Effective

School Environment

The illustration above shows an example of a good learning

environment offering a safe platform for learners. Before you can expect
learners to succeed academically, they should also feel safe both mentally
and physically and in order to maintain a safe learning environment, learners
must feel supported, welcomed, and respected.
An effective school environment is an environment that is structurally
built in strong, clean external and in internal, free from noise of the outside
world so that the students will feel peaceful and concentrated. On the
classroom part, one that is conducive in learning is a classroom that has
many charts, posters, sayings and inspirational quotes as motivation and
additional information to children. The effective school must possess these
kinds of aspects. These involve stimulating and secure learning environment
on which the students are free from any harm of accident. Professional
leadership must also take place because the learners always depend to what
the teacher instructs. Focus on teaching and learning are some points that
should have to take into consideration, too. There should have a purposeful
teaching, shared vision and goals, high expectations of all learners,
accountability and learning communities. The school is a center of learning;
therefore, its safety standards should be tight to avoid accidents inside the
classroom and the campus itself. Every learner should be developed and
given equal attention during classes, and they are expected to follow
instructions from their teachers. A school should be well organized to attract
learners to focus more on studies.
