famous car manufacturing industry in the world. During your interview you are
asked to answer the following questions.
Questions:

1. Which of these two logos do you think is best fit to represent the company?
2. Why did you choose this logo for the company?
3. As a draftsman what new technology will you use to draw this logo?

Software and Hardware

Computers have two main parts: hardware and software; Like piano (hardware) and
music (software)

Computer Software
Is a generic term used to describe computer programs that run on PCs, mobile
phones, tablets, or other smart devices. Software is often used to describe all the
functional aspects of a computer that do not refer to its physical components.
Software can be categorized into two main groups: operating system software and
application software.

Computer program
It is usually written by a computer programmer in a programming language. From
the program in its human-readable form of source code, a compiler or assembler
can derive machine code. A form consisting of instructions that the computer can
directly execute.

Operating System Software VS Application software

Operating System Software

These are software that control how the computer system works & enable the user
to access the system hardware and application software. Common operating
system are Windows Vista, Apple Macintosh, Mac OS X, OS/2, UNIX, and Linux.
Application Software
These are also called programs, that have a specific use or task to perform such as
AutoCAD for Architectural drawings and layouts, MS office for business and
marketing, Adobe Photoshop for image processing, and so on.

7
What is CAD Software?
It is a computer application software use by architects, engineers, drafter, designer
and other to create precision drawings or technical illustrations.

The first CAD systems served as mere replacements of drawing boards. Computer-
aided design (CAD) is the use of computers (or workstations) to aid in the creation,
modification, analysis, or optimization of a design

CAD software is often used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the
quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a
database for manufacturing

A brief history of CAD Software

The beginnings of CAD can be traced to the year 1957, when Dr. Patrick J.
Hanratty developed PRONTO, the first commercial numerical-control programming
system.

Dr. Patrick J. Hanratty  was an American computer scientist and businessperson,

known as the "Father of CAD/CAM" computer-aided design and computer-aided
manufacturing.

8
What is the difference between CAD and AutoCAD?
CAD describes as using computer software developed by Autodesk to create
technical drawings, whereas

AutoCAD is a specific type of professional CAD application software that can create

both 2D and 3D drawings and models.

3D

2D
AutoCAD is a (CAD)
Computer Aided Design programs are developed and sold by Autodesk. Autodesk
builds CAD software that helps people imagine, design, and create a better world.

AutoCAD was one of the first CAD programs to run on personal computers. Its first
version 1.0 was released on December 1982.

AutoCAD is the industry leader in CAD packages. Used by some of the following
disciplines:

 Civil Engineers
 Mechanical Engineers
 Electrical Engineers

9
 Piping Engineers
 Aeronautical Engineers
 Architects
 Drafters
 Interior Designer

Computer Hardware
It refers to the physical elements of a
computer. Also referred to as the
machinery or the equipment of the
computer. Hardware are also classified as
storage device, input device and output
device.

Storage Device
It is any computing hardware that is used for storing, porting and extracting data
files and objects. It can hold and store information both temporarily and
permanently, and can be internal or external to a computer, server or any similar
computing device. Some of the example of internal storage are System unit, CPU,
RAM, internal hard disk. Some of the example for external storage device are
external hard Disk, USB flash drive, and CDs.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

A storage device also called central processor or main processor. It is the brain of
the computer where most of the “computing” takes place. The CPU contains the
intelligence of the machine. It performs all instructions and calculations that are
needed to manage the flow of information.

Random Access Memory

It is an internal storage device alternatively referred to as main memory, primary
memory, or system memory, RAM (random-access memory) is a hardware
device that allows information to be stored and retrieved on a computer.

Hard Disk
It is usually the most substantial, data storage hardware device in a computer. The
hard disk can hold information forever with or without electricity. Most modern
hard disks have tens of billions of bytes of storage space on them in which means
that you can create, save, and download files for months or years without using up
all the storage space it provides.

10
Peripheral or Peripheral device
The term peripheral is used to describe those devices that are optional in nature.
There are all different kinds of peripherals you can add to your computer. The main
distinction among peripherals is the way they are connected to your computer.
They can be connected internally or externally.

It is ancillary device used to put information into and get information out of

the computer. Several categories of peripheral devices may be identified, based on
their relationship with the computer. These are Input device and Output device

CAD Input devices

These are input devices that send data or instructions to the computer, such as
a mouse, keyboard, digital/graphics tablet, image scanner, and digital camera.

Mouse
Is a small hand-held device used to control the
cursor/crosshair on the screen. They can be used to select
an item by pointing to it and clicking a button.

Computer Keyboard
It is one of the primary input device defined as the set of
typewriter-like keys that enables you to enter data into a
computer or other devices.

2D Scanner
It is an input device that scans documents such as
photographs and pages of text. When a document is
scanned, it is converted into a digital format. This creates an
electronic version of the document that can be viewed and
edited on a computer.

11
3d Scanner
It is a device that analyzes a real-world object or environment
to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance.

Digitizer Tablet
It is a graphics drawing tablet used for sketching ne w images
or tracing old ones. It is also called a "graphics tablet," where
the user writes or draws on the surface of the device with a
wired or wireless pen or puck. Often, mistakenly called a
mouse, the puck is officially the "tablet cursor."

CAD Output devices

These are output devices return processed data or provide output back to the user,
such as computer monitor, printer and plotter.

Computer monitor
It is an output device that displays information in pictorial
form.

Printer
It is a peripheral device which makes a persistent
representation of drawing graphics or text, usually on paper

3D Printer
It is an output devices that produce three-dimensional object
from a CAD model or a digital 3D model, with material being
added together (such as liquid molecules or powder grains
being fused together), typically layer by layer.

Plotter
It is a computer hardware device or a peripheral device much
like a printer that is used for printing vector graphics. An
output device that enable to produce better quality and large
format drawings.
