q4 TVL Eim 12 Week 1

The document discusses performing roughing-in activities for communication and distribution systems using electrical metallic conduit (EMC). It covers PEC provisions on EMC, including that EMC may be used for exposed and concealed work under the same conditions as rigid metal conduit. The document provides learning tasks on identifying EMC terms, materials and tools, the different types of bends used in EMC installation, and the proper procedure for bending EMC. It aims to teach learners to properly install EMC according to PEC and NEC requirements.

IV. LEARNING PHASES AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES

I. Introduction (Time Frame: ________)
PEC PROVISION ON ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING

A rigid metal conduit is a type of wiring installation which is designed to lessen or eliminate fire hazard and electrical
accident. The following rules and regulations on the use of electrical metallic tubing should be observed:

Electrical metallic tubing may be used for exposed and concealed work at the same condition with rigid metal conduit.
EMT protected with enamel should not be used on the following conditions:

a. subjected to mechanical during or after the construction

b. cinder fill
c. hazardous location
d. exposure to corrosive fumes and vapor
Electrical metallic tubing has smooth surface inside diameter. Its standard length follows the gas pipe which is 10 ft. and a
diameter from ½ inch, ¾ inch up to 6 inches.
Electrical metallic tubing can be used provided the water is prevented in entering the conduit. The support, straps and
other fitting must be approved for the purpose.

There are three basic bends that are commonly used: the 90° bend, the common offset and the saddle. Each bending
style has proper procedure to follow. There must be an accurate measuring to achieve a good metal bending.
For connecting metal raceways, we intend to use appropriate fittings to make the harness of each tubing fitly joint.
In installation of metal raceway the size of the metallic tubing has each proper size of wire that will be inserted inside the
tubing.
Learning Task 3
A. Identify the following statement. Write your answers on your answer sheet or work sheet notebook.

________________________1. It is a kind of bend to cross a small destruction that would prevent the electrician.
________________________2. Bends are used to move a run of conduit from one plane to another.
________________________3. Bends are classified as 90 degrees or 45 degrees.
________________________4. A thin-walled metal raceway having a circular cross section.
________________________5. Also known as electrical fittings, used to connect runs conduit together.

One of the problems that both commercial and industrial fields face today is that few electricians don't know how to
bend EMT conduit with a hand bender. This is one of the primary skills necessary to acquire but for new electricians this is the
most troubling stage. Learning how to bend conduit is an early task for the beginning electrician in both the commercial and
industrial fields.
Proper procedure must take place when doing the bending of EMT. This may help certain electricians to do their job
properly and to avoid hazards. The following picture may help to understand the step-by-step procedure.

Learning Task 4
Arrange the proper procedure on elbow bending of metallic tubing from 1-9. Write your answers on your answer sheet
or work sheet notebook.
_________________A. Mark of the center of the location of the bend.
_________________B. Remove the bender on the right angle bent EMT.
_________________C. Draw a right angle bend on the floor using the try square.
_________________D. Insert the EMT into the conduit bender/hickey where the center of the bend is to be made.
_________________E. Prepare the necessary tools, materials and equipment.
_________________F. Bend the EMT gradually to form a 90 bend. Check the desired shape by placing the conduit on the
layout.
_________________G. Draw an arc near the corner.
_________________H. Observe good housekeeping.
_________________I. Wear the appropriate PPE
