1.0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this plan is to describe the policy and arrangements to ensure the employee welfare and
health during the months Ramadan, on JAPAN PAVILION EXPO 2020 project sites in accordance to the
Ministerial Resolution (401) of 2015. The Holy Month of Ramadhan continues within management of
Ramadan session is addressed within this plan.
2.0 SCOPE
This plan is applicable to ECG employees working at its project sites at JAPAN PAVILION EXPO. Jebel Ali
(DUBAL).

2.1.1 EHS department - EHS department shall:

2.1.1.1 Closely monitor the daily weather.


2.1.1.2 Monitor the implementation of site acclimatization program for employees
who has returned from vacation or medical leave.
2.1.1.3 Carry out daily inspections of the water filling, disinfecting and distribution
activity.
2.1.1.4 Coordinate the emergency evacuation in the event of a heat illness case.
2.1.1.5 Report all heat illness case to the employer.
2.1.2 Maintenance department –

2.1.2.1 Maintenance department shall regularly check the water coolers, ice making
machines and the air conditioners.

2.1.3 Project Management –

2.1.3.1 Project Management shall ensure implementation of this summer


management plan and shall inform all main-contractor, and sub-contractors
to follow this plan.

3.0 RAMADAN MANAGEMENT ARRANGEMENTS


3.1 Ramadan is the 9th month of the Arabic calendar wherein Muslims fast during the daytime of the
month from dawn to dusk. The normal working hours in Ramadan has been defined by the Ministry
of Labour as 6 hours for both fasting and non-fasting employees. Hours above six is considered as
overtime hours in this month. In addition, certain restrictions are placed on open eating and
drinking during Ramadan. Everyone is expected to follow an acceptable etiquette that respects the
sanctity of the Ramadan in accordance to the UAE laws, tradition and culture.
3.2 Ramadan is expected to tentatively start on April 24, 2020 until May 23, 2020 (both dates are
subject to moon sighting). The proposed work time during Ramadan is given in Appendix A.
3.3 The working hours for fasting employees are limited to 6 hours. Anyone volunteering to work
additional hours shall request permission from their supervisor and shall be permitted to work only
under proper supervision and for a maximum of 2 hours.
3.4 Fasting employees who feel fatigued shall be permitted to take adequate rest break.
3.5 Adequate awareness program to be launched to educate the fasting employees on how to prevent
heat illness while fasting. This shall be covered during the heat stress prevention training and
toolbox sessions.
3.6 The Ramadan work arrangements and the etiquettes to follow during Ramadan shall be adequately
explained to the workforce through the site orientations and weekly toolbox talks.
