Arjuna's Devotion and Krishna's Protection

Arjuna promises to behead Aśvatthāmā and wipe Draupadī's tears with his head after he kills her sons. Aśvatthāmā launches a brahmāstra weapon to save himself from Arjuna's arrows. Facing danger, Arjuna calls out to Krishna for protection, addressing him as "Krishna Krishna Maha-baho." Arjuna is aware of Krishna's transcendental qualities as the cause of fearlessness for devotees and the path of liberation from material existence.

SB 1.

7 - The Son of Droṇa - got Punished

Draupadī, after hearing of the death of her sons by Aśvatthāmā, began to cry in distress with eyes full of tears.
Trying to pacify her in her great loss, Arjuna spoke to her
O gentle lady, when I present you with the head of that brahmana Asvatthama , after beheading him with arrows
from my Gāṇḍīva , I shall then wipe the tears from your eyes and pacify you. Then, after burning your sons’ bodies,
you can take your bath standing on his head. Thus, Arjuna attack Ashwatthama
In order to save his life from arrows of Arjuna, Aśvatthāmā launch brahmāstra [nuclear weapon]. :
Thereupon a glaring light spread in all directions. It was so intense that Arjuna thought his own life in danger, and so
he began to address Lord Kṛṣṇa.

ŚB 1.7.22

arjuna uvāca
kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa mahā-bāho
bhaktānām abhayaṅkara
त्वमेको dahya-मानानाम
apavargo ’si saṁsṛteḥ

Translation
Arjuna said: O my Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, you are the almighty Personality of Godhead. There is no limit to Your different
energies. Therefore, only You are competent to in-still fearlessness in the hearts of Your devotees. Everyone in the
flames of material miseries can find the path of liberation in You only.

Purport
 Arjuna was aware of the transcendental qualities of Lord Sir Kṛṣṇa, as he had already experienced them
during the Kurukshetra War, in which both were present. Kṛṣṇa is almighty and is especially the cause of
fearlessness for the devotees. A devotee of the Lord is always fearless because of the protection given by
the Lord.

 Material existence is something like a blazing fire in the forest, which can be extinguished by the mercy of
the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

 The spiritual master is the mercy representative of the Lord. Therefore, a person burning in the flames of
material existence may receive the rains of mercy of the Lord through the transparent medium of the self-
realized spiritual master.

 The spiritual master, by his words, can penetrate the heart of the suffering person and inject knowledge
transcendental, which alone can extinguish the fire of material existence
In this verse we can find, Arjuna was in danger situation and in order to take the shelter / protection he starts calling
for Krishna Krishna Maha Bhaga

We can see from stories of many devotes in the srimad Bhagavatam uses similar verse to address and offers prayers
Lord Krishna to take his shelter and protection

1.) After Kaliya episode, Vraj vasi where sleep at night and suddenly there was great fire - Vraj basi took shelter of
lord Krsna by calling Krsna krhsna maha bhaga – Krsna Krsna O Lord of all opulence
2.) During Govardhan Lila, Vraj Vasi took shelter of lord Hari to save their cows animals and their family by calling
krsna krsna maha bhaga - Krsna Krsna O Most fortunate one
3.) During Damodar Lila Nalakūvara and Maṇigrīva after taking darshan of lord krishna they said …..
kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa mahā-yogiṁs O Krsna Krsna, master of mystic
4.) While playing in Vrindavan forest along with cowherd boy , suddenly forest-fire took place . All the cowherd
boys started calling Krishna Krsna Krsna Maha Vira (O Krsna Krsna most powerful one) Finally Krishna Swallow
the Forest Fire and save cowherd boys
5.) After Govardhan Lila, Lord Indra and Mother Surabhi Offer Prayers. Mother Surabhi offers prayers to lord ---
Krishna Krishna Maha Yogim O Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa, greatest of all mystics!
6.) When Akura met Mother Kunti at Hastinapur – that time mother Kunti offer prayers to lord krishna Krsna krsna
maha yogi (O lord Krsna you are the greatest Yogi) please give your shelter
7.) In the clutches of the snake, Nanda Maharaja cried out, “Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa, maha ayam ( my dear boy! Krishna )
This huge serpent is swallowing me! Please save me, I’m surrendered to You!”
-

All these devotes have faith, conviction and confidence in Krishna, that Krishna will protect us and provide the
required shelter, and all these devotes are completely surrender towards lord krishna

Here it is very important to under the characteristics of surrendered devotees and apply these learning in
our life.

In CC M Lila 22 100 we can read 6 characteristics of fully surrendered devotee

(1) The devotee must accept everything that is favorable for the rendering of transcendental loving
service to the Lord.

(2) He must reject everything unfavorable to the Lord’s service. This is also called renunciation.

(3) A devotee must be firmly convinced that Kṛṣṇa will give him protection and always ready to serve
lord. In this way, Kṛṣṇa is merciful to His devotee and gives him all protection from the dangers found
on the path of devotional service.
(4) The devotee should accept Kṛṣṇa as his supreme maintainer and master. He should not think that he
is being protected by a demigod. He should depend only on Kṛṣṇa, considering Him the only
protector. The devotee must be firmly convinced that within the three worlds he has no protector or
maintainer other than Kṛṣṇa.

BG 9.22

Ananyāś-cintayanto-māṁ
ye-janāḥ-paryupāsate
teṣāṁ-nityābhiyuktānāṁ
yoga-kṣemaṁ-vahāmy-aham

But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form – to them I carry
what they lack, and I preserve what they have.

(5) Self-surrender means remembering that one’s activities and desires are not independent. The
devotee is completely dependent on Kṛṣṇa, and he acts and thinks as Kṛṣṇa desires.

6.) The devotee should be meek and humble. One should always think himself the poorest of the poor and feel
totally dependent on the mercy of Krishna. [quoted from Prabhupada’ s Narada-bhakti-sutra]

I like to explain point no. 6 –The devotee should be meek and humble

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu left only 8 slokas (verses) of his instructions in writing and where he describe the glories
of the Holy Names of the Lord and the mood one must have to chant and to be a sincere devotee.

Significance of Trinad>>api>>sunichena

In the 3rd Verse - Trinad>>api>>sunichena>>One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of
mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense
of false prestige, and should be ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy
name of the Lord .

This kind of mood and humble state of mind is very important to get the real taste of japa and it will also help to
avoid Vaishnava Aparadha.

Prabhupa mentioned in the purport in the Adi lila 17.31 - The grass is specifically mentioned in this verse because
everyone tramples upon it, yet the grass never protests. This example indicates that a spiritual master or leader
should not be proud of his position; being always humbler than an ordinary common man, he should go on
preaching the cult of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare hare, hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī, advises everyone to String this verse on the thread of the holy name and wear it on
your neck for continuous remembrance.

Example Antya Lila >>> how we can remain humble in every situation and avoid vaihnanva aparadha.

Madhavendra Puri had 2 disciples Isvaraha puri n Ramachandra puri

When Madhavendra Puri was at the last stage of his life, Madhavendra Puri was chanting the holy name of Krsna,
and sometimes he would cry, ‘O my Lord, I did not get shelter at Mathura.’

Isvara Puri, performed service to Madhavendra Puri, cleaning up his stool and urine with his own hand. Isvara Puri
was always chanting the holy name and pastimes of Lord Krsna for Madhavendra Puri to hear. In this way he helped
Madhavendra Puri remember the holy name and pastimes of Lord Krsna at the time of death. “Pleased with Isvara
Puri, Madhavendra Puri embraced him and gave him the benediction that he would be a great devotee and lover of
Krsna. Because of his spiritual master blessings, Isvara Puri also blessed to have disciple like Chaintain
Mahaprabhu.

Where as Rāmacandra Purī was another disciple of Mādhavendra Purī, he was influenced by dry Māyāvādīs, and
therefore he criticized Mādhavendra Purī. Therefore, Mādhavendra Purī accused him of being an offender (he
committed vaishano apararadh) and rejected him. Which result in his spiritual fall down.

With this story it is very clear by the mercy of the spiritual master one receives the benediction of Krishna (Vaishvo
or Guru seva ) and without the grace of the spiritual master—if one displeases the spiritual master ( Vaishnava
Aparadha ) —one cannot make any advancement and finally fall down from his spiritual position

later Ramachandra Puri became so fallen that he began criticizing Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu for His eating.

Once Ramachandra puri enter the Gambira and found few ants on the floor and he spread rumours about
chaintainyan mahaprabhu eating sugar candies - ( renounced sannyāsī is attached to such sense gratification! )

After hearing this criticism, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was doubtful and apprehensive and started eating one-fourth
of a pot of Lord Jagannātha’s prasādam and few vegetables .

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was in the humble state of mind and replied to Ramachadra Puri , “I am just like an
ignorant boy and am like your disciple. It is My great fortune that you are instructing Me.”

We should learn from this example how chaitainyan mahaprabhu took this criticism in positive
way and handle this situation in humble state of mind and avoid any kind of Vaishnava paratha .

Practically it’s very difficult ……This is test of our sadhana and spiritual understanding …if we
can overcome 3 gateway of hell i.e Lust Anger and greed then we are successful in performing
our devotional service.

As said by prabhu-pad – KC process is simple but not easy …Process is simple, but its
application is difficult. (With our daily sadhana and by reading prabhupada books and with
devotes associated we can apply these learning in our life and enhance our spiritual life)

In the Age of Kali, we should not under-estimate the power of Maya ……

In Dhawpar Yuga >> Parikshit Maharaj was attract by Asvattama and survived the attact of
brahmastra (nuclear weapon ) but in the Kali yuga he made mistake because of Kali yuga effects
—Out of anger he puts a dead snake around the neck of Semeeka rashi to insult him and
finally got cursed by his son .
*** We need to respect devotes and avoid any kind of Vaishnava paratha and also show respect to
others ****

From above pastime we can learn …How we can completely surrender our-self to Krishna and
perform our bhakti yoga in humble state of mind.

Coming back to SB Canto 1 chapter 7 In the purport Prabhupada had mentioned There are various
senses, of which the ear is the most effective. The importance of hearing is mentioned here in connection
with attaining the highest perfection of life, namely getting free from three material pangs. Simply by hearing the
message of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam one gets attachment for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa which
would finally extinguish the fire of lamentation, illusion and fearfulness .
The ultimate result of devotional service is to develop genuine love for the Supreme Personality.
Loving devotional service to the Lord begins with hearing about the Lord. There is no difference
between the Lord and the subject matter heard about Him.
The conclusion is that simply by hearing the Vedic literature Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, one can have
direct connection with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and thereby one can
attain the highest perfection of life by transcending worldly miseries, illusion and fearfulness.
These are practical tests for one who has actually given a submissive hearing to the readings of
the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

In SB 7.4.25-26 – Lord Vishnu said Become My devotees by hearing and chanting about Me and
offering Me prayers, for these are certainly meant to award benedictions to all living entities.

In Purport Prabhupada mentioned - Performing kīrtana and hearing the vibration of the sound
Hare Kṛṣṇa is actually seeing the Supreme Personality of Godhead directly. One must realize this
position, and then one will be able to understand the absolute nature of the Lord’s activities.

SB 4.7.44 When King Dakṣa offered the clarified butter with Yajur Veda mantras in sanctified
meditation, Lord Viṣṇu appeared there in His original form as Nārāyaṇa. That time The
Vidyādharas ( are Wisdom Holder Demigods ) said: Dear Lord, this human form of body is
meant for attaining the highest perfectional objective, but, impelled by Your external energy, the
living entity misidentifies himself with his body and with the material energy, and therefore,
influenced by māyā, he wants to become happy by material enjoyment. He is misled and always
attracted by temporary, illusory happiness. But Your transcendental activities are so powerful
that if one engages in hearing and chanting such topics, he can be delivered from illusion.

ŚB 12.4.40 Sukadeva Goswami telling to Maharaja Parikshit - For a person who is

suffering in the fire of countless miseries and who desires to cross the ocean of material
existence, there is no suitable boat except that of cultivating devotion to the
transcendental taste for the narrations of the Supreme Personality of Godhead’s pastimes.
The fever of material existence can be removed only by the medicine of the holy name
and pastimes of the Supreme Lord, which are perfectly narrated in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
Example given by Prabhupada - As a snake-bitten man is brought back to consciousness by the
chanting of certain mantras, so one in the unconscious state of material life can be revived by
hearing the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra.

The cultivation of Krishna Consciousness is possible where great devotees live together and
constantly engage in hearing and chanting the glories of the Lord.

SB 2.1.5 – Purport Prabhupada mentioned - There are many classes of human beings: the
fruitive workers, the philosophers, the mystic yogīs and, ultimately, the unalloyed
devotees.Everyone wants to be free from all kinds of fear, and everyone wants happiness in life.
The perfect process for achieving this, here and now, is recommended in the Śrīmad-
Bhāgavatam, which is uttered by such a great authority as Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī. By hearing
about and glorifying the Lord, all a person’s activities become molded into spiritual activities,
and thus all conceptions of material miseries become completely vanquished.

Bg. 18.58- If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditioned
life by My grace. If, however, you do not work in such consciousness but act through false ego,
not hearing Me, you will be lost.

Radha Nath Swami Quotes - Faith comes by hearing Krishna Katha in the association of sincere
devotees regularly.

Bliss in bhakti comes only when there is eagerness to hear God’s messages  and this eagerness
comes only when there is a sense of urgency.

Eagerness to hear is an essential quality for spiritual progress.

Just like we need food for the body, we need food for the soul and what is that food? Hearing and
chanting God’s names and his pastimes in the association of devotees.

Lokanath Swami quotes

Deities Darshan should be taken not with the eyes but with the help of ears as "Darshan through Hearing"
makes one fearless.

SB 3.9.11 O my Lord, Your devotees can see You through the

ears by the process of bona fide hearing, and thus their hearts
become cleansed, and You take Your seat there. You are so
merciful to Your devotees that You manifest Yourself in the
particular eternal form of transcendence in which they always
think of You.
As long as we chant and hear Krishna katha, we are not affected by the Kaal (Time). Hearing is not
the end, it is just the beginning.

Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura

Prema (Divine Love), the fruit of the creeper of Bhakti, grows on the creeper only when she attains
to the Feet of Krishna. All this time the gardener continues to splash the creeper with the water of
hearing and chanting the Holy Name of Krishna.

As per sastra (Srimad Bhagavatam) >> If we got the taste of hearing Hari Katha then we are most fortunate in this
entire world

Example from Antya Lila – Prad-yum-na Miśra, a resident of Śrīhaṭṭa, came to see Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to hear
from Him about Lord Kṛṣṇa and His pastimes ( Antya Lilla )

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu replied,

CC Antya 5.9

kṛṣṇa-kathāya-ruci-tomāra-baḍa-bhāgyavān
yāra kṛṣṇa-kathāya ruci, sei bhāgyavān

“I see that you have acquired a taste for hearing talks regarding Kṛṣṇa. Therefore you are extremely
fortunate. Not only you but anyone who has awakened such a taste is considered most fortunate.

CC Madhya 8.258 ( Talks Between Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and Rāmānanda Rāya )

rasa-jnaña-kāka-cūṣe-jñāna-nimba-phale
rasa-jña-kokila-khāya premā- ama-mukule

Rāmānanda Rāya continued, “Those who are devoid of all transcendental mellows are like the crows that
suck the juice from the bitter fruits of the nimba tree of knowledge, whereas those who enjoy mellows are
like the cuckoos who eat the buds of the mango tree of love of Godhead.” The unfortunate philosophers
taste the dry process of philosophical knowledge, whereas the devotees regularly drink the nectar of love of
Kṛṣṇa. Therefore, they are the most fortunate of all.”

Hearing about Hari, gradually increase our faith and faith increase with our own experience…… with our
own realization we can conclude …In past krishna had made all the necessary arrangement so that we can
cultivate our spiritual life and in future also he going to provide required shelter and protection. That’s how
we get complete shelter and have full faith in surrender to the lotus feet of Hari.

Draupadi's vastra-haraṇa & Gajendra-mokṣaṇa

Both are helpless – completely surrendered to Krishna. In both cases Krishna appeared and provide the
required shelter
Krishna is always there with his devotes …. sometimes he is physically present and sometimes he is
present as Vani ( Krishna Instructions )

In our current situation – everyone is struggling because of corona virus ……….

With the help of BG learnings and Srimad Bhagawat stories we can understand – how to take shelter of
krishna and what all things we can do to control our mind and took advantage to cultivate our spiritual life.
During Govardhan Lila – Vraj vasi took the shelter of krishna and got the opportunity to be with Krishna
for 7 day and 7 night. ( We can consider this as Frist historical lockdown event …Which is also recorded in
srimad Bhagwatam . officially )

Similarly during this lockdown period we can associated with krishna by doing Japa, hearing srimad
Bhagwat from devotees and reading prabhudapa books and hear srimad bhagawatam lectues.

In future, Devotees will remember covid 19 as period where we all cultivate our spiritual life using
technology. For non-devotes it’s time for social distancing but for Krishna devotees it’s time for spiritual
connectivity.

Srimati Kunti Maharani said - I wish that all those calamities would happen again and again so that we
could see You again and again, for seeing You means that we will no longer see repeated births and deaths.

In Any situation we have decide>>> whether to Hold on or to take action

Here question is >>>How to decide and take right decision ……..

BG Chapter 4
Karma – All our activities which result in karmic reactions
Vkarma - impious work
Akarma – devotional service

BG 4.18 >> One who sees inaction in action and action in inaction is intelligent among men, and he is in
the transcendental position, although engaged in all sorts of activities.

Weather to hold on or take required action depends particular situation , because all situation are different
and our decision should be based upon sastra and our guru instructions so that we don’t get any karmic
reactions and One should faithfully follow Krsna’ s instructions to become free from sinful reactions and
advance on the path of self-realization.

Arjun example – BG – In the beginning of Kurukshetra war Arjuna was lamenting and lost his confidence
to fight the battle but after hearing lord Krishna instructions he became self-realized and decided to fight
this battle and became victorious. ( In this situation Arjuna sees action …..in Action ) which makes his
decision as Akarma .

Same Arjuna acted differently in another situation

We all know after the Mahabharat war ……

Arjuna defeated by robbers and ordinary cowherd men and could not provide protection to the wives of
Krishna.
In this situation Arjuna decided to leave this material world and give his entire kingdom to his grandson
Parishthik Maharaj. Arjuna was self-realized soul he understands and have better understanding for this
current situation. In the absence of Krishna and ending of Dawpara Yuga .it is the right time to leave this
world (In this situation Arjuna sees in-action in Action) which result his decision as Akarma .

We can learn from Arjuna, it is very important to apply spiritual knowledge and take decisions so that we move
closer to Krishna and enhance our spiritual life

Application part - Applying the KC knowledge or instruction in our life is very important for our spiritual growth.

Roles of spiritual master is very important. Spiritual master is mercy representative of Krishna as
mentioned in the Above Purport SB 1.7.22

ŚB 11.20.17 Example BOAT BREEZE and Ocean

The human body, which can award all benefit in life, is automatically obtained by the laws of nature,
although it is a very rare achievement. This human body can be compared to a perfectly constructed boat
having the spiritual master as the captain and the instructions of the Personality of Godhead as favorable
winds impelling it on its course. Considering all these advantages, a human being who does not utilize his
human life to cross the ocean of material existence must be considered the killer of his own soul.

Human body – Boat

Spiritual Master – as Captain
Instruction of the personability of godhead – as Favorable winds
We should not our waste time in mundane activities /conversations and we should utilize every minute of
our life doing Bhakti Yoga and remembering Krishna then only we make our life successfully.

Coming to the Final Part of our discussion - Compassion and helping others

 Once we are start doing bhakti yoga and getting its benefits – then we should show
compassion and help others by spreading the teaching of Chaitanya maha-prabhu

Prabhupada mentioned in the purport --- There are two narrative books which especially concern the words
and activities of Kṛṣṇa: Bhagavad-gītā is the instruction given by Kṛṣṇa, and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the
book containing topics about Kṛṣṇa and His devotees. These two books are the special nectar of the words
of Kṛṣṇa. For those who engage in the preaching of these two Vedic literatures it is very easy to get out of
the illusory conditional life imposed upon us by Maya.

BG - 7.16 >> 4 kind of persons worship me ( Those in distress , seekers of knowledge , wealth and man
with wisdom . Right now, everyone is suffering from danger/fear of corono virus >> Many of our friends,
relative ,family members are in the distress situation >> in such situation we can help them by providing
right information and uplift their spiritual life by Introducing them to science of devotional services.

In BG -3 Chapter it is mentioned - Although self-realized souls have no duty, yet they work to show an
example to the world. Even Lord Krsna and Janak Maharaj acts to set the standards that the whole world
will follow. From this example we can see even Krishna ji and Janak Maharaj spreading the message to
Gita to others in same way as Krishna’s devotees we should also help other and spread teaching of KC to
others
Bg. 18.68- For one who explains this supreme secret to the devotees, pure devotional service is guaranteed,
and at the end he will come back to Me.

Article written by satsva-rupa-dasa-goswami an essential part of the Vedic teachings is that

one should first perfect his own life, and then try to teach others how to perfect their lives. In that way one
most quickly attains Krishna’s recognition, and he performs the greatest wel-fare work for humanity.
Teaching people to become devotees of God is far more beneficial than any mundane altruism in the form
of food, shelter, hospital care or materialistic education. Environmental Ecomonical Financial and
policaitcal issues

Prabhupada in one of his letter mentioned - Book distribution is also chanting. These books I have
recorded and chanted, and they are trans-cribed. It is spoken kirtanas. So, book distribution is also chanting.
These are not ordinary books. It is recorded chanting. Anyone who reads, he is hearing. Book distribution
must not be neglected.

SB 4.7.44 …. Prabhupada mentioned in the Purport >> Lord Caitanya advised

everyone to spread the word of Kṛṣṇa. He advised, “All of you become spiritual
masters. Your duty is simply to talk to whomever you meet of Kṛṣṇa or of the
instructions given by Kṛṣṇa.” The International Society for Krishna Consciousness is
operating for this purpose. we invite everyone to come with us and simply chant
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma
Rāma, Hare Hare, because we know that if one simply chants and hears the topics
of Kṛṣṇa, one’s life will change; he will see a new light, and his life will be successful.

Now I like to Conclude all these important points –

1.) In every situation of our life we should remember Krishna, his instructions and take his shelter
2.) We have discussed about power of hearing Krishna Katha and chanting maha mantra and avoiding
Vaishnava Aparadh for our spiritual growth
3.) How we can apply learnings of srimad Bhagwat am and instruction of Bhagwat gita & spiritual master in
our daily life
4.) We need to share and spread the KC knowledge with others this our real business.

I would also like to offer my obeisance to Nitya Guar Chandra by sharing beautiful song by

Saarva-bhum Bhattacharya ….he has written this song “Nava Gaura Varam”. The official name of this song is Sri
Sri Saci-sut-astakam. In this song, Saarva-bhum Bhattacharya glorifies Lord Gaura, the beautiful son of Mother
Saci.

His complexion is the hue of fresh cream tinged with kunkum. He is the ever-fresh Cupid who shoots
arrows of newly blossoming flowers. He bears newer and newer moods of emotional ecstasies. He
is fond of performing novel dances. He makes new jokes that cause much laughter. His luster is like

Simply by giving aural reception to this Vedic literature, the feeling for loving devotional service to Lord
Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, sprouts up at once to extinguish the fire of lamentation,
illusion and fearfulness.

CC Madhya lila 22.62

‘śraddhā’-śabde — viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya
kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya

“Śraddhā is confident, firm faith that by rendering transcendental loving service to Kṛṣṇa one automatically
performs all subsidiary activities. Such faith is favorable to the discharge of devotional service.

Firm faith and confidence are called śraddhā. When one engages in the Lord’s devotional service, he is to
be understood to have performed all his responsibilities in the material world. He has satisfied his
forefathers, ordinary living entities, and demigods and is free from all responsibility. Such a person does
not need to meet his responsibilities separately. It is automatically done. Fruitive activity (karma) is meant
to satisfy the senses of the conditioned soul. However, when one awakens to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he does
not have to work separately for pious activity. The best achievement of all fruitive activity is detachment
from material life, and this detachment is enjoyed by the devotee firmly engaged in the Lord’s service.

Here is Rupa Gosvami's delineation of how faith develops in Krishna consciousness:

"In the beginning one must have a preliminary desire for self-realization. This will bring one to the stage of
trying to associate with persons who are spiritually elevated. In the next stage one becomes initiated by an
elevated spiritual master, and under his instruction the neophyte devotee begins the process of devotional
service. By execution of devotional service under the guidance of the spiritual master, one becomes free
from all material attachment, attains steadiness in self-realization, and acquires a taste for hearing about the
Absolute Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna. This taste leads one further forward to attachment for
Krishna consciousness, which is matured in bhava, or the preliminary stage of transcendental love of God.
Real love for God is called prema, the highest perfectional stage of life."

In the prema stage there is constant

Prabhupada comments on this verse in Bhagavad-gita 4.10.
engagement in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. So, by the slow process
of devotional service, under the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master, one can
attain the highest stage, being freed from all material attachment, from the
