SPEAKERS
YBhg. Dato’ Dr Ir. Haji Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah is the Deputy Chairman of the Vibration
Committee of the Institute of Materials Malaysia. In his personal capacity, he is the Group President and
Chief Executive Officer of Serba Dinamik Sdn Bhd. He graduated with Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and later on obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship
from Golden State University. He has more than 27 years of hands-on experience in managing,
supervising, lecturing and carrying out various tasks related to turbomachinery maintenance nationwide
and internationally. He was involved in the field management and supervision for overhauling of steam
turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors and pumps of various brands and was responsible for the
project control function in the planning and scheduling to maintain the planned work and production
schedule. He also analysed schedule impacts resulting from design alternatives, field change and site
condition encountered and revised the project schedule if needed. Currently, he is in charge of planning,
recruiting and managing human resources for various plant shutdown and maintenance works while
representing the group of companies in corporate management, construction and fabrication projects.

Dr. Rahizar Ramli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of
Engineering, University of Malaya. He received his Bachelor of Science (Mechanical) from the University
of Hartford, U.S.A. in 1992. Since then, he worked as a Technical Service engineer in the area of vibration,
and condition monitoring. He was awarded with Masters (M.Eng.Sc.) degree from the University of Malaya
in 1999 for his research in Structure-borne Noise in Passenger vehicle. In 2007, he obtained his Ph.D at
the University of Leeds, UK specialising in computational mechanics involving vehicle dynamics,
semi-active control systems, and durability analysis for vehicle suspension systems. He has more than 23
years of experience in the areas of vibration, dynamics and acoustics. This includes implementing
Vibration Condition Monitoring programs for many processing plants, power plants, and oil and gas
industries throughout South East Asia. He has numerous experiences in machinery diagnostics using
vibration analysis and structural dynamics for various industrial applications apart from occasionally
conducting training on vibration analysis for engineers and technicians. He is currently the Lead Trainer for
Vibration Practitioner / Specialist Certification Programmes Based on ISO 18436 (Level 1 to 4).

Dr. Ong Zhi Chao is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering,
University of Malaya. His expertise includes vibration, modal analysis, virtual instrumentation and signal
processing. He is active in research and developed a new vibration testing technique named as
Impact-Synchronous Modal Analysis (ISMA) which has been implemented in teaching, research and real
industrial cases. For the past 8 years, he was involved in numerous industrial projects on machinery
vibration at both on-shore and off-shore petrochemical and oil and gas processing plants in Malaysia. He
also has experiences in conducting machinery vibration training courses for engineers and technicians
from oil and gas industry.
