6a Description current situation
Within our system we have implemented in the BSS only the possibility of DUALBAND,
as follows:
- GSM900 / DCS1800
- GSM900 / PCS1900
- GSM850 / PCS1900
- GSM850 / DCS1800
With this situation, it’s not possible neither to implement the dualband GSM850/900 nor
GSM 850/900/1800.
6b1 List of requirements
The BSC should support Triband(and the handovers from band to band).
Adapt the SW of BSS and OSS (RC and OTS) in a way that the 3-band operation are
recognized as permitted mode of operation and can be configured.
modify the BCCH in a way that frequencies of all 3 bands(850/900/1800) can be
broadcasted as neighbors, that we do the handover related evaluations for all 3
bands, Common BCCH with the BCCH in DCS1800(or in 900 according to the site
configuration).

The customer TIM Brasil owns some bandwith in the 850 band, because of their old
TDMA network. They strongly require the development of this feature, in order to use
their frequency bands in a more efficient way.

Siemens can lose an expected business opportunity and there is a threat to destroy the
good relations to the customer.
