I. Analysis of the literary pieces.
Gabu by Carlos Angeles
The meaning of Gabu is a submission from Georgia, U.S. says the name Gabu
means "Wolf" and is of Japanese origin. According to a user from Philippines, the
name Gabu means “The battering restlessness of the sea”. “Gabu” is an existent
topographic point along the coastline of Ilocos Norte. located in the northern parts of the
Philippines. The first stanza is approximately about “battering restlessness of the sea”.
The sea is about being peaceful were we always love to read book. "A "wasteland" was
talked about by the character. It most likely refers to a foul sea. Perhaps the shore that the
character talks of in this verse form is not anything that resembles beautiful beaches such
as Boracay. In the second stanza the sea is ferocious always. As its "bashes" "brutally"
for a day long Black Marias. It is represented once again as a sock against the seascape. It
explains the division of rock-stones because of the sea's ceaseless destruction. The
character here paints a picture of the interrupting stones. Falling apart as the sea
constantly hits them with monolithic amounts of force. The 3rd stanza provides words
such as “grey”. “dead”. and “neutral”. These words represent imaginations of the shore
that has lost its past impressiveness. Negotiations about the influence of the sea to tear
away the things we love the most. This brings us the paradox of losing everything we
love. All that was most cherished and beloved of all time has been and will be taken away
by the harrying sea.
Blue blood of the big Astana by Ibrahim A. Jubaira
Ibrahim Jubaira's Blue Blood of the Major Astana is a tale of an orphaned man named
Jafaar with an aharelip, reminiscent of his love and memories with Dayang-dayang, their
Datu's daughter. It all began in Big Astana, or Datu's house, where he had heserved since
he was five years old and had met a woman he loved for the rest of his life. As they got
older, the passion for Jafaar grew stronger. A disagreement, however, emerged when a
young blue-blooded Datu asked for Dayang-hand dayang's in marriage, and since he was
not on the same blood, Jafaarcould not fight for his feelings.
Characters of the story: Jaafar- poor and had to work as a servant. He is in love with
Datu’s daughter named Dayang-Dayang. Dayang-Dayang- daughter of Datu. She is a
blue blood or royal blood. Babo- aunt of Jaafar. Took care of Jaafar when he was young.
Muramuraan- a rich young Datu in Bonbon and he is married to Dayang-Dayang. Appah-
father of Dayang-Dayang. Amboh- mother of Dayang-Dayang.
The God Stealer by Francisco Sionil Jose
"The God Stealer" is Filipino National Artist F. Sionil José's short story. It is José's most
anthologized fictional work. It is not only a story of an Ifugao stealing a holy idol, but
also of the relationship between a Filipino and an American, a reflection of the
relationship between the "colonized" and the "colonizer". As the most frequently
translated author from the Philippines, F. The legacy of Sionil José rests primarily on his
epic fiction, the Rosales novels, spanning four generations and spanning a hundred years
of Philippine history. However, his short stories are just as memorable for their unerring
representation of the Filipino situation. Philip Latak and Sam Cristie are the main
characters in "The God Stealer" Philip is an Ifugao, sometimes referred to as Ip-pig, who
became a Christian and lived in Manila. With his ethnic background, values, and
traditions, Philip became less sentimental when he became a city dweller. The word
Philippines derived its own name from it. On the other hand, Sam Christie was an
American who wanted to view the Mountain Province's rice terraces (also known as the
Cordilleras). He was interested in buying the original figurine of an Ifugao god as well.
His name was derived from a representation of the United States, Uncle Sam. The co-
workers were Philip and Sam. The moral lesson of the "God Stealer" story is to always
understand where you come from and respect it. Phillip's main character has become less
nostalgic as a price of living in the city of his past roots and his cultural identity.

Lundagin mo baby! (Go for it) by Gilda Cordero Fernando
There are some inspiring quotations when things get tough, which uplift the dampened
spirits. Not just another new colloquial word, "Lundagin Mo Baby" is an expression that
communicates encouragement. Only if you aim to leap for it will you reach new heights.
There is no right time to say it, but there are feelings of frustration and hopelessness at
their height at any moment. If any word suits it best, it would be this: "aim high."

Week 7-8
C. PRACTICE
1. Here are the major genres. Poetry is a type of literature focused on the interplay of words and
rhythm. Words are connected together in poetry to form sounds, pictures, and concepts that may
be too complicated or abstract to directly describe. Drama refers to written dialogue and stage
action performance. It's a literary genre that enables actors to directly act out the words of a
writer to an audience. Creative non fiction it focuses on story, which means that, much like
literature, it has a narrative plot with an inciting moment, rising action, climax and denouement.
Nonfiction, however, only works if the narrative is based on fact, a true retelling of the life
experiences of the author. Blog also known as weblog, is a type of website that is like a diary or
journal. In the form of categories and posts, blogs organize content. Bloggers a term for people
who write on blogs and also write about their views and thoughts. Text tula is a blend of the
English word "text" and the Filipino word "tula” Meaning text poem, it is a poem written in the
form of a text message and it is consisting of 7 syllables and it is sent as a direct communication
to a person close to the sender. Chick Literature it is genre fiction, consisting of heroine-centered
narratives that focus on their individual protagonists’ trials and tribulations. Flash Fiction it is a
fiction genre, described as a very short story. Although there is no fixed word count
distinguishing flash fiction from more traditional short stories, it may be as short as a few words
for flash fiction stories. Hyper Poetry is a form of digital poetry that uses links using hypertext
mark-up. It is a very visual form, and is related to hypertext fiction and visual arts. Six-word
story it is a short narrative that the entire story told in six words. Twitterature a literary use of
Twitter's microblogging site. It involves different genres that is written or collaboratively by
individuals.
2. Literary works contain numerous figures of speech that are used as literary devices. It means
that it is widely use and it is really important because these speech figures add importance to
literature and highlight the power and beauty of figurative expression. By using figures of
speech, it helps the learners to improve their understanding of the figurative aspect of the
language while also exposing them to the use and understanding of clichés and slangs.
3. Technology take over the literature by providing the capacity for anyone to write, through
social networks, feedback, and blogging, technology has changed the way we experience, read,
and even write literature, and it has been for the better. In a multitude of different ways,
technology has, and will continue to influence literature. In order to keep pace with the pressing
needs of the time, the literature adopted technological improvements. Since the development of
different writing techniques such as paper, ink, printing press, binding, distribution, literature has
changed.

Activity 2
I. Write a Blog.
Philippine literature has experienced cycles and periods and has grown over centuries.
Different genres emerged with each time that passed, and these literary works were
rooted from all regions representing their culture, society and lifestyle. The pre-
Spanish period, the Spanish period, and the Propaganda and Revolutionary Periods
consist of the early stages of Filipino Literature. Literature was in oral form in the
Pre-Spanish period, as printing technology was not yet available. Works like epics,
stories, myths, salawikain, bugtong, sawikain, songs like the Oyayi or Hele are passed
down from generations to generations, and as they are taught in schools, they are still
well-known to this day. During the Spanish Time, Philippine Literature changed. It
based on the faith of Christians. Pre-Spanish literary forms continued to develop;
however, there was a gradual change in focus from nature and natural phenomena to
the lives of the saints based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, hymns, miracles
and invocations.
A new wave of influencers has arrived on the scene now. Generation Z participants,
individuals born from 1995 to 2010, are true digital natives: they have been
introduced to the internet, social networks, and mobile systems from early childhood.
The next crop of young adults, Gen Z, ranges from early adolescents to the mid-20s.
And they differ markedly from millennials. They are more optimistic than
Millennials, they are much more individual, they are better able to multitask, and they
really feel the weight of becoming digital, globally linked people (both the good
aspects of that and the bad). For me, I think there’s a good thing about this idea but
we have to not only focus on it because it is not all about digital its about how we use
it and preserve our literature.
