1.3 Installation
Refer to Figure 6-1 in Section 6 and Figures 1-5
through 1-8 while following this procedure. OPEN
1.3.1 Preparation
1. Close the actuator. Refer to Figure 1-5.
2. Remove the two crank retainer lock nuts (item CLOSE
25), lock washers (item 26), and the crank re-
tainer (item 16) from the actuator assembly. Re-
move the crank shafts.

3. Back out the two locating pins (item 24) far enough
so as not to obstruct the inner bore of the actuator. Figure 1-5. Actuator crank in Close position.

4. Close the Kellyguard™. Refer to Figure 1-6.

4.2 Assembly

procedures below. NOTE: The item numbers refer to
the assembly drawing, Figure 6-1.

12. Install the outer crank seals (item 9/3) into the
groove in each crank opening in the outer cylinder

19. Hold the crank shaft (item 6) with the male hex
facing the crank opening in the outer cylinder.
With the witness mark pointing up, insert the Lock Washer
parallel key (item 22) into the slot. If positioned Lock Nut
with the link on the left, insert the key into the slot
pointing down and to the left. Refer also to Figure Crank Retainer

20. Insert the crank shaft (item 6) through the open-

ing. Pickup the crank arms (item 7) and slide the
crank shaft through. Continue to push the crank
shaft through until the crank shaft bottoms. Re-
peat for the other side. Crank Arms
21. Install the crank retainers (item 16), the lock
washers (item 26), and the lock nuts (item 25) on
both sides.

22. Install the inner seal (item 9/4) and the outer seal Tie-Rod Nut

23. Install the upper cap (item 5) face down onto the Button-Head

cylinders (items 2 and 3) so that the dowel pin
groove in the cap aligns with the dowel pin in the
top of the inner cyliner. Orienting Key
24. Lubricate the threads of the hex tie rod nuts (item Outer Seal
12) and tie rods with Never-Seez thread lubricant.
Install the nuts onto the tie rods (item 14) and
tighten the nuts using 320 lb-ft (36 N•m) torque.
25. Install the orienting key (item 10) and the button
head screw (item 11) into the upper cap. The key
should mate with a slot in the outer cylinder.
26. Manually function the actuator with a 7/8" hex key
wrench in the female hex in the crank (item 6)
several times. NOTE: It may be necessary to use
two wrenches.
