Demolition Method Statement Elilta Bridge Slab Project

This document outlines the demolition method statement for removing the L-20 formwork and PTB-01 casted portion of the Elilta Bridge slab project. It will involve chiseling and removing the concrete from PTB-01 using additional falsework and dismantling the formwork from the top down. Safety measures like PPE and fall protection will be used. The demolished materials will be disposed of properly. Equipment will include hand chisels to avoid vibration. Pictures show issues with the current formwork like insufficient prop spacing and rotten deck supports requiring full demolition.

1. Introduction
1.1 General
It is one of the Company’s objectives to introduce modern techniques to the
construction industry. In order to ensure the timely completion and quality of
works, we exhibit our demolition work methodology as follows.

1.2 Purpose
This document describes methodology for the demolition of L-20 formwork and
PTB-01 casted portion.

2. Coverage of Activities
 PTB-01 casted concrete shall be chiseled and removed from the site.
 The existing formwork and false work for level 20 shall be dismantled completely to
build a new false work and formwork.

3. WHY
Reasons for demolishing full false work and formwork for level 20.

 Current spacing of props which is 1.2m X 1.2m (see picture-1).

 Spacing of props under beams isn’t sufficient (see picture-2).
 There is no extra prop placed for beams (see picture-2).
 Deck supports/I-beams are rotten (see picture-3).
 Props head and legs/U-jack extended from the allowable limited height. It’s allowed
to extend the U-jack 30cm but currently on the site it’s extended around 50-55cm
(see picture-4).
 Formwork panel/plywood is rotten and not able to support the weight of the
concrete (see picture-5).

For the aforementioned reasons, the formwork and false work are not done as per design
requirements this we can’t take responsibility.

4. Equipment
 Hand chisel shall be used so the vibration will not affect the underneath structures.
5. Method of Demolition

5.1 PTB-01 Casted Portion

5.1.1 Top down method shall be implemented for the demolition.

5.1.2 Additional false work/props under PTB-01 shall be provided to support
the beam to safeguard from the impact load when chiseling work
undertaken.
5.1.3 PTB-01 Side shutter shall be dismantled first. The removal order shall be
the upstanding part then dropped part.
5.1.4 Then chiseling work shall be commenced. Simultaneously, once the
concrete is broken away, tendon dismantling shall be following through.
5.1.5 After all the concrete is removed, reinforcement bar shall be dismantled.
5.1.6 As the final process of the demolition, the beam deck and false work shall
be removed.

5.2 Remaining Part of L-20 Formwork

5.2.1 Top down method shall be implemented for the demolition.

5.2.2 Tendon shall be dismantled at first. The removal order shall be take out
the anchorage then strand and finally the ducts.
5.2.3 Then Reinforcement bar shall be dismantled.
5.2.4 Once the rebar is removed, formwork/plywood dismantling shall be
started.
5.2.5 Finally, the false work shall be removed. First the I-beam and horizontal
supports then props shall be dismantled.

6. Safety Measures

 Personal Protective Equipment shall be provided to workers prior to start of work.

 Inclined protection under the PTB-01 shall be provided at level 19 to protect the
damage and injury of the underneath working manpower, material and equipment’s
during the chiseling work.
 Safety belts with associated safety harness and lifeline to be provided for the
workers based on whenever required.
 The perimeter of demolition part shall be hoarded up firmly with proper sealing.
