Assignment QP RE2
Assignment QP RE2
TASK
Using CMG software and the given data provided in Appendix A i.e., field data for black oil
model, execute the following tasks. All results should be provided in graph and if any data are
not given, please use engineering skills to provide your hypothesis or assumption. Appendix A
should be mentioned in the text. The objective of this assignment is to simulate reservoir based
on waterflooding patterns starting from 1st January 2022 to obtain highest oil recovery after 10
years from data assigned in Appendix A by plotting oil recovery factor SCTR, oil production rate
SCTR and oil production cumulative SCTR along with cost of injection and production. This
assignment is to be carried out individually (100%). In completing the assignment, the
followings should be completed:
1) Assess the design analysis of complex engineering problem of the parameter involved to
generate cost and design for injection and production wells for waterflooding technique
starting from 1st January 2022 for homogeneous reservoir using CMG software.
2) Review the proposed innovative design solution in predicting the highest oil recovery
from the entire field; based on the waterflooding pattern to predict the oil recovery after
15 years.
3) Evaluate the design implementation of static model by placing different location of sink
wells when designing the reservoir in quick pattern grid.
4) Appraise the dynamic model in designing the reservoir using quick pattern grid that
leads to optimum recovery for all layer after implementation of waterflooding technique.
The results should be following the common oil field practice for the given case. SPE
standards and published articles, report, annual report can be used as reference.
5) Defend the innovative design solutions during tutor assessment.
Report Format:
Organise your work in a report detailing your findings. You must include all relevant calculation,
coding, illustration, graph or table to support your work. Refer to Appendix A for field data,
Appendix B for general requirement on report, Appendix C for guidelines on discussion,
conclusion and references, and Appendix D for marking scheme.
Grading Criteria
APPENDIX A
Data Given
The dimension of the sandstone and conglomerate water wet reservoir in both X and Y directions
are 30 respectively. The reservoir is divided into FOUR (4) consecutive layers of different
thickness; layer 1: 40 ft, layer 2: 35 ft, later 3: 45 ft and layer four 50 ft. For X dimension, the
grid size for the first 10 grid blocks are 30, from 11th to 20th block are 20 and from 21st to 30th
blocks are 30, whereas for Y dimension, the grid size for the first 10 grid blocks are 25, from 11th
to 20th block are 35 and from 21st to 30th blocks are 25. Perforate the producing zone using IMEX
Simulator and field units throughout in CMG and assume default data for the data that are not
provided. Other information for the current reservoir is given below:
Initial Conditions:
- Initial pressure at 6000 ft: 3550 psi.
- The oil-water contact is below the reservoir (6140 ft), with zero capillary pressure at the
contact.
- Depth of oil reservoir top: 700 ft.
- Reservoir Temperature: 210 oF.
- GOR: 500 cuft/bbl.
- Rock compressibility at 3550 psia: 2.8 x 10-6 psi-1.
- Stock tank oil gravity (API): 35o.
- Gas density: 0.052 lb/cuft.
- Water salinity: 10,000 ppm.
- Connate water, critical water, residual oil for Water-Oil table, residual oil for Gas-liquid
table, critical gas and saturations and Krg at connate liquid: 0.20
APPENDIX B
APPENDIX C
Discussion
In the Discussion section you should give an overall evaluation of the results of your work,
including the validity of the results. It is here that you will have the best opportunity to
demonstrate your understanding of the work and to give a critical account of what challenges
you were facing and your solution to these challenges for the assignment completion. Discussion
must follow or approaching theory/hypothesis.
Conclusion
The Conclusion is a short summary of the results of your work (about 200 words). The
Conclusion should follow naturally from the Discussion. It should give a concise statement of
what has been achieved. Anticipated application of techniques developed should be summarized
very briefly. The Conclusion should be self-contained, i.e., it should not make reference to any
sections, figures, or references in the report.
References
All references to books, papers, and other publications must be fully and correctly quoted to be
useful to the reader. Please refer to the Quick APA Referencing Guide document in APU Library
Homepage for guidance on referencing and citation.
