5 Daily Habits To Raise
Your Kids' Eman
(From The Prophet's Sunnah)
We all have the habit of regularly praying for our kids. We know it’s
important and that we should do it more. But what do you make dua for?
The list is long but one of the big things we want for our children is that
they connect withAllah for themselves. That’s what will bring maximum
spiritual power to your child’s daily life.
Not only does dua work and change your child, but it also helps you as a
parent align yourself with Allah’s purpose for your life.
First Make Dua for yourself. Each day, pray that Allah will give you the
strength to maintain your personal control as you work with your
children.
Allah provides spiritual resources when emotional
resources seem scarce. Learning to trust in Him and pray
every day for strength will go a long way to provide you
with the ability to face the challenges of parenting. And,
you’ll have greater talking points because you can model
for your child what spiritual connection looks like.
Also, pray that Allah will change your child’s heart. It’s
important to note that nowhere in the Quran does it say that
parents change children’s hearts. Allah is the guide of hearts.
Ask Allah to provide some fun times in your
day or a meaningful conversation or a
moment where you and your child are
able to connect in a deeper way than
usual. Those moments are precious.

1. Start the day
with guided focus
to blessings
Teaching your child to connect with Allah daily is the greatest
gift you can give them. Allah is always with us, but when we’re
rushing through the stress of everyday life and so is our child, it
can be hard to notice His presence.
Starting your morning with your child as you get ready with the
morning duas, and drawing their attention to the many
blessings they have present will connect them with Allah’s
presence in their life.
It doesn’t have to be an added task, but something you’re
doing as you do your child’s hair or get breakfast ready.
Make it a part of your morning ritual with your child.
The Prophet, SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam,
said:
”Allah is pleased with His slave if, when
he eats something, he thanks Allah for it,
and when he drinks something, he thanks
Allah for it.”

2. Make Spiritual
deposits
The concept of deposits comes from the work of Steven Covey. The idea
is that if we aren’t making deposits with our loved ones, we’ll have
nothing to withdraw.
When it comes to spiritual deposits, I want you to think of deposits you
make with your child to remind them of Allah, The Prophet SAWS, Quran,
good deeds.. etc
Ask your child, “How have you seen Allah’s miracles today?” Many
children know Allah is the One in control, but Draw their attention to how
Allah is constantly doing things for them in their day. And calling us
closer to Him. This will help them make their own spiritual deposits.
Draw their attention to what deposits they’ll make with Allah through
their good deeds, have them share someone they want to help today,
have them share how they’ll use a verse of Quran to think about Allah
today (you can model this by sharing first).
“O people, you should do whatever good
deeds you can, for Allah does not get tired
(of giving reward) until you get tired.
And the most beloved of good deeds to
Allah is that in which a person persists,
even if it is little. If the family of
Muhammad (SallAllahu Alayhi Wa
Sallam) started to do something,
they would persist in it.”

3. Make Them Feel
Valued
Often, we go whole days or even weeks just moving our kids through the
schedule, without taking time to really connect.
As parents, we all try and teach our children self-worth and self-belief. It
stinks when the world works against us.
We can root our children in the value Allah gives them, and what it really
means to be a Muslim.
Identify specific qualities that Allah is developing in your child. As
children see growth they can attribute it to Allah’s love and mercy for
them.
Help them focus on the Truths Allah tells us in the Quran about the
believers.
Life can be hard and we can’t always shelter our
children. But we can help them know in their heart –
where it cannot be erased – how important they are
because Allah created them intentionally and calls
them His Believers.
The Prophet SAWS modeled
for us on numerous
occasions on how to
build someone’s
confidence and make
them feel valued. The
story of Julaybib is a
beautiful example of
this.

4. Make connections
during mealtime
The time we spend with our kids at the dining table over a meal is a
palace of connection. We’re often most fully alive to life when
sharing a meal around a table.
As Muslims we need to recover the art of a slow meal around a
table with people we care about.
There are numerous hadith that are shared in the context of The
prophet SAWS sharing a meal with His family or companions. These
were moments of connection, lessons, and reflection.
The table is a place to remember the blessing of Allah. The time we
spend together as a family around a meal is also an opportunity to
find connection and belonging in our brokenness.
One of the other moments of deep connection at this time is
inviting others to share a meal. A shared meal with family, friends is a
beautiful way of modeling the sunnah and the most basic
expression of hospitality.
Jabir ibn Abdullah
reported: The
Messenger of Allah,
peace and
blessings be upon
him, said, “Verily,
the most beloved
food to Allah is
that which is
received by
many hands.”

5. Connect your child
to Allah with Dua
Helping children develop a personal faith often requires that
parents be intentional. Look for ways to help children access Allah’s
strength for personal challenges. Pray with and for kids, but
encourage them to make dua on their own. Talk about Dua and
encourage it.
The Prophet SAWS had a dua for everything, because he SAWS
understood that no action can be completed without Allah’s help.
He SAWS knew his dependence on Allah for every breath.
Teach your child some duas to incorporate daily, you can do
that by putting reminders around the house so there’s
visual cues. You can also help them reflect on moments in
their day they can call upon Allah for help.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“There is no Muslim who calls upon Allah, without
sin or cutting family ties, but that Allah will give
him one of three answers: He will quickly fulfill his
supplication, He will store it for him in the Hereafter,
or He will divert an evil from him similar to it.” They said,
“In that case we will ask for more.” The Prophet said,
“Allah has even more.” Source: Musnad Aḥmad
