Section A

Question 1

a) There are four types of communication barriers. This first is noise and
distractions.Noise is defined as a sound, especially one that is loud or
unpleasant or that causes disturbance. As an example of noise, on the part of
the sender, focusing on speaking louder to overcome the background noise
can take their attention away from the content of the communication, making it
more difficult for recipients to understand them. It can also prevent them from
picking up on feedback from the recipients, and from judging the effectiveness
of their communication. Distraction is defined as physical distractions are the
physical things that get in the way of communication. As an example, such
things include the telephone, an uncomfortable meeting place, and noise.
These physical distractions are common in the hospital setting. If the
telephone rings, the usual human tendency will be to answer it even if the
caller is interrupting a very important or even delicate conversation.
Distractions such as background noise, poor lighting, uncomfortable sitting,
unhygienic room, or an environment that is too hot or cold can affect people's
morale and concentration, which in turn interfere with effective
communication. The second barrier is filtering of messages. As an example, a
message that is informed by the third party ,the messages is informed by
multiple people until each reaches its destination which affects the messages
becoming inaccurate or wrong. The third barrier is channel breakdown. As an
example, damaged channels of communications happen when one or more
communication analysts do not report to superior because communication
channels are not ready. The fourth barrier is competing messages. Repeating
important messages won’t help if there are too many competing messages.
One more sign for the most important message won’t break through in this
situation. You have to start eliminating the competing messages to get
people’s attention. The communication barriers that Noreen could possibly
ANSWER BOOKLET
face in the context of her stays in Ireland is definitely the filtering of messages
barriers because it will be hard for Noreen to understand the language at first
so she will be seeking help from other people. In that case the third person
would not be delivering the exact message to her which may lead to confusion
for her. Besides, Some Irish people may inhale or inject short breaths while
saying "yes" during a conversation to show agreement. It sounds similar to a
gasp accompanied with the word "yes." which may also be difficult and
uneasy for Noreen to mingle with them.

b)i). There are some illusions about the reasons for data in the workplace. In
general, the term "overload" refers to "a lot of things." By "data overload," he
generally refers to the incredible information that employees manage in their
daily tasks. Regardless, the amount of information that agents handle is not
the main problem that most organizations look for in the rapidly changing work
environment. To be sure, data overload also arises from the transmission of
superfluous data to reps at the point where data overload, the volume of data
traded in the work environment, as well as poor quality of the transmission of
data to representatives. By "low quality data" I also mean data that is not
applicable to you. An excessive amount of data was collected in the work
environment. Unimportant data exchange job. Lack of coordination between
all conversations that take place at the same time in the work environment.
Workers do not have enough time to process the data received and the lack
of agreements and key insights in the work environment.

ii. The measures to be taken by the top management and the marketing
officers to reduce information overload from social media usage. is by giving
instructions to Manage Executives. Secondly by setting clear assumptions
before you make a recruit. Third is to characterize stretch objectives attached
to variable remuneration. Moreover is to have consistently booked 1-1
gatherings. Besides is to try not to hold on in case they are committing
employing errors. Lastly is by working with solid correspondence in gatherings
and composing also by giving input "for their thought

Question 2

a) The human face is incredibly expressive, capable of conveying a wide range

of emotions without saying anything. Facial expressions, unlike some other
kinds of nonverbal communication, are universal. Across civilizations, the
facial expressions for happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear, and contempt
are all the same. For example If someone is astonished, they may lift their
brows and widen their eyes.
b) Our daily lives are tied together through gestures. When debating or speaking
animatedly, you may wave, point, beckon, or use your hands, often
expressing yourself without thinking through gestures. However, the meaning
of some gestures varies greatly throughout cultures. While the hand-made
"OK" sign, for example, normally sends a good message in English-speaking
countries, it is deemed offensive in Germany, Russia, and Brazil. As a result,
it's critical to be cautious about how you utilise gestures in order to avoid
misinterpretation. For example when someone could give a "thumbs up" to
show that they agree with something or that they are enthusiastic about
something. Consider how the way people sit, move, stand, or hold their heads
affects your perceptions of them. The way you move and conduct yourself
sends out a lot of information to the rest of the world. Your posture, bearing,
stance, and subtle motions are all examples of nonverbal communication.
c) It's not just what you say, but how you say it that counts. Other people "read"
your voice in addition to listening to your words while you talk. Your timing and
pace, how loud you speak, your tone and inflection, and sounds that suggest
understanding, such as "ahh" and "uh-huh," are all things kids pay attention
to. Consider how your voice tone can convey sarcasm, rage, tenderness, or
confidence.
d) Personal appearance means the outward appearance of any person,
irrespective of sex, with regard to bodily condition or characteristics, manner
or style of dress, and manner or style of personal grooming, including, but not
limited to, hair style and beards. It shall not relate, however, to the

requirement of cleanliness, uniforms, or prescribed standards, when uniformly
applied for admittance to a public accommodation, or when uniformly applied
to a class of employees for a reasonable business purpose; or when such
bodily conditions or characteristics, style or manner of dress or personal
grooming presents a danger to the health, welfare or safety of any individual.
e) The use of time is related to how people look at time.Spatial language is often
presented in distance people use in interaction.Seating and arrangement of
furniture may also give information to the observer and influence the on-going
interaction in that setting.Americans’ understanding of time is typical of
Western cultures in general and industrialized societies in
particular.Americans view time as a commodity, as a “thing” that can be
saved., spent, or wasted.

Question 3

a) The Situational and Behavioral interviews are 2 popular formats and ways for
constructing the modern structured interview. Structured interviews have a
predetermined format where candidates are asked similar questions, while
structured interviews are unrehearsed and more casual. The significance of
situational interview is in a situational interview, an applicant will be given a
hypothetical job situation and he/she will be required to provide the ways in
which he/she will respond (backing words with action). The interviewer may
use a situational interview to test the ability of the candidate to solve a
problem given to him/her in the future, the knowledge and intelligence of the
candidate and the expertise and experience of a candidate in a
field.Situational interviews may be grounded in the “goal setting” theory in that
the goals and intentions are the precursors of the action a person takes.
Situational interviews are found to be better for lower job positions as they
have simpler questions. A situational interview will be a more reliable indicator
of the future action of an employee and how he/she will face a situation.
However, situational interviews do not tell the interviewer anything about the
past work history of the candidate. The significance of behavioral interview is a
behavioral interview would require that a candidate relates his or her actual
past incidents of life to the job for which they have applied (backing words
with experience). The interview is based on the premise that the past may
indicate the future as well. The candidate may be asked for a time in the past
when he/she had to make a critical and important decision (even in the of
ambiguity), when he/she disagreed with his/her manager or supervisor, and/or
times when he/she committed a professional mistake. The answers obtained
from the candidate during a behavioral interview may help an interview in
judging the thought process of the candidate, the past behavior of the
candidate, which indicates the future behavior and course of action the
candidate might take. This is because the candidates can select an answer in
a behavioral interview, the answers can be modified and lying may also

occur. Some research studies revealed that situational interviews may be good
only for lower-level positions and behavioral interviews may be best for the
higher and more complex positions. It may be due to the fact that behavioral
interviews tap into the recent or current job performance while a situational
interview will have simple questions (that would not provide for significant
differentiation) and would be easy to follow.

b) Information about the company and the industry segment it operates in can
be collected from the following sources about the company website. The
second is the online social networking platforms like Linkedin. The third is the
magazines, journals and newspapers. The benefit of conducting a preliminary
research before the interview is that by doing so you can apprise yourself with
what the company does, their customers and markets they are serving, and
this research can enable the candidate to ask himself the thought provoking
questions like why to join this company, does he fit in here, is this the right
profile/career path for him etc. and all this knowledge can enable him to
appear confidently in the interview.
