PowerFlex 70 - Difference Between Enhanced Control and Standard Control

The PowerFlex 70 Enhanced Control offers additional features over the Standard Control, including encoder feedback, droop, sleep/wake functions, dynamic user sets, and safe torque off. The Enhanced Control provides more functionality and is compatible with legacy communication modules. The only advantage of the Standard Control is compatibility with an older LED HIM, but LCD HIMs are now easier to use.

Question
What is the difference between PowerFlex 70 Enhanced Control and PowerFlex 70 Standard Control?

Environment
20A PowerFlex 70
20A PowerFlex 70EC (Enhanced Control)

Answer
The PowerFlex 70 Enhanced Control Release 2 (available since November, 2004) offers additional features beyond
Release 1 (April, 2004) as follows:

Force Technology is Allen Bradley's high performance vector control for precise speed or torque regulation

Encoder Feedback Option,

Droop

Sleep / Wake
Dynamic User Sets
Safe Torque Off.

In almost every way, the Enhanced Control does more than the Standard Control.

The Enhanced Control even has ScanPort, which provides compatibility with legacy communication modules;
however, there are now a few more 32 bit parameters than what was on the Standard Control (e.g.Parameter
3 [Output Current]. Other than this, the only thing that the Enhanced Control does not do, is work with the
LED HIM (20-HIM-A1).

The usage of the LED HIM is very low and is usually only used for reasons of lower cost or increased visibility.

The LCD HIMs are much easier to use, and support a new large character display mode which addresses any
perceived LED visibility advantage.
