Assignment Instructions:
• Topic: How can you use the 3 major perspectives to explain the current conflict around Covid-
19 masking/testing/vaccine) requirements?
• Answer the following questions:
1. How could you look at this issue from the structural functionalism perspective? How
do the rules and social structure maintain order and stability? What is not working?
2. How could you look at this issue from the conflict perspective? How are powerful
groups using oppression to maintain a social structure that benefits them? Where are
there inequalities that lead to conflict?
3. How could you look at this issue from the symbolic interactionism perspective? What
things have symbolic meaning, and how are people interpreting them differently? How
are they defining the situation differently, and could that be influenced by their past
experiences? How are they interacting, and with whom?

• Your response should be thoughtful and show that you’re working at a college level.
• It should be about 1 page long. Use whatever spacing and font you like, but make sure it’s
legible and long enough to address the main question(s) adequately.
