Godown Wiring Guide for Students

This document summarizes an electrical engineering experiment on wiring a godown (warehouse) circuit layout. The aim was to wire the circuit according to the given diagram. Tools like switches, junction boxes, conduits and wires were used. Different switch combinations were tested and simulated, showing that each combination controls a specific light or section in sequence. In conclusion, a godown wiring setup was created that allows only one light or section to glow at a time in a linear order, as required.

GODOWN WIRING

Aim

To wire up the circuit of godown lighting as per the given layout.

Tools and accessories required:

1way switch, 2-way switches, junction boxes, PVC conduits, connecting wires, fuse, lamp, lamp
holder, wire stripper, line tester, insulation tape and test board circuit.

Wiring layout & Condition:

Test board connection:

Procedure

1. Fix the conduits and the junction boxes on the work board as per the wiringlayout.
2. Lay down the wires through the conduits as per the wiringdiagram.
3. By connecting a series test lamp circuit check whether there is an open circuit or shortcircuit.

Testing Procedure

1. Connect the test board lamp in series with the circuit lamp by keeping the test lamp switch
open (OFF) and circuit lamp switch closed(ON).
2. The power rating of the lamp in the test board and in the wiring circuit should have same
wattage.
3. If there is an open circuit then both the lamps will notglow.
4. If there is a short circuit only the test board lamp will glow brighter and the circuit lamp will
notglow
5. When there is no fault in the circuit then both the lamps will glow with equallydim.
6. After testing the circuit, close the test lamp switch, and then operate the wiring circuit verify
theconditions.
Simulation Diagram:

Case1: Switches S1 in OFF, S2 in C1 and S3 in C1 pos

The
Positive of function generator is connected to a terminal of Switch S1, the other terminal is connected to
the Common of Switch S2. Terminal 1 of Switch S2 is connected to Terminal 2 of Bulb L1 and Terminal
2 of Switch S1 is connected to Common of Switch S3. The T1 of Switch S3 is connected to Terminal 2 of
Bulb L2 and T2 of Switch S3 is connected to Terminal 2 of Bulb 3. All the three Terminal T1 of L1, L2
and L3 are then connected to neutral and completed by connecting to the Negative terminal of the
function Generator.
Here, Since Switch S1 is switched off the circuit is open and none of the bulbs would glow.
Case2: Switches S1 in ON, S2 in C1 and S3 in C1 posit

The Positive of function generator is connected to a terminal of Switch S1, the other terminal is connected
to the Common of Switch S2. Terminal 1 of Switch S2 is connected to Terminal 2 of Bulb L1 and
Terminal 2 of Switch S1 is connected to Common of Switch S3. The T1 of Switch S3 is connected to
Terminal 2 of Bulb L2 and T2 of Switch S3 is connected to Terminal 2 of Bulb 3. All the three Terminal
T1 of L1, L2 and L3 are then connected to neutral and completed by connecting to the Negative terminal
of the function Generator.
Here, Switch S1 is turned on and S2 is at C1 and S3 is at C1, the flow of current will be through S1 then
to Bulb L1 and then to complete the circuit through the neutral.
Case3: Switches S1 in ON, S2 in C2 and S3 in C1 position

Here, Switch S1 is turned on and S2 is at C2 and S3 is at C1, the flow of current will be through S1 then
through S2 to Switch S3 and then to Bulb 2 since it is connected to C1 of Switch S3. The circuit is
competed by flow through the neutral to the Negative of Function generator.
Case4: Switches S1 in ON, S2 in C2 and S3 in C2 position

Here, Switch S1 is turned on and S2 is at C2 and S3 is at C2, the flow of current will be through S1 then
through S2 to Switch S3 and then to Bulb 3 since it is connected to C2 of Switch S3. The circuit is
competed by flow through the neutral to the Negative of Function generator.

Results and Inferences:

A Godown wiring setup has been successfully created and verified for the required condition.

The lights are connected in such a set up that at a time only one Bulb or one section of lights glow
in a linear order.
