4th Quarter Requirement

A. Evaluative Statement: Look for an article discussing the following issues. Identify the claim first
and formulate your evaluative statements each.

1. 2022 Presidential Election

2. Police brutality in the Philippines
3. Increase in cases outside NCR ‘more evident’: DOH
4. Economist eyes slower inflation starting this month
5. Leisure travel from NCR plus to MGCQ areas now allowed: DOT

B. Textual Evidence: Provide 8 inferences with textual evidence on the following statements

1. Agamemnon is hot-tempered to the point that his temper sometimes gets in the ways of his
best interests. Following the Achaians’ defeat of the Trojan town of Chryses, Agamemnon
takes Chryseis, daughter of Apollo’s priest Chryses as a prize. In accordance with established
custom, Chryses offers Achilleus a substantial ransom in exchange for the return of his
daughter. Agamemnon, who likes Chryseis better than his own wife, responds to Chryses’
fair offer by driving him away with harsh words saying, “The girl I will not give back; sooner
will old age come upon her in my own house in Argos.” He then orders Chryses to leave
immediately for his own safety. Although Chryses’ actions are entirely appropriate,
Agamemnon loses his temper to the point that he ignores his obligation of hospitality and
shows disrespect and contempt to a priest of Apollo. As a result of Agamemnon’s inability to
control his anger, Apollo sends a plague to punish the Greeks. Agamemnon’s hot temper is
further evidenced by Kalchus’ reluctance to tell the Achaians that the plague destroying the
troops has been sent by Apollo as punishment for the Agamemnon’s disrespect to Chryses.
In fact, Kalchus is so fearful of Agamemnon’s anger and its repercussions that he asks for
Achilleus’ protection before he reveals the cause of the plague. Kachus’ fear is justified.
After Kalchus tells the raging king that his prize must be returned to stop the plague on his
men, Agamemnon goes into a rage, his heart “filled black to the brim with anger from
beneath” with his eyes showing “like fire in their blazing.” Although he ultimately agrees to
give up his prize so that his men will be safe, Agamemnon’s hot temper flares again in
response to Achilleus’ suggestion that in the absence of an available prize to replace the loss
of Chryseis, Agamemnon forgo taking a new prize until the defeat of Troy. An argument
follows, and Achilleus declares that he will leave Troy and return to his home. Furious at the
idea that he alone should go without a prize, Agamemnon tells his best warrior, “Run away
by all means…I will not entreat you to stay…Go home with your own ships…I care nothing
about you.” Agamemnon’s extreme anger blinds him to the fact that in sending away
Achilleus he is sending away the Greeks’ best hope for a victory against the Trojans.
