Laboratory Three Ea

This laboratory experiment involves designing a circuit to convert a light intensity signal from a light dependent resistor (LDR) into a voltage signal using a Wheatstone bridge and instrumentation amplifier. The circuit will have a light sensor, LDR, Wheatstone bridge, instrumentation amplifier to amplify the signal with a gain of 500, voltage controlled oscillator to convert the amplified signal to a triangular wave, and active filters to condition the output signal. Students will need to design their own regulated voltage source for the circuit and document the theoretical background, design, simulations, results, analysis, and conclusions in a report.

LIGHT SIGNAL CONVERTOR USING AN INSTRUMENTATION

AMPLIFIER.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES.

a) Reaffirm theoretical foundation and electronic design procedures.

b) Design, simulate, implement, put into operation and sustain educational applications
with the use of resistors, diodes, transistors and other electronic elements.
c) Consult technical manuals of semiconductor devices and digital integrated circuits.
d) Manage computational tools for analysis, simulation and design of digital operations.
e) Analyze and identify failures in electronic systems.
f) Prepare a report with analysis and justification of the results obtained.

APPROACH.

Statement: There is a system where the pressure signal must be acquired. Using an
instrumentation amplifier, such as the INA128 or AD620, perform the conversion and
amplification of a light intensity signal using a light sensor to resistance LDR, using a
Wheatstone bridge (see figure 1), where it must use the instrumentation amplifier to
amplify the voltage signal between nodes D and B with a gain of 500.

The first thing to understand is how the LDR works and then how the Wheatstone bridge
works, which allows activating a frequency reference by VCO (LM555).

To obtain the triangular reference signal, an LDR sensor and an instrumentation amplifier
must be used to obtain a V/Lumex ratio. Then the signal obtained should be converted
into a triangular signal using a voltage-frequency converter (VCO) and Non-linear circuit
with Op-Amp. The system should visualize the change when it is above or below of the
frequency reference.

Then the signal must pass through an active filter for the conditioning of the resulting
signal, where the filter must be of order 5, which allows eliminating the frequency of 60
Hz and eliminating all frequencies that are above 5 kHz (it must be guaranteed an output
response using an approximation of the views in class).

NOTE: You must design your own regulated source for the circuit to be implemented,
you must use a linear regulated voltage source for this, according to what you investigated
in the series regulation and linear regulators task previously left in class for your research.
