FDD

Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) uses paired spectrum for simultaneous transmission and reception on different frequencies, with fixed capacity allocated for uplink and downlink. Time Division Duplex (TDD) utilizes unpaired spectrum with a single frequency, sharing the channel for transmission and reception, requiring guard time between them. Both methods have specific requirements for frequency allocation and signal management.

FDD:

Frequency Division Duplex

 It is paired spectrum meaning you are allotted a lower frequency band along with an upper frequency
band (transmit on the upper band and receive on the lower band)
 fixed capacity is allocated separately by regulators to the uplink and downlink
 The bandwidth available in each direction is the same
 transmission and reception of signals are achieved simultaneously using two different frequencies
 possible to transmit and receive signals simultaneously as the receiver is not tuned to the same
frequency as the transmitter
 require a guard band between the transmitter and receiver frequencies
TDD:

Time Division Duplex

 It is unpaired spectrum meaning you only have a slice of spectrum to transmit on and receive within
 unsymmetrical requirements such as web browsing, video streaming or email transfer
 single frequency and it shares the channel between transmission and reception
 require a guard time or guard interval between transmission and reception
