2022 Video Interview Prep - J.P. Morgan
With the many changes taking place this year you will find all stages of recruitment for 2022
Programmes will be virtual. It is therefore essential you become comfortable and familiar with how
to make a good virtual impression. This support material is here to guide you on the following:
1. Top tips for a video interview
2. Support with video interview questions
When sitting any firm assessment, it is advisable that you familiarise yourself with the firm’s purpose and
values which can be found on all company’s website (https://careers.jpmorgan.com/us/en/about-us) . You
should also pay attention to the key competencies the division is looking for which can be found within the
job description.
• What makes you stand out? Think about what 1 thing you want the person reviewing your
video interview to remember about you (remember every other candidate will have a strong
academic track record so it should go beyond your academics. Have you ever represented
the country competitively? Have you done significant/unique volunteering work? What’s
your greatest achievement? Have you started a business? Have you done other internships
in different industries that gives you an interesting perspective? You should try and
incorporate these experiences into your examples)
• Know your CV: Go through your CV and list the skills you gained from the experiences listed.
Think about the stories that can be used to demonstrate transferrable skills (for investment
banking, this includes: (analytical skills, teamwork, project work, presentation/
communication, endurance/resilience, interest in businesses). Most firms will clearly state
on their graduate recruitment sites and/or under the job spec what skills they are looking
for. The interviews are an opportunity to provide evidence of how you possess these skills
• Dress up professionally as you would for an actual interview (If this is equivalent to your
first round interview at the firm in most cases – if you pass this, you will go on to final round
interview)
• Choose a quiet location so you can focus fully. Make sure the background of the recording is
not distracting and looks professional. If you don’t know where to go – you can always
consult your Career Services to see whether they have suggestions of “quiet rooms” on
campus
• Check your audio-visual equipment beforehand to make sure it is fully function (worst thing
is to record yourself with no sound/video!)
• Look into the webcam so you are addressing the viewer directly
• Practise beforehand by taking a video of yourself using your mobile phone and seeing how
you look/sound
• Do not leave the interview to the last minute – Although a deadline may not have been
specified don’t leave this interview to the last minute. Ultra-responsiveness will serve you
well in this industry. Other candidates who get things done quickly (and done well of course)
STRICTLY PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL
leave a much better impression than those who leave it right to the end before completing
the task.
For competency based questions, always try to use the STARE method. The “E” stands for Evaluate
whereby you also highlight what you would have done differently or what you have learnt from the
situation.
