Method Statement For Construction of Precast Concrete Pipe Culvert
Method Statement For Construction of Precast Concrete Pipe Culvert
The purpose of this method of statement is to define the procedures to ensure that the proposed
materials and workmanship to be used at the site are complying with the condition / requirements
as stipulated in the specifications.
2.0 SCOPE
This method statement covers the requirements for installation of Precast Concrete Culvert
works. This method statement is to be adopted during constructing entrance culvert at Sekuau,
Selangau, Sibu. This method statement describes the controlling precast elements during the
installation of precast culvert.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PRECAST
CONCRETE PIPE CULVERT
6.0 SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
7.0 PROCEDURE:
METHODOLOGY
B. SETTING OUT
• After the site has been surveyed, the limits of excavation shall be set out to true
lines, curves and slope.
C. EXCAVATION
• The excavation for foundation bed for pipe culverts shall be done true to the lines
and grades shown on the drawings.
• The removal of all logs, stumps, grub, and other deleterious matter and obstruction,
necessary for placing the foundations, trimming of excavations, backfilling and clearing
up the site and disposal of all surplus material.
• Excavation shall consist of the removal of the material include draining and pumping.
• The bedding shall be backfilled with approved granular material and compacted up to
specified level.
D. FORMWORK
• Formwork of required length and size shall be provided for laying and placing of lean
concrete layer.
• Formwork shall be removed not earlier than 24 hours after placing of concrete, subjected
to concrete characteristic strength.
METHOD STATEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PRECAST
CONCRETE PIPE CULVERT
E. LAYING AND LEVELING COURSE / LEAN CONCRETE
• Levelling course Concrete Grade 15 shall be pour to thickness of 50mm to reach required
founding level. Concreting of reinforced beam, reinforced slab to receive Precast
Concrete Pipe shall be done after 24 hours, subjected to concrete characteristic strength.
• Adequate number of needle vibrator will be used for proper compaction of concrete.
F. PIPE LAYING
• Pipes will be laid in true length and line as per working drawings at the approval of the
foundation bed by Engineer.
• The lifting, loading and unloading of precast concrete pipe will be done by small cranes /
JCB at the factory / yard in such a manner that the pipes do not suffer any undue
structural strain or damage.
• The pipe will be laid to both directions depending on the case. It will be kept in view that
the ends will be matching to the outer face of the wing wall.
G. PIPE JOINTING
• The pipe shall be jointed by flush joint. Flush joint may be internal flush joint or external
flush joint. In either case, the ends of the pipes shall be specially shaped to form a self-
centring joint with a jointing space 300 mm wide.
• The jointing space shall be filled with cement mortar, I cement to 3 sand, mixed
sufficiently dry to remain in position when forced with a trowel or rammer. Care shall be
taken to fill all voids and excess mortar shall be removed
• Concreting of reinforced wing wall and removal of formwork shall be done not less than
24 hours, subjected to concrete characteristic strength.
I. BACKFILLING
• Immediately after the pipes have been laid and the jointing material has hardened the
trench will be backfilled
METHOD STATEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PRECAST
CONCRETE PIPE CULVERT
• Backfilling up to 300 mm above the top of the pipe shall be done carefully and the soil
shall be thoroughly rammed, tamped or vibrated in layers not exceeding 200mm. The
gaps between two adjacent pipes shall also be filled in the same procedure as explained
above.
