What is Kobo Toolbox?

Kobo Toolbox is a suite of tools for field data collection for use in challenging environments.
Our software is free and open source and works both on and offline. Most of our users are
people working in humanitarian crises, as well as aid professionals and researchers working
in developing countries.

Languages Supported

You can create Kobo Toolbox projects in many languages, from French to Korean, Russian,
Japanese, and more. The interface supports English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Kurdish,
and Chinese. If you’re using a supported alphabet, you can of course write your form’s
questions in whatever language you like.

Sign up and Login:

Kobo Toolbox is a free and open source software. If you work for a humanitarian organization,
please sign up by clicking on “create Account” on left side. After activating your account
through the emailed link, you can log in to access your account.

 Click on account settings to make any updates in the account or to update the
password

Creating a new form

You can create a new form in four different ways. When you click on the new button, your
options are:

1. Build from scratch to create a new form from scratch, you can input project details and
click Create Project.
2. Use a template to use a template, you need to first go to Library and create one.
3. Upload an XLSForm Import an existing form from an external file in the XLSForm
format, for example when sharing form drafts between colleagues.
4. Import an XLSForm via URL Enter a valid XLSForm URL to import an existing form. For
instructions, visit Importing an XLSForm via URL.

Create your first form:

 Create your first form by clicking on New which you see on left top corner.

 Choose a source for your project and input project details

 Click on “Build from scratch” to start a new project
 Enter the project details

 Click on the + button to add your first question

Choose the response type

 To save the form click the Save button, then ‘X’ to close the form

Deploying the form

To start collecting data you need to first deploy your draft form as a new data collection
project. Click the Deploy button to make the form live and allow data collection to begin

You can save and deploy your project, make edits, and then redeploy your form to make the
changes live - as many times as you like.

You will be prompted to redeploy your form when you have made changes to your form that
are not yet public.

 Click on the data tab to view the raw data of all the entries

 Check the entry which you want to delete and click on delete option

Downloading the responses

 Click on Export option to get the data in an excel format. Once the data is exported,
click on download option to save the excel file
