Abstract
“Chinese taro(Xanthosoma sagittifolium) as Source of
Bioplastic.” Sindangan, Unpublished Research,
Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM), Sindangan National High School, Sindangan,
Zamboanga del Norte, April,2018.
The aim of this research study was to find out the
use of Chinese taro as source of bioplastic. The amount
of Chinese taro starch was varied in order to find out
what proportion would have good performance. The amounts
of glycerin, water, and vinegar (additives) were held
constant such that only the amount of Chinese taro starch
was varied in order to find out what proportion of the
bioplastic sheet would have good performance.
There were three levels of starch: Sample A having
twenty grams (20)of starch which was the control group;
the experimental group: Sample B having forty (40) grams
of starch and Sample C having 60 grams of starch. Each
sample was tested with their property in terms of tensile
strength, elasticity and biodegradability suspended in
air. Each sample had 3 replicates. Analysis of Variance
was the statistical tool used in the study to know if the
null hypothesis would be rejected or accepted.
The results of the tests indicated that the
x
variations of the amounts of Chinese taro starch showed
insignificant effect, but it could be possible to be
another source of bioplastic provided that a further
study on this should be conducted to obtain better and
satisfying results.
