MarkzTools2 Successful Activation
MarkzTools2 Attempting to Activate
The very first time you start up MarkzTools2, it will attempt to contact Markzware's License Server and activate.
This should be a fairly transparent process. If MarkzTools2 is able to contact the License Server, then you will be
activated. The screen shown on the left designated as (1) is a screen that in many cases will flash by so rapidly you
will not see it. If you have a slow internet connection or are blocked from getting out to the internet, you will see
screen #1.
Normally you will just see screen #2, stating you are activated and MarkzTools2 is ready to go. Click the Close
button to dismiss this screen. At this time you should also have the MarkzTools2 Registration Screen visible.
Please fill out the Registration form before starting to use MarkzTools2.
Should you have any issues we have provided links on the Activation Complete screen to contact Markzware Tech
Support.

MarkzTools2 Failed Activation
MarkzTools2 - Attempting To Activate
MarkzTools2 uses standard internet ports (HTTP/HTTPS on port 80/443) to try and communicate with the License
Server. If you have a slow internet connection or are blocked from internet access due to security issues, the
pictured screen appears and does not go away until you click the Close button. Under standard conditions, the
screen should disappear within roughly 30 seconds.
If you encounter this screen and it does not close by itself within a reasonable amount of time, please contact
Markzware Tech Support

MarkzTools2 - Non-Activated Product
If for any reason MarkzTools2 was unable to reach our License Server, you should still be able to run the product
for a limited time, but every time you start up MarkzTools2 you will be presented with a screen reminding you to
take action by a specified date. In many cases the screen is displayed as the result of MarkzTools2 being blocked
by a Proxy Server in use at your location.
If you continuously see this window, you need to contact Markzware Tech Support. The grace period for running
MarkzTools2 in a non-activated state should be long enough and should be annoying enough that you will take
action and contact Markzware well before your expiration date arrives.

Drag & Drop
Drag the InDesign files you wish to convert to IDML onto the MarkzTools2 window. By default the IDML files will be

MarkzTools2 Converts your file
Depending on the complexity and size of your InDesign file, the conversion may be so quick, you won't even see a
progress bar!
10/17/18 2:21 PM ©2018 Markzware Page 21
MarkzTools2 - Standalone INDD to IDML Converter User Guide
You now have an IDML file
MarkzTools2 will create a folder using the InDesign document's filename, and the resulting IDML will be created
inside that folder, also named the same as the original InDesign document. The newly created IDML file can be
opened in other versions of InDesign, or used as a backup or however you normally use IDML files.
That's it! To change the location of where the IDML files will be created, you can modify MarkzTools2's Preferences
which are right on the same window where you drag-and-drop files to convert them into IDML.

If IDML Exists:
The If IDML Exists options determine whether to replace an existing IDML file or create a new version of the file.
1. Replace will overwrite an existing IDML file of the same name. Important Note - MarkzTools2 will never
overwrite an IDML file created using InDesign. MarkzTools2 will only overwrite IDML files it has created.
2. Rename will create a new version of an IDML of the same name and append a number to the end of the
name so you may reference the different versions. For example, if you convert the same InDesign file
named "Test" three times, with the rename option enabled you will end up with three separate IDML files
named Test.idml, Test_1.idml and Test_2.idml.

MarkzTools2 - Standalone INDD to IDML Converter User Guide
Create Lo-Res Previews:
Some Background Info - When InDesign opens an IDML which references an image that cannot be located, it will
create a gray tint box as a “placeholder” for the image. If you choose to have preview files created by MarkzTools2
they will be stored in a sub-folder named “Lo-Res
Lo-Res Previews
Previews” so you can easily locate them and update the links (to
at least view what the original images looked like). InDesign has a feature where you can locate just one of the
previews and it will update all other links to the previews it finds in that folder. Another way to do this is to simply
move the IDML file created by MarkzTools2 into the “Lo-Res Previews” folder before opening it in InDesign.
The Lo-Res Previews MarkzTools2 generates are not intended to be used for high quality print work, they are
solely intended to give you a better idea of how the original file appeared. Since it may be difficult to visualize how a
document originally appeared, MarkzTools2 gives you some options on whether you would like Lo-Res Preview
files to be created.
The following Lo-Res Preview options are available under MarkzTools2:
1. None will not create any previews, only an IDML file will be created.
2. For Missing Images Only will only create lo-res previews for missing images used in the InDesign file.
3. For All Images will create lo-res previews for all images used in the InDesign file,

After Conversion:
The After Conversion options allows you to select additional features to be performed after the IDML file has been
successfully created.
1. Play Sound will play a sound upon successful conversion of a file. If you do not set up a custom sound to
play then your System Default sound will play upon successful conversion of a file. ( See the Play Sound
Options section for details on how to customize your sound).
2. Reveal in Finder will highlight your IDML in the Finder after a successful conversion.
3. Open IDML in InDesign will send your IDML file to InDesign and open it as a new Untitled document. If you
have multiple versions of InDesign loaded on your computer, your IDML file will open the latest version of
InDesign you have installed.
4. Save Document - If the “Open IDML in InDesign“ option is selected and InDesign is active at the time of the
conversion you will be conveniently prompted to give the new document a name, with the IDML’s filename
used as the default (In other words - the name of the original InDesign file will be offered as the default
"Save As" name instead of Untitled!)
