Wi-Qa-05, Initial Flow Control

The document outlines procedures for initial flow quality control (IFQC) when starting mass production of a new product, implementing engineering changes, or changing production processes. Key steps include collecting requirements, conducting trials, approving samples, and producing pilot lots. During initial production, parts receive special tags and inspections are more frequent than normal. Initial flow control lasts one month but may be extended if non-conformities are found to monitor corrections. Special procedures ensure proper materials, dimensions, and traceability during the initial production phase.

INITIAL FLOW QUALITY CONTROL (IFQC)

Need of Initial flow Control Inspection :
Special control required during the initial phase of mass production or any of the below conditions occurs :
New Product Development
Engineering Change Note
4 M Condition Change
NPD Initial Flow Control System :
► All the required information is collected by engineering (NPD) such as product's drawings, raw material, master
sample, matching part, part's weight, critical check points & other customer specific requirements etc.

► Before mould / part trial, training is imparted to all concerned about part's critical check points/special conditions.

► All the mould / part trial preparations are checked by quality engineer such as right raw material, raw material pre-
heating temperature & time, raw material batch number etc.
► Trial qty. is decided with mutual discussion with customer, trial parts are checked in comparision to master sample
provided by customer. Part is verified for Weight /Color/ Visual defects and specified critical dimensions .

► First trial in the organization is called T-0, and then second T-1, T-2 & T-3 respectively.
► After trial, minutes of meeting is prepared with customer engineering team (Quality & Tool Room) and observations
are recorded in the same with action plans & their target dates.

► Sample inspection report is prepared jointly with customer or individually, and based on the observations, mould
correction is done for abnormalities, and the same NG dimensions are verified during next trial. Trials can be
repeated until part meets the specifications.

► After sample submission & approval of customer, pilot lots are prepared and submitted to customer & observation
are recorded.
► After getting quality approval of pilot lots, mass production is started as per customer instructions.
Mass production initial supplies :
► Inspection parameters & inspection frequency can be more than normal inspection standards or as specified by
Customer.
► Part inspection is only done by NPD team, final checking is done by trained & designated final checkers only . The
findings / observations will be re-verified by designated Engineer-NPD/ Quality Head .

► Lot/ part traceability (batch/lot number) is mentioned on the part (Mandatory for initial flow control period)
► During the period of initial flow control, all the material is supplied with NPD stickers pasted on the material bins /
boxes for easy assessability for Customers.
