Am I A Teenager or An Adult

The document discusses the challenges of defining adulthood and when someone transitions from being a teenager to being an adult. There is no single clear determinant for adulthood, as definitions can vary based on biological age, legal age, level of maturity and responsibility. While some define adulthood beginning at age 18, others argue it depends more on being financially independent and having a separate identity. The passage from teenager to adulthood is complicated as adolescents are unsure what it means to be an adult and how to achieve that level of maturity. The author reflects that achieving adulthood requires significant responsibility, effort and understanding, and that legally being an adult at 18 differs from truly facing adulthood.

Am I a Teenager or an Adult?
When a human being is considered as an adult? When a teenager will be free to
do what he wants? When will I be independent? They are questions that are very
common in modern life. Human adulthood encompasses psychological adult
development. Definitions of adulthood are often inconsistent and contradictory; a
person may be biologically an adult, and have adult behavior but still be treated as a
child if they are under the legal age of majority. Conversely, one may legally be an
adult but possess none of the maturity and responsibility that may define an adult
character.
There is no clear determinant for determining when a person becomes an adult.
Some people say, it is when you turn eighteen others said it is when you get your
driver’s license. One thing is for sure though to become an adult you must be mature
and ready to take on the world. Being an adult means achieving a separate identity,
being able to support yourself and/or your family financially, and being able to provide
yourself with a house or a place to call home. Adulthood consists of many different
aspects, and is not an easy part of life.
Young adults think differently than adolescents and they have different views and
opinions on things. During adulthood, an individual begins to discontinue their risky
behaviors such as having sex without protection, driving recklessly, and playing
dangerous sports. On the other hand, some people still continue this behavior while in
adulthood but it is not common. Many people believe that the key sign of actually
becoming an adult is financially supporting oneself. This step occurs sooner to the
students who either do not attend college or do not finish high school. Students which
go to college, this occurs to them later on in life. Once a person has established their
own identity, they are prepared to establish an intimacy with another person.
The passage from teenager to adulthood is one of the most complicated and
confusing processes an adolescent can experience. It is especially confusing since the
teenager is not totally sure what it means to be an adult, and how he/she is supposed
to achieve this level of maturity. If one doesn't know what it means to be an adult, it is
much harder to attain this maturity since it is unknown to him/her how to reach this
point. However, there are many speculations and opinions about what it means to be
an adult and what one must accomplish in order to reach this point. There are certain
things a teenager must understand before the age of adulthood is reached. This
understanding is what brings a child into adulthood, not age or size.
My own experience has shown me that become an adult is a hard task. I want to
be independent for some things like go to parties go out with my friends and others but
I am still depending on my parents economically. I am almost 20 and I cannot do what
I want. For being an adult is necessary a lot responsibility, effort and comprehension.
Legally, in our country when you reach 18 you are an adult but the age is not the most
important matter. The most important thing is to face adulthood like an adult.
