Prayers to Recite for
Illness

What can be recited for those who are suffer-
ing from illness?
The following things can be recited:
1. Recite the following six verses of healing
from the Qur’an. The sick person can recite
them in the morning and evening or they can
be read over water and drunk in the morning
and evening:
َ مؤ ِْم ِن
" ( ٍ صدُو َر َقوْم ِ َش
ُ ف ْ َوي
الصدُو ِر
( شفَا ٌء <لمَ ا ِفي
ِ َو
ٌختَلِف
ْ م( اب
ٌ ش َر ِ ُخ ُرجُ ِمن بُط
َ ونهَا ْ َي
ِ Mشفَا ٌء لِلن
اس ِ أ َ ْلوَانُ ُه ِف
ِ يه
ِ َهو
شفَا ٌء َو َرحْ مَ ٌة ُ ن مَا ِ َونُنَز< ُل ِم َن ا ْل ُق ْرآ
َ <ل ْلمُ ؤ ِْم ِن
"
ِ"َش ِف
ْ ضتُ فَ ُهوَ ي َ َو إِذَا
ْ م ِر
ِ هدًى َو
شفَا ٌء َ ل ِذي َن آM ِهوَ ل
ُ منُوا ُ ُق ْل
2. The following prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ
(al-Salat al-Tibbiyyah) can also be recited in
the same way:
ب ِ ٍدMسي ِ<دنَا مُحَ م
< ط َ ص <ل
َ ع َلى َ مM ل ُهM ال
ِ لوب و د
َوائها ِ ال ُق
ِ فائها و ُق
وت ِ شِ نو ِ وع
ِ َبْداlَافي ِة ا
َبْصا ِر وlائها و نُو ِر ا ِ َ َ ْرواحِ و ِغذlا
َ وصحْ ِب ِه َو
س <ل ْم َ يائها وعلى آلِ ِه ِ ض ِ
Allahumma salli `ala sayyidina Muhammad tib-
bi’l-qulubi wa dawa’iha wa afiyati-l’abdani wa
shifa’iha wa quti’l-arwahi wa ghidha’iha wa
nuri’l-absari wa diya’iha wa `ala alihi wa sahbihi
wa sallim
O Allah bestow your peace and blessings upon
our Master Muhammad and upon his Family
and Companions, the source of medicine and
healing for people’s hearts, the source of health
and well-being for people’s bodies, the source of
nourishment for people’s souls and the source of
light for people’s vision.
3. Repeat the following in abundance:
، خ ْل ِق ِه
َ يَا عَلِيمً ا ِب، خ ْل ِق ِه َ طيفًا ِب ِ يَا َل
ُطيْف ِ خ ْل ِق ِه ا ُ ْلطُفْ ِبنَا يَا َل
َ خ ِبي ًرا ِب
َ يَا
َ يَا، يَا عَلِيْ ُم،
خ ِبيْ ُر
Ya Latifan bi khalqihi ya `Aliman bi khalqihi ya
Khabiran bi khalqihi ultuf bina ya Latifu ya `Al-
imu ya Khabiru
O One Who is gentle with His creation, O One
who has complete knowledge of His creation, O
One who has complete awareness of His cre-
ation! Treat us with gentleness O Gentle, O All-
Knowing, O All-Aware!
4. Repeat twenty times in the morning and
evening:
"َش ِف
ْ ضتُ فَ ُهوَ ي َ و إِذا
ْ م ِر
Wa idha maridtu fa huwa yashfin
When I am ill, it is He Who cures me (26:80)
5. Repeat the following verse 7 times or up to 70
times a day
َو ِبا ْلحَ ق< أَنزَ ْلنَاهُ َو ِبا ْلحَ ق< نَزَ َل
Wa bi’lhaqqi anzalnahu wa bi’lhaqqi nazal
We sent it down in truth, and in truth it has de-
scended (17:105)
6. These surahs: al-Inshirah, al-Qadr, Quraysh,
al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and al-Nas
7. This Prophetic dua:
Say 3 times:
tِبسم ِ ا
Bismillah
In the name of Allah
Then say 7 times:
َ ِ و ُق ْد َر ِت ِه ِم ْنtأَعوذُ ِب ِعز< ِة ا
ش <ر ما
ِ ُ ج ُد و أ
حاذر ِ َأ
A`udhu bi `izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri
ma ajid wa uhadhir
I seek refuge in Allah’s might and power from
any evil that I am experiencing or I fear
8. Repeat this Prophetic dua:
ِ شي ٍْء ي
َ ُؤذي
ك َ ك ِم ْن ُك <ل
َ ِ أ َ ْر ِقيtاسم ِ ا
ْ ِب
Bismillahi arqika min kulli shay’in yu’dhik
In the name of Allah I seek healing for you from
everything which harms you
9. This can also be repeated 100 times a day or
more or less

َ احم
Rabbi inni massani addurru wa anta
arhamu’rrahimin
My Lord, affliction has seized me, but You are
the Most Merciful
