installation and maintenance.

1 Introduction
MGB1-HX3806-1 GSM/GPRS communication module can be applicable for the HXE12-KP type of
meter, which realizes the remote communication function of AMI meter and prepayment meter. The
module supports GPRS communication and GSM communication, which furnishes SMS remote
meter reading and three online modes: permanent online & period online & passive activation,
separately.

3 Main Functions
Up-link communication supports GPRS communication and SMS communication, which
could be configured as the SMS mode or GPRS model as needed, besides, GPRS
communication could deal with the text message simultaneously.
The module furnishes three online modes: permanent online & period online & passive
activation.
GPRS meter reading by DLMS protocol
SMS meter reading by DLMS protocol, SMS byte number per frame should be less than 140
bytes.
SMS mode supports the prepayment meter reading command;
SMS mode supports issuance of token code
Initiate reporting of alarm under GPRS mode
Shielding illegal calls
Supporting initiative SMS reporting as needed by meter
Hot swap
4 Indicator Lights
V1 is green local communication light. If V1 is lightened, it means the module and meter
communication is OK. vice versa.
V2/V3 light located below V1. Green light V2 is network communication light, red light V3
is data communication light.
V2 network communication light:
Off no network/no SIM card/no signal/broken module
1HZ flickering GSM register successful
always on GPRS logon successful
V3 data communication light
The light flickers at the frequency of 10HZ when the module is communicating with
the external equipment through SMS or GPRS.

5 SIM Card Loading and Replacing
a. Open the card slot by pushing to left
b. Load the card slot downward, as shown below.
c. Close the card slot and push it at right side to make sure the SIM card is fixed firmly.

When you need to change the card when the meter is running. Please open the SIM card slot and
push the card-changing button 5S until the module indicator V5 is off. Changing the card within
30s. The module will have an auto reboot after 30 seconds.

GPRS module communicates with the meter by serial port, the relative information about output is as
following:

Communication protocol is in accordance with “Interface Protocol Standard between
Communication Module and Meter of Hexing”. Hardware interface is in accordance with
“Hardware Interface Specification between Communication Module and Meter of
Hexing”.
8 Important Notes
Do not place it within the airtight metal box, otherwise you should lead the antenna out of
the metal box
Please set up the lightning rod when it is used in a high place out door.
The product is not water-proof. Please do not place it in the open air and humid place
without any shelter.
Please protect it against electrostatic discharge.
