Introduction to NET

NUST Entry Test (NET) is required for admission to Undergraduate programs in National
University of Science & Technology. Following details are important to be noted before appearing
in test.
Pattern:
• Total NET Marks: 200
• Total NET MCQ: 200
• No Negative Marking
• Test Time: 180 Minutes (3 Hrs)
• Division of marks among subjects is as follows:
1) Mathematics: 80 MCQ
2) Physics: 60 MCQ
3) Chemistry: 30 MCQ
4) English: 20 MCQ
5) IQ Portion: 10 MCQ

Test subjects for different categories:


• Engineering / Computer Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry / Computer Science,
English & Intelligence
• Applied Biosciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Intelligence
• Business Studies / Social Sciences: Verbal (English), General Mathematics & Intelligence
• BS Mathematics: Mathematics, English & Intelligence
• BS Physics: Physics, Mathematics, English & Intelligence
• BS Chemistry: Chemistry, English & Intelligence
• Bachelor in Architecture / Bachelor in Industrial Design: Mathematics, Physics, English,
Intelligence
Nature of MCQ’s in each subject:
• For IQ Portion, MCQs are related to:
1) Box Reasoning
2) Direction Finding
3) Coding/Decoding
4) Sequence
5) Pick out Odd One
• For English, MCQs are related to:
1) Synonyms
2) Antonyms
3) Comprehension
4) Guess the correct of spelling of word
5) Analogy
6) Grammar portion
• For Physics, MCQs are from the textbook, conceptual and reasoning questions
• For Chemistry, MCQs are utterly from textbook lines
• For Mathematics, MCQs are from the textbook concepts and formulas
Entry test details:
• Candidates can appear in entry test more than once with the best score considered for the
admission. However, in any one series only one attempt is allowed for a particular discipline.
• NET is compiled from text books prescribed for HSSC courses. Candidates preparing for NET
are advised to consult all relevant text books of various boards of education.
• NET is conducted at three locations, that is Islamabad (NUST Campus), Karachi and Quetta.
• At Islamabad the Test is conducted in computer-based format. In Karachi and Quetta it is in
paper-based format conducted in April & July.
• NUST neither conducts entry test related preparatory activities itself nor provides material in
electronic or printed format for guidance of applicants.

Merit Positions

• Merit Position is meant by arrangement of the NET Candidates according to their aggregates.
As we know that Nust Admission aggregates comprises on 75% of NET marks, 15% of Inter
(Part-1) marks and 10% of Matriculation marks.
• Merit Position is utterly based on the NUST Admission Aggregate. Higher the aggregate is,
higher the NUST merit position will be.
• Higher merit position will help you in securing admission in a well renowned department (i.e.
SMME, SEECS, NICE, SCME, CAE etc).
• Below mentioned are self-predicted ranges of merit positions required for admission to a
specific program as per previous records but merit can be increased or decreased according to
seats availability and average NET marks:
i) For SMME Isb, you must have the minimum aggregate i.e. 79% or more
ii) For EME Rwp (Mechanical Department), you must have minimum aggregate i.e 76% or
more
iii) For CAE. Risalpur (Aerospace Department), you must have minimum aggregate i.e 77% of
more
iv) For SEECS, Isb (Civil Department) , you must have minimum aggregate (i.e 74.5- 76%)
v) For NICE, Isb, you must have minimum aggregate (i.e. 72.5-73.5%)
vi) For Accounting and Finance, BBA
Marks in NET: Aim for 130+
Aggregate: About 69%
vii) For Economics, Public Administration, Mass Communication
Marks in NET: Aim for 120+
Aggregate: About 66%
