Overview
The INT-EX1×6 is a new, wideband distribution amplifier within the INT-EX
Note series of distribution amplifiers. There are two primary applications for this
Input cable equalization and product:
output reclocking are not • It can be used as a standalone, multicelled, one input/six output analog
provided in this product. video (V), digital video (high definition [HS] and standard definition [S]),
and/or AES audio distribution amplifier.
• It can be used in conjunction with multiple Integrator™ routing frames to
create a system that can be operated as a single matrix that is larger than that
possible when using only one frame.
This chapter covers the following topics:
• “Product Description” on page 2
• “Features and Benefits” on page 3
• “Major Components” on page 4
Product Description
Major Components
The INT-EX1×6 wideband distribution amplifier consists of a 2RU frame,
which can be mounted on the front or rear of a standard equipment rack; an I/O
circuit card, which contains the BNCs and distribution circuitry; and a single or
dual power supply. (This product comes with a single power supply as standard
equipment. An optional second power supply provides redundancy.)
The INT-EX1×6 consists of two primary components (excluding the frame):
• INT-EX1×6-MB Analog/digital audio/video I/O module
• EX16-PS2 Power supply module
Input Equalization
The I/O module does not provide input cable equalization.
Power Conversion
The INT-EX1×6 internal power circuitry converts 110 VAC to (±) 5 VDC,
which is then routed to the I/O module.
There are two green LEDs on the front of the power module, one for each
voltage rail. These LEDs indicate that power is present in the frame, but does
not guarantee that all rails are within specified voltage limits.
Power Requirements
The INT-EX1×6-MB I/O module requires +5 VDC and –5 VDC power, which
is provided by the AC-to-DC conversion module.
The chassis safety ground protects equipment users from electrocution in the
event of an electrical catastrophe by providing a direct electrical path from the
equipment chassis to earth ground. Whether the electrical catastrophe takes the
form of an electrical fault within an INT-EX1×6 wideband distribution amplifier
or an external source such as a lightning strike, any potentially lethal voltage
will be diverted away from personnel and directly to earth ground. The
INT-EX1×6 chassis safety ground uses a dual-bolt mount designed to be mated
to a dual-hole compression lug. The dual-hole compression lug is crimped to
stranded wire that is 8 gauge in size, which has its other end securely attached to
the nearest earth ground point.
A power status alarm function is provided via two LEDs and a 3-pin terminal
block alarm port.
• If the voltage regulator output in the module is operating in the normal
range (±0.5V tolerance on each rail [+5V, –5V]) the LED is green.
• If the voltage regulator output in the module goes out of normal range, the
LED is extinguished and a contact closure occurs on the alarm port.
Signal Flow
Overview
This chapter guides you through the installation process. The following topics
are covered:
• “Pre-Installation” on page 10
• “Installing an INT-EX1×6” on page 12
• “Installing an Additional Power Supply” on page 15
• “Using the INT-EX1×6 Distribution Amplifier as 16 Standalone

Physical Dimensions
The INT-EX1×6 requires two units of rack space, that is, 3.5 in. (8.9 cm) of
standard rack space. The depth from the mounting surface is 6.8 in. (17.2 cm)
for an INT-EX1×6 with an AC connector and 7.5 in. (19 cm) with a DC
connector.
The INT-EX1×6 is secured to the rack with standard front-mounting or
back-mounting ears built into the chassis. The steps for mounting a INT-EX1×6
in the front of the rack are outlined under “General Installation Procedures” on
page 12. (When mounting an INT-EX1×6 at the rear of a rack, make sure to
provide adequate space behind the mounting ears, and appropriate clearance for
the connecting cables.)
Installing an INT-EX1×6
Mounting Requirements
The INT-EX1×6 can be mounted in a standard width 19-in. (48.3 cm) rack using
four 10/32 Phillips-head mounting screws. The back of the frame does not need
to be supported. The frame can be mounted in either the front or the rear of the
rack, thereby providing more efficient use of your equipment housing space.
The rack ears can be attached to the frame in either direction, thereby allowing
you flexible mounting options.
CAUTION
Disconnect power from the frame before you remove or
install INT-EX1×6 modules. Removing or installing
modules with power applied may cause serious damage to
system components.
4. Secure the INT-EX1×6 to the rack with the rack screws and washers.
5. Connect all sources to the appropriate input connection on the back panel I/
O module(s).
6. Connect all destinations to the appropriate output connection on the back
panel I/O module(s).
7. If the INT-EX1×6 is to be used in a multiple frame system, connect the
additional frames using the appropriate scheme (X-Y, Ethernet, etc.).
8. Connect one end of the power cord to the receptacle on the rear of the
Note frame, making sure the correct receptacle is used.

9. Connect the other end of the AC power cord to a 110-volt AC source.
CAUTION
We recommend that you test your system before its final
installation. Make sure you verify its configuration,
cabling, and proper system operation.
1. Install each frame, one on top of the other, within your equipment rack.
2. Mount the INT-EX1×6 distribution amplifier(s) in the rear of the rack.
• Expansion modules need to be installed behind the groups of four input
panels on the rear of each frame.
• Adjustable ears on the sides of each expansion module allow adjustable
depth placement of the modules within the rack.
• Make sure you leave enough extra space necessary to connect the
CAB-X+ 15 cables.
2. Slide the second power supply module into the guides on the side of the
opening. (You may feel some resistance as the module reaches the rear of
the frame; this is normal.)
3. Using the two screws you saved, attach the power supply to the frame.

Compliances
Overview
Carefully observe the safety alert symbols below for dangers, warnings, and
cautions. They alert installers and operators of possible dangers or important
information contained in this manual.
Keep in mind, though, that warnings alone do not eliminate hazards, nor are
they a substitute for safe operating techniques and proper accident prevention
measures.
Any user-serviceable components (such as fuses or batteries) are only
replaceable by those components listed in the manual.
IMPORTANT! Only qualified personnel should perform service procedures.
CAUTION

WARNING
Potentially lethal voltages are present within the frame during normal
operation. The AC power cord must be disconnected from the frame before
the top panel is removed. (In frames with multiple power supplies, remove
ALL power cords.) Power should not be applied to the frame while the top
is open unless properly trained personnel are servicing the unit.
Pull out the plug from the main socket before the removal of a cover.

Special Instructions for
Telecommunications Installations
Overview
Integrator products that are designed to operate in a telecommunications
environment must be installed according to the following guidelines:
• Connect this equipment to a 48 VDC source that is electrically isolated from
the AC source. The 48 VDC source must be reliably connected to earth.
• Verify 12 amp fuses are installed at the power inputs of the Integrator as
over-current protection devices in conformance with applicable codes.
• The chassis of the Integrator must be securely connected to earth ground
using eight gauge copper wire. This eight gauge wire must be crimped to
the provided two-hole compression terminal which in turn must be securely
bolted to the dual terminal lugs on the rear of the Integrator chassis. The
other end of the eight gauge copper wire must be securely fastened to earth
ground.
