Of All The Units Mentioned

The document summarizes information about the BH2 Regiment of the Austro-Hungarian army, which received the highest number of gold medals (42) for bravery during World War I. It discusses the regiment's greatest success in breaking the Italian front in July 1916. The regiment was made up mainly of soldiers from western Bosnia and remained the same size from the beginning to the end of the war despite being supplemented 25 times. The document then lists the names of many soldiers from the BH regiments who received gold medals for courage.

Of all the units mentioned, I would like to mention in particular the BH2 Regiment, which received 42

gold medals during the war. This was the highest recognition for bravery in the Austro-Hungarian
army. It is the most decorated unit in the Austro-Hungarian army, and its greatest success was the
breakthrough of the Italian front in July 1916 at Monte Meletta, which later enabled the Austrian
victory. The unit consisted mainly of soldiers from western Bosnia (Bosnian Krajina) and its number
was exactly the same at the beginning and end of the war, except that in the meantime it was
supplemented as many as 25 times with reinforcements from Bosnia. They paid dearly for their
courage and sacrifice. In second place in the number of gold medals was the LIR7 regiment, which
received 36 medals (the regiment also had a recruiting headquarters in Graz).

Gold medals were really gold in the beginning, only later were they made of bronze and gilded. Only
one member of the BH regiments later sold his gold medal. This was Sava Rajlić, who probably sold it
for economic interests (profit).

A slightly thicker book can also be found in the Austrian State Archives, Military Archives, Section 2,
Decoration Group. The pages are already torn, yellow and a little torn. It is the "Golden Book". Book
of Gold Medal Holders for Courage. In this book, every name of the soldier who received the said
medal is handwritten. Among them are very many members of the BH regiments. The list below also
includes quite a few Slovenes, Czechs, Germans, Croats, Hungarians, etc., who were often officers in
these units, while Bosniaks were usually soldiers (infantry). Let these names not be forgotten. These
