This Document explains about how to Apply PUM image fixes/Bugs to the target environment from
PUM source database through Change Assistant.

1. Assumptions

Source PUM Image environment is already deployed and accessible.

For example, Considering image#35,

Login to PUM environment PIA application.

PeopleTools->Lifecycle Tools->Update Manager->About PeopleSoft Image

2. Create a Drectory Structure for Image apply

Before Configuring the Change Assistant for PUM Image bugs apply, create a directory structure for
saving Change Package binaries and logs.

Create a base directory where you want to keep change package and logs.

E:\Image35_Fixes\D09PSHCM

Create a sub directories under base folder to keep change package and logs.

3. Configuring CA for Target Environment

Launch Change Assistant from the installed binaries path

Go to Tools  Options

Change the directories according to target environment paths from General tab.

Under PUM Source tab , make sure to configure the Source database of PUM image details. If it is not
configured, click on Create button from the PUM Source tab and provide all details and create it.

Click on OK .

Upload the target database information with PUM source Database image:

CA Tools  Upload Target Database Information to Image

Click on Create button to add a New target Database

Update target Database information and click on Next

Click Next to proceed further

Click on Next

Verify the target Database details and Click Finish button.

Target Database has been created in CA.

Note: Database details can also be created from CA-> file-> Create new database.

Now, Select Target database from drop down list and Select check box “Proceed to Define or Create a
New Change Package Wizard aftr Target information Upload”.

Click on Next button.

Message will pop-up as below and click OK.

Now Target database details has been successfully uploaded into PUM source database.

4. Defining a New Change Package

To create a Change package click on the highlighted orange button (Click here to open Browser and
Connect to the PUM Source Database). It will launch you to PIA page.

Do not select “Define a New Change Package in Change Assistant”

Click on cancel from below window and proceed to create change package from PeopleSoft PIA page.

Click on Cancel from above screen.

Login to PeopleSoft PIA and navigate to

People Tools Lifecycle Tools  Update Manager  Update Manager Dashboard

Select Target Database

Select Define Change Package tab,-> Click on Update Package

Select Action as Create, Provide the Package Name and Package Description.

Click on Next button.

Select “Standard System Search Criteria”

Click on Next button.

Select “All Updates Not Applied”

Click on Next Button.

Change Package created. You can Review the Bugs/Patches list by reviewing the package definition or
from Change package Utilities options.

Also, You Can you create change package by choosing the Image number between:

Follow the below steps to create Change Package for specific to Image number bug fixes.

Select “All Other Search Criteria”

And click on Next Button.

Select “Prod/Severity/Image”

Click on Next.

Select the Check box “ Image Number”

Select From PI – x and To PI - x and click on “Search For Bugs”

For example, if you need from image 30 to 35, choose accordingly.

It will list out the Bugs from the selected from and To image release.

Click on OK at the bottom of the page.

It will list out the total selected image Bug numbers here.

At this step De-Select the bug patch number if any bug is not required as per the Dev team/Client or
Suggested by Oracle Support.

And make sure the ONLY required patches are selected to proceed further.

Click on OK.

The selected Image bug numbers and count of the bugs will show as like above screen.

Click on Next button.

At this step you will get actual included final count of the Image Bugs and which are bugs are excluded.
Connect with Development team on the bugs selected for the change package.

Clikc on the Next button.

The Change Package is created now and go back to Change Assistant to proceed further.

Change Package has been created.

Consult and review the Change package and bugs count from the Development team.

5. Apply Change Package from CA Tool.

Now go to Change Assistant tool

Tools -> Create Change Package

Select the correct Change package which was created from PUM PIA and select check box “Proceed to
apply change package wizard after package creation” and click Next

Check Download directory. The Change package has been downloaded into download directory. Verify
the change package with Dev team Finally and if everything good, then click on Ok and proceed.

Change package has been created in the download directory.

This is the our GOLD copy. Save this Gold copy from download directory of change package in windows
server under E:\Image35_Fixes\GoldCopy

Use this Gold copy of zip change package for all next applying environments until Production(Make sure
the create test package for each environment and identify the bug count matching with Gold copy and
new created individual environment change package and if both matches, proceed applying).

Apply Type:

1. Select the Apply Type as “Initial Pass” from Demo/Dev environments.

2. Select the Apply Type as “Move To Production” for QA/Prod environments.

Click on Next

Select Target Database from drop down list and click on Next

Proceed if all validations are success and click Next

Click on Finish button if everything correct and Proceeding for Image fixes apply through CA.

Below are the model screenshots of preparing udpates and applying steps from Change Assistant.

Proceed with applying PUM Image Updates now.

Follow the Change Assistant jobs steps as per the steps documentation.

5.1. Create and Apply interim patches.

After applying the Image Bug fixes, at this step if there are any interim patches needs to be applied
followed by Image updates then create Change Package and apply from CA as per the above steps
defined for PUM image bugs change package creation and apply interim patches.

6. Copy New delivered objects to Target application server.

After Completion of Change Assistant job, copy the SQR’s / COBOL’s / Other files to target application
server which is downloaded into staging directory as part of CA steps.

i. Take the backup of sqr,src,cblbin from target environment under PS_APP_HOME

ii. Copy the sqr’s from Staging directory to sqr directory under PS_APP_HOME
iii. Copy Cobol files from Staging directory to src directory under PS_APP_HOME
iv. Copy the other files if there are any required files accordingly.
v. Compile and re-link the Cobol’s initially in Demo environment.
vi. Carry forward the compiled COBOL’s from Demo environment to DEV/QA/PROD to avoid
manual copy/compile issues.
Note: Do the same steps i to vi for interim patches if any applied.

As the application user, run the stored statements in order as shown below on the batch server.
cd /home/psoft
. .profile.<env name>
cd $PS_HOME/bin

psdmtx -CT ORACLE -CD XXXPSHCM -CO PSHCM -CP <SCHEMA PWD> -CI <CONNECT
ID> -CW <CON PASSSWORD> -FP ${PS_HOME}/src/cbl/[Link]

Note: The above psdmtx statements can also be run by running

$PS_HOME/setup/psrun_stored_state.sh on the batch server.

Execute the below script for grants and synonyms.

Remember to run the Grants/synonyms script after migration, if it wasn’t run by psrun_stored_state.sh

Z:\psadmin\Scripts\Scripts_for_Grants_Synonyms\HRMS_fix_gr_syn_demo.sql This script should only be run in

demo. All other databases use Z:\psadmin\Scripts\Scripts_for_Grants_Synonyms\HRMS_fix_gr_syn.sql

7. Verify and Bounce Target application.

To verify the images are applied…login to PIA and navigate to Update manager Dashboard.
