Drug Symposium Narrative
”Drugs can cure, too much can damage”. There are two types of drugs, Regulated and
Prohibited drugs. Regulated drugs are prescribed by the doctors that cure different illness or
diseases and can bring good effects in our body. Prohibited drugs are illegal drugs that may
cause serious damage in physical, mental and emotional aspects of being. Cigarettes, liquors,
nicotine, heroine and rugby are examples of these illegal drugs. Too much intake of these
drugs may also cause brain damage.
Furthermore, teenagers are mostly victims of this issue, especially those living in urban
areas. But the very cause why teenagers take on the trap because of broken homes, lack of
attention and care by their parents that is why they find happiness, comfort and sense of
belongingness in their peer groups. To raise awareness in this issue conducting “Drug
Symposium” may help to minimize and eradicate the problem.
Carpenito Integrated School, Carpenito, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur conducted Drug
Symposium last July 19, 2013 held at Barangay Carpenito gymnasium at exactly 2:00 o’clock
in the afternoon, headed by our CIS school head, Ma. Liza T. Bandola, in cooperation with the
stakeholder Philippine National Police- Special Action Force- Tagongon. P02 Arman F. Ibañez
and PInsp Henrich Lim Lañada from PNP-SAF are the speakers of the said program. The
program started with an invocation by the CIS Chorale and formally opened by Mr. Fritch A.
Paronda, a secondary teacher. The speaker PO2 Arman F. Ibañez had been introduced by Ms.
Mighty Lou Q. Tinambacan, a secondary teacher.P02 Ibañez is a former teacher who is now in
his 11th year of service as policeman. He discussed the two types of drugs, its advantages and
disadvantages in our body. He also added the effects why some young individuals are
motivated to abuse these kinds of drugs; what may trigger them to use these illegal drugs ;
and shared some life facts that students should understand and remember while they’re
young and at the school age.
Furthermore, PInsp Henrich Lim Lañada gave additional information about the
differences of the two types of drugs. He explained very carefully that students should avoid
these illegal drugs mentioned. PInsp Lañada made some encouragement to the students to
pursue education for a better future instead of engaging in using drugs or any illegal
activities. He used to motivate the students to participate by asking question and giving
reward to those who can give the correct answer.
Indeed, the Drug Symposium has successfully ended with the lesson learned by the
CIS teachers and students who participated.
