Lesson
1 Do it Now

Let Us Learn

Hello there! In the previous activity sheets, you were able to learn and use
different body movements. Body movements refer to the actual movement of the
body. It is a kind of nonverbal communication where thoughts, intentions or
feelings are expressed by physical behavior such as facial expressions, body
posture, gestures, eye movement, touch, and use of space.

At this point, together we will learn one of the most important things in
constructing clear and coherent sentences.

In this activity sheet you will be doing different exercises for you to be able
to use and distinguish these things in enriching your communication skills. After
going through this activity, you should be able to:

● identify the present progressive aspects of the verb;

● compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical

structures-present progressive aspects of verb; and
● show willingness in doing assigned task (EN5G-Ia-3.3).

Let Us Try
Are you ready to learn? Before we will start, let us do this activity first.
Write the present progressive aspect of the given verbs on the blanks.

(read) 1. Theo his comic books today.

(join) 2. My brother a local environmentalist group.
(work) 3. Right now, I on my writing assignment.
(swim) 4. They in the pool now.
(cook) 5. Thea breakfast.

b. We are preparing food packs for the front liners.

c. Politeness is listening to the speaker with attention.

d. I am joining your volunteer’s list for the “Heal as One” project.

e. Yannah is searching facts about corona virus.

Let us answer.
Try to take a look with the underlined words in each sentence.

1. What are the underlined words in sentence a, b, c, d, and e?

2. What is the subject in sentence a, b, c, d, and e?

3. What is the helping verb in sentence a, b, c, d, and e ?

4. What do we add to the base form of the verb?

5. What is the -ing form of the verb in sentence a, b, c, d, and e?

2
Let Us Practice

What’s up! Have you learned something from the exercises given? Now, let’s go
back to the sentences given above and let us analyze if how the progressive aspect of
verb is formed in the present tense.
Answer the following questions correctly.

1. What subject noun goes with each helping verb?

2. What subject pronoun goes with each helping verb?

3. What are the helping verbs used in the present tense?

4. Does the action in each sentence is talking about an event that is going on,
now, or at the moment?

5. Does the -ing/ present participle form remains the same whatever the
subject is?

3
Let Us Practice More
Do you find the previous activity confusing or interesting? So, let us
proceed to the next activity which will help you to learn more from this lesson.
Read each sentence carefully. Encircle the correct verb form to be used in each
sentence.

1. I (are reading, am reading) about corona virus disease.

2. My brother (are joining, is joining) a local environmentalist group.

3. He (are looking, is looking) for ways of helping the front liners.

4. The boys (is swimming, are swimming) at the pool now.

5. Winard (is dribbling, are dribbling) the ball around the court.

Let Us Remember
The present progressive tense is the easiest type of
progressive tense. This is because it indicates the action that is
being done in the present. We use present progressive tenses to
express actions that are still in progress. In order to form a
sentence of the present progressive tense, you can use the
following formula.

Subject + is /are/am+ present participle

For example:
Chloe is playing a game.
The cat is jumping on the sofa.

4
The present progressive tense can also be used to
indicate future events with the help of following formula.

Subject + are/am + going + infinitive

For example:

Ashley is going to give her an exam in the morning.

Let Us Assess
Is everything alright? I guess it is already in your mind if what we are
trying to learn on this activity sheet. Complete the paragraph with the correct form of the
verb in the parenthesis. Write your answer on the space provided.

Right now, I (write) on my English

assignment. My brother Kristoff (repair) his bike.
Father (help) him inflate the tires. Great! I have
an idea now. Why don’t I write about driving? I am going to ask my
uncle who is a mechanical engineer. He (work) in a
company that manufactures cars and motorcycles. Uncle Bob surely
knows how a car started. Meanwhile I (write) the
questions that I will ask him.
