Udgam School For Children: Unit-12 Perimeter, Area and Volume

This document is a math notebook entry from a 5th grade student. It covers the concepts of perimeter, area, and volume. It defines area as the amount of space occupied by a figure and provides the formulas for finding the area of a rectangle and square. Examples are given for calculating the area of different shapes. The document also works through exercises finding the area of various rectangles and squares given their dimensions. It solves problems such as finding the area of a square given its perimeter and the cost of spraying pesticide on a field of a given area.

UNIT- 12 PERIMETER, AREA AND VOLUME

EXERCISE: 12.2 (Pg 106)
The amount of space occupied by a figure is called its AREA.
AREA OF A RECTANGLE = LENGTH X BREADTH

LENGTH OF THE RECTANGLE = AREA OF RECTANGLE ÷ BREADTH

BREADTH OF THE RECTANGLE = AREA OF RECTANGLE ÷ LENGTH
AREA OF A SQUARE = SIDE X SIDE

The unit of area is square centimetre (sq. cm)

OR
square metre (sq m)

1. Find the AREA of the rectangles whose lengths and breadths are given
below:
b) Length = 80 cm Breadth = 60 cm c) Length = 24 m Breadth = 15 m

Area of the field = Length x Breadth Do yourself

= 80 cm x 60 cm
= 4,800 sq cm

Ans: AREA of the Rectangle = 4,800 sq cm.

3. Find AREA of the square if each of its side measures

b) Side = 80 cm c) Side 42 m
Do yourself
Area of a square = Side x Side
= 80 cm x 80 cm
= 6,400 sq cm

Ans: Area of the Square = 6,400 sq cm.

SOLVE THE FOLLOWING :

3. The perimeter of a square is 48 m. Find the area of this square.

Solution:
Perimeter of a square = 48 m As the side of the square = 12 m
Side of the square = P ÷ 4 Area of the Square = Side x Side
= 48 m ÷ 4 = 12 m x 12 m
= 12 m = 144 sq m
Side of the square = 12 m

Answer: Area of the square = 144 sq m

4. A field is 10 m long and 10 m broad.

Find the cost of spraying pesticide at the rate of ₹ 7.50 per sq m.

Solution:
Length of a field = 10 m Now Area of the field = 100 sq m
Breadth of the field = 10 m
Cost of spraying pesticide for 1 sq m = ₹ 7.50
Area of the field = Length x Breadth Therefore cost for spraying 100 sq m = ?
= 10 m x 10 m = ₹ 7.50 x 100 sq m
= 100 sq m = ₹ 750
Area of the field = 100 sq m

Answer: Cost of spraying pesticide = ₹ 750

7. Find the length of a rectangular field having an area of 964.20 sq m and breadth
34.60 m.
Solution:
Area of the rectangular field = 964.20 sq m
Breadth of the field = 34.60 m

Length of the field = Area of the field ÷ Breadth

= 964.20 sq m ÷ 34.60 m
= 27.87 m

Answer: Length of the field = 27.87 m
