Deep Sea Anglerfish Species
- Known as the Deep Sea Anglerfish or Humpback Fish
- Part of the Bonefish family
- 200 species exist of the Anglerfish
- Species primarily found in the Atlantic Ocean stretching up to the regions of
Icelandic waters and a little south of Antartica
- Other Anglerfish related to the Deep Sea Anglerfish are: The American
Anglerfish, Hairy Frogfish, Lophius Budegassa
- This species of fish adapts to their environment to hunt their prey
- Large jaws to attack and consume their prey

Appearance
- 8-40 inches
- Can reach up to 110 lbs
- Compressed bodies due to
living in the depths of the ocean

- Its name comes from its fleshy
body along with their luminous
antennas that draw in their prey
- Large Jaws with long teeth that
stretch inward to trap prey
Habitat
- Primarily found off the coast of
Europe in the Atlantic Ocean
extending toward Iceland and
Antarctica
- Live nearly 3,000 feet deep in
the ocean
- Reside in very cold waters
where food is hard to come by

Diet
- The male and female have very different food food consumption methods
- Male feeds as a parasite
- Female hunts as a predator in the deep ocean
- Adapt very well to the barren ocean floor that allows them to be considered
near the top of the food chain
- Large jaw that can allow food twice the size of their bodies to be eaten
- Their fleshy body and luminous bones from their bodies draw prey forward
where they wait patiently and then strike when the time is right
- Ocean floor is very barren so they can go days without eating and practically
eat whatever they can
