1. INSULATION KITS
EDOPEC flange insulation kits offer effective cathodic protection against corrosion
in flanged piping systems. Available in three types (see below), each kit comprises of
one insulating gasket (either an oval ring type joint or flat gasket dependent on
flange type.), one insulating sleeve per bolt, two insulating washers per bolt and two
plated steel washers per bolt.
2. ELECTRICAL ISOLATION
Pipe and fittings should be electrically isolated from all other metal (e.g. casing ,
foreign structures , and rebar in concrete )
3. CHECK AND CLEAN
Remove all the impurities and debris from gasket, fasteners (bolts, studs, nuts) and
washers.
Check all fasteners (bolts, studs, nuts) and washers, make sure they are free of
defects like burrs and cracks.
Check the flange surfaces, make sure they are free of defects which will impact the
seal function of gasket likes warpage, radial scratches and hit marks. Any defects
components should be replaced.

4. ALIGN FLANGES
Make sure the flanges and bolts’ holes coaxial coincide.
Min flange gap is 10 mm.
Insert the gasket parallel and carefully.
Do not use jointing compounds, grease or lubricants with gasket and flange surface.
These compounds can
affect the friction between the gasket and the flange and can lead to premature joint
failure.

5. INSTALLATION
Inspection and observation of installation of the flange isolation kits should be
conducted to ensure the following.
• The installation kits contain the material specified, and the contents are not
damaged.
• Flanges are free of pits , gouges , rust , debris , oil and grease .Surface finish
should be no greater than 250 RMS (Root mean squared or roughness average )
.Flange faces sho9ld be refinished if corrective measures do not meet the
foregoing
• The flange and bolt hole spot facing do not have burrs, etc.
• When the installation sleeves are inserted, they are net forced into the holes
which could damage the sleeve material
• A nonconductive lubricant is applied to all threads and flange side of nuts.
• Tightening of the bolts is in accordance with manufacturer’s requirement, the
following criteria, and as shown in figure 1.
o Bolts should be tightened with torque wrenches (mechanical and
hydraulic ) or with a stud tension measuring devices
o Initially cross-tighten bolts until flange to gasket contact has been made
o Tighten all bolts initially to10-15 percent of specified torques
o Then , tighten all bolts to 50 percent of specified torque
o Finally, tighten all bolts to 100 percent of final torque value flanges having
more less bolts
o It is always a good policy to go completely around flange , checking bolt to
bolt for proper torques , particularly on large diameter piping system
• Bolts of sufficient length to extend through the nut approximately ¼” inc

Please use calibrated torque wrench or other tool which have control functions.
Be installed in accordance with the recommended torque.
Tighten the nut always in accordance with the symmetrical cross drawing.
Apply bolt lubricant to the bolt and nut threads and to the face of nut to be
tightened, assembly the steel washer, insulation washer and insulation sleeve to the
bolts by turn (make sure the steel washer always close to the nut) Insert the bolts
holes. No force used (like hammer), it will damage the sleeves. Please check the
alignment of flange surface and size of sleeve if installation it’s difficult.
Put insulator washer, steel washer and nut into bolts on another side of flange.
Tighten all the bolts until the flange meet the gasket.
