SECTION-C
This section has 02 case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub-questions (a, b
and c). Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has been provided in part c.
14 MOLE CONCEPT 4
The mole is the amount of substance of a system which contains as many
elementary entities as there are atoms in 0.012 kg of carbon -12 isotopes. Its symbol is
mol. When the mole is used, the elementary entities must be specified and may be atoms,
molecules, ions, electrons, other particles or specified groups of such particles. This
number of entities in 1 mol is so important that it is given a separate name and symbol. It
is known as ‘Avogadro constant’, denoted by NA.

c. Calculate the number of hydrogen atoms present in 0.25 moles of hydrogen gas?
(2Marks)
OR
How many molecules of water are present in 36 grams of water?
15 MALARIA 4
Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite. The parasite is spread to humans
through the bites of infected mosquitoes. People who have malaria usually feel very sick
with a high fever and chills. To reduce malaria infections, world health programs
distribute preventive drugs and insecticide –treated bed nets to protect people from
mosquito bites. The WHO has recommended a malaria vaccine for use in children who
live in countries with high numbers of malaria cases.
a. Name the causative agent and vector of malaria? (1 Mark)
b. Roshni visited her friend suffering from malaria. What are the chances of her
contracting the disease? (1 Mark)
c. Explain how body reacts after the entry of microbes in the body? (2 Marks)
OR
What precautions can you take in your school to reduce the incidence of infectious
diseases?
