Oscillations Test

1. A particle executing simple harmonic motion (SHM) with an amplitude of 4 cm and a time period of 12 seconds. The ratio of time taken to travel from the mean position to 2 cm and from 2 cm to the extreme position is calculated. 2. A spring-mass system is described where the mass m is attached to a spring of negligible mass and constant k. The mass is pulled and released to execute SHM. The time period of oscillations of this system is derived. 3. The differences between undamped, damped, free and forced oscillations are explained. Undamped SHM does not experience any resistance forces. Damped oscillations experience resistance forces that cause the amplitude to decrease over time.
