The document discusses Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), which is a measurement used in Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance programs. OEE seeks to answer three questions about machine performance: availability, performance, and quality. The formula for calculating OEE multiplies availability, performance, and quality scores. An example OEE calculator is provided to demonstrate how data on availability, performance, and quality can be entered to calculate an overall OEE score.

In Lean Six Sigma, OEE stands for Overall Equipment Effectiveness, and is generally considered to refer to a
measurement in “Total Productive Maintenance” programs. The measure looks at effectiveness and efficiency of
machinery or processes and is commonly referred to in reference to Lean Manufacturing. OEE seeks to answer
three machine performance related questions:
- How often is the machine available to run?
- How fast does it run when it’s running?
- How many acceptable parts were produced in the allotted time?

The formula used to calculate OEE is as follows: OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality
