“Before we go on to the next topic, let us
first review what we learned a day before."
“Now, who can tell us what we talked about “Ma’am!”
yesterday?”
“All right, !” “Our lesson yesterday was all about
sentences!”
“Very good Now, who can give me “Ma’am!”
a definition of a sentence?”
“yes !” “A sentence is a set of words that is complete
in meaning. A sentence can have both a
subject and a predicate!”
“Very good Now, who can give me “Ma’am!”
an example?”
“Yes ? please give us example of a "Sara is gorgeous!"
sentence”
“Alright, thank you. So now, who can tell us “Ma’am!”
the subject and predicate of the sentence
according to the example was given.”
“Yes !” The subject in the sentence is “Sara” and the
predicate is “…is gorgeous ma'am!”
“Great job, everyone! It appears that you
thoroughly reviewed our lectures “Yes, Ma’am!”
yesterday.”
II. Motivation
“Before we begin our discussion, I have
some images for you to evaluate. I'll ask you
some questions once you've analyzed the
pictures.”
A B
“In picture A, I see that the girl is dancing. In
“What do you see in the picture?” picture B, I see that the boy is singing,
ma’am”
“Okay, very good!”
“So, class, I want you guys to create a “Ma’am!”
sentence using the picture in letter A and
letter B. Who wants to give it a try?”
“Yes !” “The ballerina taught us dancing”
“All right! How about in the next picture?” “Raff express himself by singing”
“Okay, very good!”
III. Lesson Proper
A. Discussion
“So, based on the images, do you have any “Yes, Ma’am!”
idea what our topic for this afternoon?"
“Okay, so what do you think our lesson for “I think it has something to do with physical
today?” activities ma'am"
"Nice try, how about the others?" "Ma'am, I think it is related to an action that
is happening"
"That's good. Any other idea ______?" "About gerund ma’am?”
"Very good! Now, class, I want all of you to
pay attention to me as we move on with “Yes, Ma’am!”
our discussion, and I want everyone to
participate. Is that clear?"
“Ma’am!”
“All right! First, could someone kindly read
the definition of gerund on our PowerPoint
presentation?”
“A gerund is a form of a verb that ends in -
“Yes ?”
ing that is used as a noun. A verb is a word
that refers to actions or states of being, and
a noun is a word that use to refer to people,
places, things, and ideas.”
“Okay, thank you! So, class, A gerund is a
word that combines verbs and nouns. It
seems to be a verb, yet it functions as a
noun. Gerunds are considered as third-
person singular nouns in sentences.”
“To make a verb into a gerund, just add -ing
to the basic form of the verb. However,
there are a few elements to keep in mind
while creating a gerund:
-When a verb ends in -ee, add -ing, for
example, agreeing, escaping, and seeing.
-If a verb finishes in -ie, use –y before the -
ing, like in lying (lie), tying (tie), and dying
(die).”
"So, class do you understand what a gerund “Yes, Ma’am!”
is and how to apply this in a sentence
now?"
"All right, to know whether you understood
our lesson for today I have here 5 gerund
examples for you to use in a sentence."
1. Swimming
2. Running
3. Jogging
4. Playing
5. Reading
“Ma’am!”
“Who wants to give it a try?”
“Swimming is my favorite sport, ma’am”
“Yes ?”
“Ma’am!”
“Okay, very good! Now, who can use
Running in a sentence?”
“She made running her routine, ma’am”
“Yes ?”
“Ma’am!”
“All right. How about the word jogging?”
“My favorite sport is jogging, ma’am”
“Yes ?”
“Ma’am!”
“Okay! next?”
“The girls were playing with cat, Ma’am”
“Yes ?”
“Ma’am!”
“I enjoy reading”
“Okay! Lastly the word reading”
"Well done, class; it looks that you have all
absorbed today's lessons. But first, I would
like to remind you guys that Gerunds are “Yes, Ma’am!”
not the only verbal cues that may end in "-
ing," so be sure that the word you choose
acts as a noun in the phrase. Is that
clear class?”
B. Generalization
“So now, I want to hear what you have “I learned that the gerund is as regular as an
learned about the topic we discussed today element of speech that we all use daily,
in one or two sentences. Anybody?” whether we realize it or not.”
“All right. What else? Anyone?" “Gerunds are words that begin with a verb
but function as nouns. They're simple to
detect because every gerund is a word with
ing added to the end.”
“Very good! Okay then, give us an “Ma’am for example, "dance" becomes
example.” "dancing," and "sing" becomes "singing."
“Good job everyone! It seems that you “Yes, Ma’am!”
really learned from our discussion this
afternoon.
C. Application
“To expand and test your understanding of
our lesson. We will conduct a short activity. “Yes, Ma’am!”

that show on our screen. But before that, I
would like you to read it first and then
answer it. Is that clear, class?”
“Ma’am!”
“Who would like to read?”
“My friend Alfonso enjoys cooking. He also
really likes eating. But one month ago, his
“Yes ?”
girlfriend told him to lose weight, so he
decided to join a gym. In the beginning, it
was difficult to go regularly. He tried to
go every day, but sometimes he forgot to go.
Yesterday, he drank beer with me instead
of exercising. He prefers drinking alcohol
to lifting weights, of course. His girlfriend
called him when we were at the pub. He
stopped drinking his beer to answer the
phone. He promised to be home by 10 p.m.
However, we kept drinking until we ran out
of money.”
“All right, thank you!”
“So, class, could you tell me the gerund “Ma’am!”
word that you noticed based on what you
have read on our PowerPoint
presentation?”
“Ma’am the 3 Gerund words are Cooking,
“Yes ? Could you give us at Eating and exercising”
least 3 gerund words that you see on the
screen?”
“Very good. So, who can give me the rest of ‘Ma’am!”
the gerund words that appear on the
screen? They are still two gerund words in
there. Could you please tell us what those
are?”

Lifting, Ma’am!”
“Yes ?”
“Okay, good job, guys! Your responses are
