Create a Virtual Machine

Lab Details:
1. In this lab you will learn how to create an Azure Virtual machine using Window
Server 2019 Datacenter image, connect to virtual machine using RDP.
2. Duration: 00:30:00 Hours

Tasks:
1. Sign to Azure Portal.
2. Create an Azure Virtual Machine.
3. Understand deployment details.
4. RDP into the virtual machine
5. Test the created virtual machine.

Steps:

Task 1: Login to Azure Portal


1. If you have logged into any other Azure Account from previous labs or your
own account, please logout of it.

2. Click on the   button.


3. Once the lab creation process is completed, you can see
your username and password.
4. Open a browser tab in incognito mode. Go to the Azure portal by clicking on

the   button or by using URL https://portal.azure.com in


incognito mode.
o Note: It is recommended to use incognito mode to avoid Azure portal
cache related issues.
5. If it automatically logs into any other azure account, please logout of it and
clear cache.
6. Sign in with your given username and password on azure portal.
7. If login is not working. Click and End Lab and start the lab again.

Task 2: Create Virtual Machine


1. Navigate to Virtual machines page by clicking on the Virtual machines menu
in the Left panel or by searching in the search bar at the top.
2. If you see any error in the page, Please wait for 2 minutes and refresh the
page.
3. Click on Add Button(+)
3. Basic
o Subscription: Leave it default selected.
o Resource Group: Choose Resource Group Name provided in
dropdown. 
 Ex: resourcegroup_123456
o Virtual Machine Name: Enter a VM name. 
 Ex: MyVM
o Region: Choose Region (US) East US
o Availability Options:Leave availability zone as default
o Image:Choose Image - Window Server 2019 Datacenter - Gen1
o Size:Choose Vm Size - Standard DS1 v2
o Configure ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT
 Enter Username
 Ex: rashmi
 Enter Password & Confirm Password (Password should follow
the format given in Azure)
o Configure INBOUND PORT RULES
 Public inbound ports : Choose Allow selected ports
 select inbound rule HTTP, SSH And RDP from dropdown.
o Already have Window licence choose No
o click on Next:Disks >
3. Disks
o OS disk Type: Select Standard SSD
o DATA DISKS: Leave it as default.
o ADVANCED: Leave it as default.
o Click on Next:Networking >
4. Networking
o Leave Networking as default, no need to change anything.
o Click on Next:Management >
5. Management
o Monitoring : 
 Boot diagnostics : Choose off
o Leave Other Management option as default, no need to change
anything.
o Click on Next:Advanced >
6. Advanced
o Leave Management as default, no need to change anything.
o Click on Next:Tags >
7. Tags
o Tags: You can add tag in Name/Value pair as per your understanding.
 Name : vm
 Value : labvm
o Click on Next:Review + Create >
8. Next:Review + Create
o If you see this "Validation passed" message on top of the screen, that
means you have configured the virtual machine successfully or if
you see any error message, then you need to review the given
above again.
o Click on Create > Button
9. Now you can see message Deployment is in progress:
o You can see all the resources related to virtual machines being
created.
o Wait until your virtual machine creation is completed.
o You can click on Refresh button on top periodically to check the
updates.
o Once you see the message Your deployment is complete,your virtual
machine ready to use.
o You can Expand Deployment Details to see all the Azure Resources
that got created. Understand all the resources that got created.
 MyVM         : New Windows Virtual machine
 myvm429      : Network Interface 
 myVM-nsg      : Network Security Group
 myVM-ip      : Public Ip Address
 resourcegroup_9192825-vnet: Virtual Network
o You can click on Operation Details to see the further details on each
resource.

Task 3: RDP into Virtual Machine


1. Click on   Button, or Go to Virtual Machine section from the
left panel menu.
2. You can see your virtual machine in the list, just click on it and you can see
virtual machine details on your screen.

3. Click on the   button, and select RDP. you can see your RDP
connection details.

4. Windows PC: 
o If you are a windows user, Download RDP file from button Download
RDP File.
o Connect to your virtual machine with your
administrator username and password which you entered while
creating the virtual machine.
5. Linux or MAC PC: 
o If you are using a Linux or MAC PC, you need to download RDP
software and install.
o Once installed Open the software and click on Add PC 
o Connect your virtual machine using public IP Address and click
on Add.
o Right click and open the PC, Enter username and password in the pop
up and click on COntinue in all further popups.
6. After successful login on the virtual machine, wait until Windows boots and is
ready to use.
o If you see this POP message Do you want to allow your PC to be
discoverable by other PCs and devices on this network? just click
on Yes
7. Now your Virtual Machine is ready to use.
8. Windows system has Opened.
9. You can look around inside new Windows Virtual Machine.
    

Completion and Conclusions


1. You have successfully logged into Azure Portal.
2. You have successfully configured and created a windows virtual machine.
3. You have successfully made an RDP connection into a new virtual machine
that you created.

End Lab
1. You have successfully completed this lab.
2. Click on Logout in Azure Portal by clicking on the logout button in the top
right corner inside Azure Profile.

3. Click on   once you have completed the Lab.
