First Term Exam

Part one: Reading (15pts)

Read the text then do these activities

I wanted to know the reasons behind pupils’ cheating at tests and exams. That’s why I conducted a survey. I
questioned fifty pupils who were aged between fifteen and eighteen.

I asked them why they cheated at their tests and exams. I found four main reasons led these pupils to cheat.
To begin with, eighteen of them told me they cheated because they work in their free time. So, their jobs leave
no time for revision. Besides, fifteen of the teenagers said they did not attend all the sessions for they were ill.
They spent most of their trimester time at hospitals. In addition, twelve of them replied they had more than one
test per day. As a result, they revised for one test and cheated in others. Finally, not understanding teachers’
explanations was the answer of five of them. Thus, tests and exams’ questions were unclear and difficult for
them.

The findings showed that pupils had different reasons to cheat. Their answers seemed to be excuses to
justify cheating as if they had the right to do that. In spite of that, they cannot erase the reality that it is
unethical and cheaters of today can be thieves of tomorrow.
