Assignment :

Write an essay about your respective barangays. In not less than 500 words, describe your barangay, it’s
people, environment and other factors that each have in common.

A barangay is the smallest administrative division in the Philippines and is the native Filipino term for a
village, district or ward. Our barangay, Brgy. Catablan is one of the largest barangay in Urdaneta City
Pangasinan with a population of not lesser than 6000. According to some elders in our community, It is
called "Catablan" because ancient people in our barangay before were producing "tabla" or a type of
wood that commonly used in making furniture or building houses. Our barangay is in the boundary of
Urdaneta City and Sta. Barbara Pangasinan. Also, it has two sitios, Sitio Nanbacuran and Sitio Calegu.
There are two very attractive places/spots in our barangay that we are really proud of, these are "Little
Dubai" and "Little Baguio". Almost all young people who studied or lived in Catablan has a unforgettable
memory with their classmates and friends to these places. There's a sanitary landfill and factory located
in our barangay, these gives jobs or source of living to many people in our barangay and even outside of
our barangay. There are also other establishments like churches, schools, day care center and barangay
health center, all these establishments are very beneficial to the people in our barangay and to the
barangay itself. People in our barangay utilized vehicles like motorcycle, tricycle, car, jeep, bus and
trucks for the transportation. There are some who used bicycles too. And because Filipino families are
known for having a strong and close family ties, families in our barangay are commonly lived in nuclear,
joint and extended family structure. Every member of the family place a hight regard and put
importance to their family before anything else. And because our barangay has a large green farm lands,
agriculture or farming is one of the most common source of living of many families. People in the
community are also joining whenever there is a Barangayanihan activities like cutting grasses, cleaning
their own backyards and planting vegetables that will be beneficial for all. This simple barangayanihan
made us closer to each other that we know almost our fellow constituents in our barangay. Going home
or out at night is not problem in our barangay. Our barangay tanods and other officials of barangay are
often patrolling every night. Many people in our barangay are also familiar and close to their
neighborhoods and other people in the community. However, there no perfect barangay. I can't say
that we have a fresh air in our barangay because the sanitary landfill often gives us an annoying smell,
and many people in our barangay are still not aware to the effects of this problem to their personal
health. There are also some complains for having a dark streets at night due to lack of street lights. But
despite of these problems in our barangay, one thing that we all have in common is that our barangay
gave a big impact in our beliefs, the way we see things and we respond to different challenges
individually or as one barangay. Our barangay, Catablan has a big part of who we are as an individual
inside or outside in the community.
