INTRODUCTION
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular
way: on purpose, in the present moment, and
nonjudgmentally.”- Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness is defined as “increased, purposeful, nonjudgmental
attention to the present moment."
Mindfulness training has been used in the medical field to help people
cope with stress and anxiety, and it's becoming more popular among
businesses and organizations.
Mindfulness-based strategies have recently been promoted as a useful
tool for educators looking to improve students' educational experiences
as well as their cognitive and social-emotional development, which can
lead to improved academic outcomes.
Teachers in schools across the country are embracing mindfulness-based
interventions (MBIs), and some studies show that after a few weeks of
practicing mindfulness, students are more caring and focused.
In many schools, mindfulness practices are used to address students’
anxiety and depression, as well as to help them build coping skills and
positive mindsets

MINDFULNESS
IN THE
CLASSROOM
Mindfulness is defined as "the openness and curiosity with which we
maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, emotions,
bodily sensations, and surrounding environment."
Mindfulness practises primarily cultivate attention, as well as self-
awareness and self-knowledge of one's thoughts, feelings, and sensations,
as well as how they affect one's actions.
Mindfulness is a promising method for teaching educators and students
self-awareness and self-regulation skills that are linked to academic and
adult success.
Our workshop started with breathing exercises followed by Gyan mudra
for another 10 mins and mediattaion.
5
Meditation is a simple process with only three "rules." First, find a
location and a posture that allows you to relax without falling asleep.
Second, focus on your breathing while inhaling and exhaling. Third, be
patient with yourself; this is a skill that requires practise.
Furthermore, mindfulness skills, such as self-awareness and self-
management, are beneficial to social and emotional learning. Teachers
play a critical role in fostering student learning and social-emotional
well-being in the classroom. Teaching, on the other hand, can be
stressful, and managing classroom dynamics can be difficult. Teaching
as a profession is plagued by significant turnover, which is frequently
attributed to burnout, with documented rates of teacher turnover
increasing in public schools over the last decade.
Advantages for Teachers and Students
There is an emerging evidence base demonstrating the benefits of
mindfulness for people of all ages in domains related to physical and
mental health, as well as education.
For example, providing teachers with mindfulness and other stress
management skills may be associated with significant increases in job
6
satisfaction, as well as self-regulation, self-compassion, and skills such
as observation, nonjudgment, and the ability to be nonreactive.
Teachers who are "calm, clear, and kind" may create more
compassionate environments for students. Given the demanding nature of
the school classroom, as well as epidemic levels of teacher burnout,
effective stress management by educators can benefit students as well.

LEARNING
OUTCOME
Mindfulness has advantages for both your psychological and physical
health. Some advantages are:
• lowered anxiety
• reduced depression
• increased coping abilities decreased irritability and moodiness
• improved learning and memory increased happiness
• increased emotional stability improves problem-solving ability
• increased self-esteem
Mindfulness-based practices offer promise as a tool for enhancing
teaching quality, which may, in turn, promote positive student outcomes
and school success.

CONCLUSION
Mindfulness and meditation practise raises awareness and appreciation
for the people and things that matter. Managing internal thoughts and
observing emotions without passing judgment helps educators begin to
"ow with" their regular stressors, which can lead to a slew of additional
benefits, including less stress in students. Mindfulness practice supports
intentionality in teachers because "being present allows us to recognize
these 'teachable moments' and take advantage of them to enhance
learning and see the bigger picture."
