A Gospel Message of Hope
Elder G. T. Haywood at the Apostolic Faith Assembly, Indianapolis, Ind., delivered this
sermon during a Sunday morning service in April, 1922.
_____________
We wish to call your attention to the third chapter of Romans, beginning at verse I,
"What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every
way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God." That is, the
first opportunity to know God. The law of the Ten Commandments was given to them.
God had committed unto their trust the oracles of God, and gave them that they might
bring the light of God to the world. And although they failed their God, yet His purpose
went forward. Even though some did not believe, "shall their unbelief make the faith of
God without effect?" Man's unbelief does not change God's word, nor stop Him from
working out His purpose.
The word of God is true whether the people believe it or not. God will bring Salvation
near. It makes no difference what you say, or what I may say, "God hath said." Our God
can work while we are sleeping. And when we are folded away like a garment in our
graves, God will still be working. If one man or one people fails God, He will take up
another and move on. God brought Israel out and made them a great people, through a
man who was only a shepherd of the plains of Midian and not a warrior, but could speak
words of wisdom by the spirit of God words, which even to this day have astonished the
world. God sent His Word from heaven unto this people, arid walked in the midst of
them with mighty signs and wonders showing His mighty arm. And yet they failed God
through their unbelief.
The Lord had no people He could trust. So He declared He would "take a people who
are not a people and make them a people of God." He did this to prove that He does not
have to depend on any nation or individual. God Himself never failed" and could not fail.
Even the prophets He ordained became weak along the line and were filled with fear, or
took honor to them- selves. "The priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink,
they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in
vision, they stumble in judgment." (Isa. 28:7.)
What if man does not believe the Gospel as it is laid, down in the Book ? The Gospel is
true regardless of his unbelief. I believe in the Blood of JESUS CHRIST, and that
without shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. But the question is: how shall I
get the remission ? One may say, "I will just believe." But to "believe" means more than
to just say "I believe," Matt. 26 :28 says.
If any people start out with the power of God in their midst and become full of pride and
lose their spirituality, God will put them aside and take up another. And if the latter fails,
He will set them aside and take up still another. I am satisfied that God does not depend
2
upon any of us to carry His work through, but we are compelled to depend upon Him for
without Him we can do nothing.
"For this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of
sins." Jesus was the greatest preacher the world has ever known, and turned the
preaching of the Gospel over to Peter as though He said, "You are next, Peter. You
shall begin where I leave off." And that preacher in Acts 2:38 said: "Repent, and be
baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." That is the way the Holy Spirit gave it out on the
day of Pentecost. In those days the people were always baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins that they might receive the Holy Spirit, which was God's
witness to their faith.
What is the Holy Ghost ? He is a witness to your having received remission of sins. That
is what the Apostle said: "There are three that bear witness in the earth, the Spirit, the
water and the blood." He did not say one was any greater than the other. All three of
them are required to make one witness. Many people look at water alone, but the
proper thing to do is to see the name in which it is administered. Take away the blood,
and you have nothing but faith. Take away the water and you make Jesus a liar. The
Bible, in the first epistle of John, tells us plainly, "This is He which came by water and
blood; not by water only, but by water and blood." And that, "it is the Spirit that bearth
witness." I do take notice of this much: there was so much authority in the command of
JESUS to baptize, that neatly all the churches (with a few exceptions) try in some way
to administer it, if it only be the dipping the finger in the water. But if it is worth doing at
all, it is worth doing rightly. However, a man's failure to believe does not change the
Word of God. You can scarcely join a church in the city without some mode of baptism.
There are about as many ways as there are human minds, and all for the lack of
following the mind of the Spirit.
The reason some people do not live holy is because they have not been taught it and
have been brought up wrongly. But you start a man or woman believing the Word of
God, and you can bring them out on the Word. Our experiences are so varied that it
does not pay to attempt to tell others about it, for they will try to get our experience
instead of what is written in the Book. I do not want anybody to be able to rise and say
the Word of God is not true. There has always been some- body filled with the Spirit,
ever since the day of Pentecost. God has never left Himself without witness. No doubt
some did not know just what they had. Luther had it. Wesley, Finney and Fox had it;
and they had a hard, severe trial in their days.
We want God to be justified. We have not a thing to boast of this day. There is false
holiness and true holiness. The true, is the Holy Ghost in you; and the false, is human
efforts without God; self-righteousness. If we acknowledge our own failures God will
give us His power to overcome day by day. God does not get behind a man 'with a whip
and drive him to heaven, but He fixes it up so you "will" follow Him because you love
Him.
3
Who is it that never did sin? Paul shows the whole human family had sinned, and if all
sinned, all were condemned. But God had mercy. We could not help but sin. We were
born that way. But God said, "You must be born again." And no newborn child walks
perfectly at once. First they crawl, then they totter and fall. But they do not keep falling.
By this I mean that a man or woman who is filled with the Holy Ghost and starts out to
walk with Jesus Christ, may stumble and fall at first, but don't. get discouraged if the
devil tries to trip you up. God will help you. He is able to keep you from falling, says
Jude. I am talking about those who have it in their hearts to live for Christ. Do not let any
failure daunt your courage. You know God is able to carry you through. Many have
found it to be so.
If God brings judgment upon a sinner for his wrongdoing, some will charge Him with
injustice. But how can God then judge the world? God said He would give us a light for
our path, and put His angels around us, and give us a pattern in Jesus, and place His
Spirit within us. Brother, I would be ashamed to tell God I could not live right with all that
help! And then folks will try to tell you, "You can't make it, Brother!" So we are going to
commend the righteousness of God, by acknowledging-"O Lord, we are all failures."
It is the grace of God that is able to sustain and up- hold any man or woman who
desires to be kept by the Power of God. There are people who desire to boast
of themselves and never have had a change of heart. And some even go so far as to
say, "1 am all right. I am good enough. 1 don't need that Holy Ghost." I don't care if you
did not steal, drink, or commit adultery--it is in your heart anyhow! Everybody needs the
power of God. Good works never did save anybody. It takes the "power of God unto
salvation." I am not telling a moral man to get worse in order to get saved. No! I am
telling him there is no condition so bad but that God has grace to save us from it.
You cannot make men righteous by legislation. "Yes must be born again." God says to
the church "preach the word" and make a fertile spot in the terrible desert of sin, that
men may see the water of life along the side of the road. No law can make you live
right. God Almighty tried it Himself with the children of Israel, and the Word says, "What
the law could not do, Christ did." (Rom. 8:3.) But do you know when a man be- comes
saved he will keep the spirit of the law? There is no law against attending to your own
business, paying all your debts, and no law against praying. Do right, and bless God,
and pray without ceasing. No law is against doing that which is just and good. (Gal.
5:22,23.)
Many homes have been torn asunder. Sorrow and mourning drapes the human heart
because of sin. I dislike to hear some people talk because of their disgraceful
utterances. But let God get into their hearts and then note the change. Everybody
without Christ is guilty. Had God Almighty demanded justice, every living person would
have been dead, and brought before the judgment bar to give an account of their
misspent lives. The only thing that is going to save a man in the power of God. I am
talking about genuine salvation, too! You can go any place and hear everything else but
the Gospel of salvation. But men shall be saved. That is our whole service-to "save
men." The church is ordained for that purpose.
4
God sums up the whole human family and declares that it is "full of wounds, bruises and
putrefying sores." To tell a man he should not steal, or covet, or commit adultery is not
enough. Tell him how to get saved so he will not do those things. The power of God can
save anybody that will believe, The god of carnality has certainly got some folks fast.
But 0, I am so glad I am saved! Saved by the power of God! It is wonderful to be God's
free man, delivered from the power of the pride of life, the lusts of the eye, and the lusts
of the flesh, It does not make any difference whether a man is old or young, rich or poor,
black or white or bro\,n, just so he believes. If you have never been to school] to learn a
letter, you can "believe." I am satisfied that you do not have to have eyes to believe.
You do not have to be able to speak to "believe." You may have both hands cut off, but
still you can "believe." If you cannot hear, somebody will write, or make signs and you
can "believe." You do not have to weigh so many hundred pounds or write letters, or
understand the Bible to get saved. All God said was to "believe." Why, Jesus paid it all!
The people that are saved to- day are people that "believed" the Gospel. And you do
not believe God if you do not obey Him! I will prove it to you, too. "Show me your faith
without your works, and I will show you my faith (without saying a word) by my works!" It
is not merely saying, "I believe" it is proving your belief. If you actually believe then you
know what Jesus was talking about when He said, "He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved," and prove it by your actions. Jesus declared, "except a man be born of
water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God." (John 3:5-7.) If you do
not obey, then you do not believe.
God has fixed the matter so you need make no mistake about it, either. Too many jump
over the fifth verse of the third chapter of John's Gospel. Moreover, Jesus stated
emphatically that He "testified of that which He had seen; and spake that which He did
know" (John 3:11), and this is what He spoke: "I know that if a man be not born of water
and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God." If you have never been
baptized in the name of JESUS CHRIST, you have never been immersed properly. This
is the only name under heaven given among men whereby they must be saved. If you
repent deeply enough in your heart, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, I will
guarantee that you shall receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost as you "come up out of
the water."* If people do not believe God's Word they never get His best. Even if you do
not understand, you must believe, before you can "see" the Glory of God.

Jesus, The Mighty God
Published By:
In the city of Bethlehem of Judea a child was born which stirred the world and brought
the wise men from the East. Old Herod tried to kill him, but the child went down into
Egypt and returned when Herod was dead. This is the "child" that is mentioned in Isaiah
9:6, as being born unto us. And the "Son was given" unto us at the anointing at Jordan
river. He went on and on through the way of the cross and left us His name, and this
Name has become "Wonderful". The Apostles took the Name as their "Counselor" and
He was a Wonderful Counselor.
There is not a man on the earth who has not sinned. And because of the fact that there
was none good, God became one that was "good." "God is good and doest
good." Jesus said to the young ruler, "Why do you call me good? There is none good
but one, and that is God." Do you not believe that jesus was good? He was that One
then. He called himself a certain Samaritan, and He was certainly a "good" Samaritan.
He saw mankind wounded and He came away over on his side and had compassion on
him and paid the debt and turned him over to the Holy Ghost to take care of him. He
paid two pence, redeeming him from the curse of the law, and from sin; and the third
pence is to be the redeemption of our bodies. Truly He was a "good" Samaritan and He
is still doing good.
Many people are going to heaven, they think. But they are not. Many think they are
saved, but they are not. I want you to know that Jesus is God. The only God that ever
will be or can be. I have never seen Jesus, but He is here. He is the invisible God. His
personal baody is the image of the invisible God. We have not seen His visible body.
God is a Spirit, so I worship Him is Spirit, and I worship him in truth. The Bible declares
that Jesus Christ was the creator of heaven and earth. The first chapter of colossians,
verses sixteen and seventeen, tell you this plainly saying that "By Him were all things
created." He is before all things, therefore, all men should fear Him. The God that knows
how many grains of sand lie on the sea shore, and that telleth the very number of each
hair of your head; He that weighs the mountains in scales and looks upon the nations as
a drop of a bucket, and taketh up the islands as a very little thing and considers the
people of the earth as grasshoppers - I tell you, men had better fear Him!
God made us. In Him we live and move and have our being. If God were to command
you to come into judgment you wouldfold up your arms and silently steal away. You had
better fear Him. People cast you into the ground with the rest of the dust when you
breath is gone, and yet you will boast yourself! Why, there is not a thing a continuation
of Adam and Eve. The same in any of us. All flesh is grass, even as one of the modern
poets has said, "a rag, and a bone, and a bank o' hair."
6
We want reality. Gos Almighty told Ezekiel to eat the whole book. God put on a "diving
suit" and dropped down here into these troubled waters and mud, and found a pearl of
great price. God made a body and then cameinto it. Some people will say, "Don't call
Him God." Well, who else is He? Many will be surprised in that day to find only "One
sitting on the throns." Isaiah 54:5, tells the church that "Thy maker is thy husband, the
God of the whole earth shall He be called." The Bridegroom of the church shall be
called "The God". And Jesus is the Bridegroom. I love Him and I will give Him all the
honor and glory due unto his name. He is all and in all to me. If Jesus Christ according
to Matthew first chapter, and the twenty-third verse is to be called, "God with us", or
Emmanuel, then He is notonr of the gods but God" with us. John saw just one in the
midst of the seven golden candlesticks. And when he saw Him he fell as one dead at
His feet. But he received a "right hand" blessing and God raised him up and said, "I am
He that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore." So God took John off
of the Isle of Patmos and he sat down and wrote, "I was on the Isle" and said, "The
Word was God." "He was in the world and the world was made by Him, and the world
knew Him not. He that made everything came down to visit the things that He had
made. And He has said, "I am coming again" too. Alleluia!Jesus is God. I care not if you
cannot understand it - Jesus is God!!!! The Word of God does not talk of the "first God."
"the second God," or "the third God," but "The Mighty GOD, He shall be called." O,
beloved, there is a great day coming! A mighty time time is on now. I don't whether it is
gold, brass or iron, if you worship that thing, it is your God. But I want the world to know
that I worship Jesus. The angels must worship Him. Every knee must bow to Him.Every
man that ever breathed must fall protrate at Jesus' feet and acknowledge that He is
Lord of lords and LORD OF ALL! I know Whom I have believed. Jesus Christ is God
absolute, and He which is, and was, and is to come! He is just simply God, Himself.
There are some people who do not believe in His Sonship: hence they never call Him
God.n The Jews of old, and Mohammedans are that people. In the 21st chapter of the
book of Revelation, beginning at verse six, it is written, "I am Alpha and Omega, the
beginning and the end....He that overcometh shall inherit all things, and I will be his
God, and he shall be my son." Now who is he that overcometh? Even he that believeth
that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We are now in the Kingdom of His dear "son." The
sonship is in the church, now. He has committed all judgment to the "Son." And we shall
"sit on thrones" with Him and by that I mean we shall have ruling authority some day
with Christ. The Lord once declared that the scribes and Pharisees sat in Moses' seat,
but He did not refer to a small bench of some sort. Neither does the expression, "And I
saw thrones, and they sat on them", relate to a state of sitting down all the time in a
seat. That is a lazy man's view! There are no lazy folk in heaven, "dwelling carelessly"
there. Heaven shall be the most active place imaginable.
If Jesus Christ is God Almighty, Creator of all things in heaven and in earth; and is He
who cannot lie, you will miss heaven as truly as you live, if you turn fromHis "Words." I
desire you to note a very important passage of Scripture, namely, that describing the
circumstances of Jesus' baptism at the River Jordan. The only person that ever did
overcome the world is Jesus. We overcome through him. There was a voice and a dove
there when He was showing us how to be overcomers. Now no one ever heard of a
dove being called a person, neither a voice called a person, except in the case of John
7
the Baptist, and yet some vainly attempt to establish a Trinity of persons in One God
from this occurence. The voice was the Spirit of God. And no one saw the manifestation
of a dove but John. Jesus did not get baptized to build up a Trinity doctrine, for the Bible
is absolutely against the theory of three persons called God. But Jesus' purpose was to
set forth before every man and woman the truth that you must be baptized and receive
the Spirit of God with a voice, in order to be saved (Galatians 3:26-27; 4:6). He said,
"THUS it becometh US." And that is one instance where God said "US", where we were
sure it did not refer to three persons! Christ stood there as our representative and
example, showing all men how to enter into salvation.
Now that was the beginning of His ministry. Immediately after this baptismal scene,
Jesus' body was moved by the Holy Ghost into the wilderness, to furnish us with
another example, but this time to show "US" how the devil will come to you to cheat you
out of your possession and rob you and try to cause you doubt. Just before He
ascended into heaven the Lord commanded his disciples, saying, "Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall
be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." And the reason for this was that
"all power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. THEREFORE go ye." Matthew
28:19. Christ is the wisdom of God and the POWER OF GOD.
8
On The Right Hand of God
There are many who are anxious to be enlightened, or to get an explanation of the
scriptures concerning Jesus being "on the right hand" of God, since this present great
message has come forth, we hereby set forth the meaning of the "right hand" according
to the word.
When Rachel brought forth her last son, Jacob, his father, called him Benjamin, that is,
"Son of my Right Hand." Benjamin was Jacob's "favorite" son, and became the head
warrior tribe (Genesis 49:27), and he was the most "favored" among his brethren by
Pharoah. (Genesis 45:22).
Of the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim received the "right hand" blessing, Jacob guiding
his hand wittingly, and when it displeased Joseph and prompted him to remove his right
hand to the head of Manasseh, Jacob refused and said, "truly his younger brother shall
be greater than he, and he set Ephraim before Manasseh, power and authority being
given unto him. (Genesis 48:13-20).
It was at the Red Sea that God's "right hand" was made "glorious in power," and being
favored God in this trying hour the children of Israel recognized themselves as being on
the right hand of the Most High. Power and authority had been given unto them, and as
a nation they were destined to show forth, in a measure, the future glory of the Coming
Kingdom of Christ. (Exodus 15:6).
In the Law it was understood that he who received the Right hand blessing was eligible
to exercise all authority over the possessions to which he has fallen heir. All things are
given into his hands. In all cases it was the "firstborn" who became his father's right
hand child, with the exceptions of the cases of Ephraim and Manasseh, Esau and
Jacob, Joseph and Benjamin, and such like wherein God endeavored to show the
transferring of his favor from the Jews (the first) to the gentiles (the last.)
When David was in trouble, he cried, "Will the Lord cast off forever and will he be
favorable no more? Is his mercy clean gone forever? Doth his promise fail
forevermore?" Then he said, "This is my infirmity: I will remember the years of the "right
hand" of the Most High." Psalms 77:7-11. Here it can be plainly seen that the "right
hand" of God is the "favor" of God. Hw would remember the years when he was favored
of God; when he was in power and authority, and all his enemies had been subdued
unto him. So it is with christ.
He was God in the "likeness of men;" the Lord and Master in the form of a servant: The
Everlasting father "as a son:" The eternal Spirit "manifest in flesh;" Divinity robed in
"humanity;" the High and Lofty One in "humility;" and in his humiliation His judgment
9
was taken away. He was misjudged. They judged him to be a man, speaking
blasphemy against the Most high. Though they judged him cursed of God, yet He said,
"Ye shall see the Son of man (his human form) sitting on the RIGHT HAND OF
POWER, and coming in the clouds of heaven." (Mark 14:62.) On the resurrection
morning he arose from the earth as Almighty God, favored with "all power given unto
Him both in heaven and in earth." Matthew 28:18.
It is this truth that sent conviction to the hearts of Israel on the day of Pentecost,
"Therefore being bythe right hand of God, God has made this Jesus, both Lord and
Christ." Acts 2:32-36. When Stephen saw Jesus "standing in the favor of god, in
defence of whom the Jews had put to death, it was more than his enemies could bear,
and they dragged him out of the city and stoned him to death. Acts 7:55-59.
To say that Christ is on the right hand of God does not mean that there is another
human form like unto that of Jesus seated in heaven, but instead, it showed that the
humanity of Jesus Christ (Son of Man) had been highly favored by God against whom
he was accused of speaking blasphemy. What a rebuke! What a sting? Jesus of
Nazareth, the deceiver, the blasphemer, the desecrater of the Sabbath, sitting on the
right hand of God!! Could it be possible? These are the things that confronted the Jews
after the resurrection, and those who testified to the truth of these things only enflamed
the Jews with bitter hatred. Acts 7:55-60
In reading the following scriptures, you will find that Jesus did not use the term "right
hand of God" but instead, "the right hand of POWER." Matthew 26:64; Mark 14:62; Luke
22:69. Moreover, it will be noticed that He also uses the term "Son of Man" (humanity,
instead of "Son of God." He was the Eternal Spirit's right hand Man. (Jehovah's fellow.
Zechariah 13:7.)

The Victim of the Flaming Sword
Written By: Bishop Garfield Thomas (G.T.) Haywood
Published by: The Christian Outlook - January, 1923
The fall of man was a tragedy that has been keenly felt by all humanity from Eden to
Calvary, and from Calvary till now. We have read of the fatal calamity and have been
made to mourn and weep over our lamentable downfall. But in spite of all this the fact
still remains the same, that the sin of our forefather Adam thrust us out from the
paradise of God.
Although coats of skin were brought forth to cover the nakedness of the
transgressors, and the blood of an innocent creature had been shed, temporarily
staying the hand of Justice, yet the words “the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt
surely die” stood steadfast, still unchanged.
The enmity between the serpent’s seed and the seed of the woman, the brusing of
his heel, the multiplying of her sorrows and conception; the cursing of the ground, the
sorrow of eating the products of the earth all the days of his life, the thorns, the thistles,
and the eating of bread by the sweat of his face until he should return to the ground,
were severe inflictions of punishment upon the first violators of God’s unalterable law.
There is no doubt but that they felt the keenest remorse and shame but to be sent forth
from out the garden lest he should partake of the tree of life and live forever, was
doubtless received with surprise.
Apparently the anger and indignation of God was increased, for it is further stated,
“So he DROVE out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden
Cherubim’s, and a FLAMING SWORD which turned every way, to keep the way of the
tree of life.” man by his wisdom was never to lay hold on the tree of life. The sentence of
death was passed upon all, and the rights to the tree of life had been forfeited. Whoever
attempted to regain it must come against the Flaming Sword.
From the time of the expulsion from Eden till the Exodus from the land of Egypt the
way of the tree of life had been kept from Adam’s posterity. No man had ever been able
to pass the flaming sword. Death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them who
had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression. Hope had almost vanished.
The old patriarch declared that there was hope for a tree, but a man dieth, and wasteth
away: yea, man given up the ghost, and where is he? And again, If a man dies, shall he
live again? No man could by any means redeem his brother, not give to God a ransom
for him; that he should still live forever, and not see corruption. (Job 14:8, 10, 14;
Psalms 49:7-9). No man could approach the tree of life.
There was a temporary restraint through the offering of the sacrifices of bullocks,
11
goats, lambs, doves and pigeons. It appears that in order to redeem his forfeited
position mankind sought the aid of these innocent creatures, and as they approached
the tree of life these sacrifices fell victim to the flaming sword. One after another fell
bleeding upon the altar, breathing its final breath, and died. None of them were
received from the dead to prove that they had succeeded in passing the sword and
regained the way of the tree of life.
So great was the slaughter of the bulls, goats, and lambs that God himself grew
weary of its continuance, and said, “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices
unto Me? I am full of burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beast; and I delight not in
the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of the goats.” (Isaiah 1:11). “For my Sword shall be
bathed (Revised version ‘hath drunk its fill’) in heaven: Behold it shall come down upon
Idumea (Edom), and upon the people of my curse. The Sword of the Lord is filled with
blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for the Lord
hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.” Isaiah 34:5,6.
From the foregoing scriptures we see that the Sword was filled with the blood of the
sacrifices. To God it was “enough.” he had a better sacrifice “in Bozrah,” and it was to
be a “great slaughter in the land of Edom” (Idumea). Edom was the name given to the
descendents of Esau. Esau and Jacob were two great types. In Esau we see the type of
God’s people after the flesh (Israel), while in Jacob we see the type of the Church who
is God’s people after the Spirit. And as Jacob supplanted Esau, even so has the Church
supplanted the Israelites. It is for this reason that God said, “Jacob have I loved, but
Esau have I hated.” Romans 9:13; Genesis 25:21-26.
When He said that he had a sacrifice in Bozrah, and that His sword would come
down upon the land of Edom, it was then that He pointed out where His flaming Sword
would mete out justice. The Prophet foreseeing, cried out later, “Who is this that cometh
from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel,
traveling in the greatness of his strength”? the Spirit of Christ within him (1 Peter 1:10,
11). Answered, “I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1.
David in his day, foreseeing the sufferings of Christ as the sacrifice, records in the
22nd Psalm, verse 20, the very words of Jesus upon His cross. He says, “Deliver My
soul from the Sword; my darling (only one) from the power of the dog” (the Gentiles).
Through this we can see that the Sword is connected with Calvary. For a long time the
Sword seemed to have been in silence, but because there was one coming to redeem
the forfeited possession, we hear Justice crying through the Prophet Zechariah,
“Awake, O Sword, against my shepherd, against the man that is my fellow, saith the
Lord of hosts; smite the shepherd and the sheep shall be scattered.” Zechariah 13:7.
After many weary years of waiting One came who was to be commander and a
leader of the people (Isaiah 55:4). He came to show the way to the tree of life. His
12
words, “I am come that they might have Life, and that they might have it more
abundantly,” cast a ray of hope across the path of the people who sat in darkness and
in the shadow of death. He came to restore the way to the tree of life.
To accomplish this He must needs pass the Flaming Sword in the hand of the
cherubim that was placed at the east of the Garden of Eden. When His hour arrived He
was not discouraged. He faced it like a man of war. The conflict was terrific. The Sword
pierced His brow and blood came streaming down His face. His body was lacerated. His
hands were torn and bleeding, the sword wounds entered His feet and His side, but
onward yet He pressed.
In the midst of His suffering He gave the thief an assurance that Hw would regain the
entrance into paradise. He, too, was paying the penalty, “Thou shalt surely die.” the tree
of life was in the midst of paradise. And to him He says, “Verily I say unto thee, today
shalt thou be with Me in paradise.”
In the heat of the struggle He cried, “I thirst,” and as darkness settled upon Him the
lamentable cry, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me,” brought the terrible
conflict to an end. And when He cried with a loud voice, “It is finished,” He gave up the
ghost and entered into paradise. Thus he braved the flaming sword and gained for us a
right to the tree of life in the midst of the paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7, 22:14).
Whether we live or die, that life is for us and He shall raise us up in the last day. (John
6:54; Revelation 2:10.)

Word and Wind
I his effort to offset Water baptism as Biblical means whereby one is prepared to receive
the Holy Ghost, a brother says that John 3:5 means to be born of the “word and wind”
instead of “water and Spirit” as it is translated. His reason for so saying is that the word
“wind” and “spirit” are the same word in Greek (pneuma). But this is a mistake.
According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance the word “wind” occurs but 25 times in
the New Testament. Twenty-two times it is translated from the Greek word “anemos”,
and three times from the word “pneo”, which means “a breeze”. Thus we have in John
3:8, “The wind (pneo, not pneuma) bloweth where it listeth”.
The word Spirit is recorded in the New Testament 198 times, and of this number it is
translated 196 times from the word “pneuma,” which means a “spectre” (Mat. 14:12;
Mar. 6:49). The word “pneuma” is invariably translated “spirit” and not wind”.
The word water is translated from the word ‘hudor‘, which means “water” literally, or
figuratively. There is no place in the New Testament where “water” means the “word” .
In Eph. 5:26 where the two expressions are together we find that “water” is translated
from the Greek term “hudor”, while “word” is translated from the word “rhema”, which
literally means “utterance, narration, command, saying, or word”.
To say that to be born of water and spirit means to be born of “word and wind” is far-
fetched. If “water” means word, and “Spirit” does not mean Spirit, but wind instead, then
to be born of water and Spirit means to receive the word and then to get out into the
wind. If that were true we would find ourselves depending on natural elements (the
wind) in this instance as well as when we use literal water in baptism. The argument of
the opposition is that we who take John 3:5 to mean literal water are “depending on
natural elements to obtain spiritual life”.
If you will notice closely you will see that after Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be
born of “water and spirit” , He is next found in Judea baptizing His disciples (John 3:22,
23), This, evidently being done to confirm what He had commanded of the ruler of the
Jews.
According to the book of Acts of the Apostles those who were with Jesus both before
and after his crucifixion understood Him to mean literal water and failed not to
administer the same, even though one should receive the Holy Spirit before being
baptized. See Acts 8:12-17, 27-39; 10:43-48.
We would not hold that water alone is sufficient, but rather, according to the command
14
of God, it is a part of God’s command, and is included in the thundering ultimatum of the
King of kings to the people of the kingdom of darkness, “Ye MUST BE BORN AGAIN”.
Did the Apostles baptize in water? Was Jesus Christ, our pattern and example, baptized
in water? Does not the Word of God show that baptism in water was administered all
through the early church? Then why should all this confusion, debate, and strife arise
over a thing so plainly seen and taught in the Holy Scriptures? Somebody is utterly at
fault. Somebody will have to give an account to God for their actions this day.
To teach that one has nothing to do to be saved in unscriptural. At Pentecost they cried,
“Men and brethren, what must we do?” Peter’s reply was “Repent and be baptized,
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins”. There is no one
who would say that Peter meant for them to be baptized in order to merit their salvation.
NEVER!! Yet this one thing they did, and God filled them with the Holy Ghost. There
was no work on the part of the one baptized. All he did was to surrender and submit
himself for a burial by baptism.
As soon as one repents of his sins, according to the word of God, he is ready for
baptism. Why should one be accused of heresy who practices thus? Let us look the
matter squarely in the face! Is it wrong to baptize a person after this manner? Is so,
what scripture is there against it? How can we say we are “earnestly contending for the
faith which was once delivered unto the saints” when we ourselves have not the faith to
baptize one “for the remission of sins” as they did in those days? They believed God,
and had faith in the operation of God. But when the Son of Man cometh will He find faith
on earth? It is written, “The just shall live by faith, but if any man draw back my soul
shall have no pleasure in him”.

The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation
Let us turn to the second chapter of Daniel. I am convinced that there are some
things of very great importance of hidden Christ for us. I can not believe God is bringing
out things today merely to lie waste. I believe He is bringing them out to be used in the
future. Someday, I believe, God is going to develop an ability in the people, who hear
them, to tell them to others. These things grow in you as they become part of your life.
You do not have to trouble yourself about your breathing, for it is a part of your very life.
And you do not have to tell your feet to go right or left, because a part of your being. So
it is with the things of God when they become a part of your life.
Some people learn more quickly than others, because they make their study a part of
themselves. If you see a good artist, you will see a man who has paints whole life in the
work. He paints his soul out upon the canvas. If your whole heart and soul is in the
Word, God will see to it that you let it become part of your life. Then your thoughts will
be on the Word of God, and you will be able to quote whole chapters without thinking,
because it is part of you.
Taking this second chapter of Daniel, I want to show you a comparison here. We
might begin with the 19th verse, saying, “Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a
night vision.” Paul declares that “the less is blessed of the better.” how then can Daniel
bless the God of heaven? Here is the better being blessed of the less. “Blessed be the
name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his” (verse 20). Now just prior
to this, the vision of King Nebuchadnezzar had caused him much anxiety. All the wise
men of Babylon failed to tell the king his dream, which he had dreamed; and neither
could they give the interpretation thereof. I want you to notice that these wise men were
connected with world power and sat in king’s courts. But God had some “princes” in
Babylon which were not so. It is better to be a servant of God in bondage than to be
worldly wise and sitting in a king’s court. :And He changed the times and the seasons;
He removeth kings and setteth up kings; He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and
knowledge to them that know understanding; He revealed the deep and secret things;
he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with Him.” (Verses 21 and
22.) These men in Babylon were called “wise” men, but he is a “wise” man who fears
God! Let us take Jeremiah, 9:23-24 - “Thus saith the Lord, ‘Let not the wise man glory in
his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his riches; but let him that glorieth glory
in this, that he understand and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exerciseth loving
kindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the
Lord.”
16
Now I want you to note there is nothing left for us to glory in apart from God, and
there is nothing in this world like knowing the Lord, who is the center and source of all
things. The world was “wise” and it is yet; but there has never been a vision given by the
world’s wisdom that would deliver the human soul, remove remorse away and give a
new heart. Nothing but the power of God - can transform the life.
1 Corinthians 1:19 declares, “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is
the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom
of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God; it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” Now, since we
have found our savior we have need of some of these things which will cause the
people of God to keep balance while in this life. The thing that is lacking is wisdom and
knowledge. No man can lead another until he has first caught up with him. Then, and
only then, can he lead him. We can never lead another person into the Spirit-filled life,
until we have proven to them that we have as much as they have, and even more. We
may have the Spirit, and they have knowledge, but we must display true wisdom and
knowledge together with our spiritual experience if we desire to convince others that we
have what they need. Knowledge is to know a thing, while wisdom is the handling of
knowledge with discretion. It is ours for the asking. James 1:5; Psalms 51:6; Isaiah
11:2, 3: We have the principal thing, and that is the Spirit of God.
God gives wisdom to the “wise” and knowledge to them that know “understanding.”
O, how we should hate evil! It blinds you and stops up your ears, defiles your heart and
brings fear upon you. A beautiful passage is found id found in job 28:28 - “And unto
man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is
understanding.” With whom are God’s secrets? “The secret of the Lord is with them that
fear Him; and he will show them his covenant.” Psalms 25:14. Those are the “wise”
people; they that fear him. Could God keep from putting His secrets in the midst of them
that fear him? No; for God cannot lie. Titus 1:2. You know if you get these things fixed in
your heart (Psalms 119:11) you can not lie either. Hebrews 6:18 says, “That by two
immutable things, in which it was impossible for god to lie, we might have a strong
consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.”
Nebuchadnezzar’s big image was nothing but a lifeless thing. It was only of gold and
silver and brass, etc. Such is the picture of the course of the world, indeed. You know
we are short-sighted and can not see afar off? “What is the use of doing this?” is the
murmur of some. God was looking far down the line. There is the thing that hinders us.
We are always looking at our own imperfections instead of looking straight to Jesus,
until He brings us all out. If our vision gets large, we will understand God’s purposes
and come out on top after while. The standard will be lifted up. I am sure that it is now
time for God to begin giving His people knowledge. I say unto you, ask and it shall be
given. As we search the scriptures see to it that you do so for the glory of God and His
17
word will be revealed in wisdom and understanding.

A Story of the Tenth
It was against my grain. For more than two years I had labored among a small band of
people, taking such as they gave. The work grew slowly. I prided myself in the fact that
our little mission had never lifted a collection, or asked anyone for one copper cent.
Throughout the entire time we were able to meet every indebtedness that came against
us. I could not ask, or speak about money, lest haply some one would think that I was in
the ministry for what financial gain I could get out of it.
My clothes were second-hand and occasionally patched at the elbows and the knees.
Often times my shoes were “half-soled” from within with folded newspapers, to keep my
feet from off the ground. My wife was contented and bore everything with patience. A
faithful wife is a treasure. What little money that was deposited in the “Free-will-offering”
box on the post near the mission entrance was used to pay the mission rent, fuel and
light bills, and the balance went to the “support of the pastor”. Thus we lived, but God
only knows how.
It was on Sunday morning at the “five o’clock prayer meeting” that the word of the Lord
came to me saying, “You must speak on tithes and offering this morning”. As I remained
on my knees with about twelve of our little band of thirty saints, I plead with god to
relieve me of the matter. To speak about money, I felt would be my ruin. I had preached
for nearly three years without mentioning it. How can I do it now. The only text that I
knew on the subject was “Will a Man Rob God?” I wept before God as I continued
pleading to be relieved. Finally he showed me that I was keeping the people from a
blessing.
At the close of the meeting I returned home, and afterwards began preparing for the
eleven o’clock morning service. The time speedily arrived. I entered the mission again
and immediately went to prayer. The saints gathered in, it seemed, one by one. Still I
pleaded. I got no answer. What must I do? Suddenly, as if a voice spoke from heaven,
there came these words into my heart, “Preach about Jacob’s ladder”. Thank God! My
prayer was heard! I felt sure that God had relieved me of the responsibility.
I arose from prayer and after singing several hymns, I at once found the place (after
some searching) and proceeded to expound the chapter, verse by verse. As we spoke
upon the word the Spirit of God filled the room. All the saints were rejoicing in the truths
that were being unfolded. As I came to the last verse, expecting to close my discourse, I
was astonished to find in the last of this chapter these words, “I will surely give ONE
TENTH unto thee.” Genesis 28th chapter.
It was like a thunderbolt from the sky. I thought I had escaped preaching tithes. Here it
19
was right before my eyes, unexpectedly. There was nothing to do but obey.
From that last verse I set before the people God’s financial plan. All eyes were riveted
upon me. When I concluded one of our elderly saints arose. I began to fear lest she was
rising to reprove me for speaking on money. I waited my reproof. To my surprise she
said, “We have all been wondering why you have not taught us tithes and offerings
before.” From that day forward the saints began paying tithes, and from a little band of
about thirty saints we have increased to over 1,000 at this writing.
Some have raised objections to tithing, saying that it was under the Law, but we must
remember that tithes were first paid by Abraham 430 years before the Law. Genesis
14:18-20. Jacob followed in his father’s steps. Genesis 28:20-22. Malachi was a
Prophet and not under the Law. Malachi 3:8-12. If we are the children of Abraham we
must do the works of Abraham. John 8:39. Melchizedec who received tithes, continues
to receive them through Christ, the Church, which is the continuation of the Melchizedec
priesthood. Hebrews 7th chapter.
Our entire financial system is carried on by the tithe and offering plan. It is through this
means that both the pastor and the Assembly are supported. When the children of God
will follow God’s plan in this matter, He will surely “open the windows of heaven” and
pour them out a blessing which they will not find room to receive it.
We are exhorted to “bring all the tithes into the STORE House” that there may be meat
(spiritual food), in God’s house. Malachi 3:10. He does not say “distribute it wherever
you please,” but rather bring it to the “store house.” God’s store house is the Assembly
from which one is fed. Surely God has filled His store house in our midst with “meat” in
due season.
If all assemblies would obey God’s word in this matter, what a blessing would be upon
them. God would “feed them with the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock”
would He satisfy them. To withhold the tithe of your income is equal to robbery. That
part is God’s dividend. He says “bring” it into the store house. But can God use money,
or tithes of all our increases? What use would it be to him?
God is a Spirit, but the Church is His body through which He receives His tithe. Why
should His church go begging when He has a plan whereby it might be enriched in all
wisdom and utterance as well as from a monetary point of view?
There are those who teach that all the tithes should go to the pastor’s support, but we
have never seen in the word of God that such was the plan in the beginning. The
minister should be supported out of the tithes and offerings. All the scripture says on
that line is “Muzzle not the ox that treadeth out the corn.” I Corinthians 9:7-12. It is a
settled fact that the laborer is worthy to have bestowed upon him their carnal, or
temporal things.
To my mind no minister should put in a claim for all the tithes to go to himself and the
20
Assembly be supported from the “offerings.” It causes strife and suspicion. There is
always someone thinking that the pastor is getting more than he really is. Neither should
he be “greedy after filthy lucre.” If he is faithful, and patient, God will surely not see him
forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
Today there are many business houses that prosper in their line because they pay their
tithes into the house of God. Sinners who have no experimental knowledge of God, pay
tithes and are blessed. If it can be so with people of the world, why not the saints of God
strive for the same divine blessing. Whoever opposes the paying of tithes opposes not
man, but God who has commanded that such should be done. One cent out of every
ten; one dime out of every dollar; one dollar out of every ten dollars; ten dollars out of
every hundred, belongs to the Lord. If we withhold it, it will consume the other nine-
tenths so that it will be of little value to one who withholds it.

A Uniform World Religion
The above heading is the caption of an article recently published in one of the daily
papers, which we quote verbatim in the following:
St. Louis, October 17. - A uniform world religion could be established by all
denominational churches returning to the form, ritual and dogma of apostolic times, is
the opinion of members of the new testament congress, an organization composed of
members of the Christian Church of America (Disciples of Christ), expressed at a
symposium here today.
Dr. George B. Taubman, of Long Beach, California, said that the church
denominationalism has been caused by divergence from the New Testament, which, he
said, contained the truth of the prophesies made by the old Testament.
The above statement is undoubtedly the only solution to the many divisions in the
Christian world today. The plain statements in the book of Acts as to the apostles
preaching and practice can never be gain-said. If all would begin as did the early
apostles preaching the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ they would find
themselves getting of a solid foundation.
The word of God is our only foundation. If the foundation be destroyed what can the
righteous do? If we, who are set forth for the defense of the word of God, will reject and
criticize the same when presented by some one to our disliking, how, the, are we going
to “lift up a standard” for the people?
God is endeavoring to swing the Church back to its original standing upon the
principles of the doctrine of Christ. We do not wish to inaugurate any new doctrine, but
we merely desire that the reader will consider the following portions of this article
carefully and prayerfully.
If all ministers would follow the Acts of the Apostles in their administration of baptism
to the penitent believer there would be harmony in the midst of the people of God.
22
Where no water can be obtained for baptizing every one knows, of course, that no
baptizing could be done. But where there is water God requires it. Some have taken
exception to water baptism in the name of Jesus because there are places where no
water can be gotten, but that does not exempt the minister who has water within his
reach.
Jesus says “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Again “Except a man
be born of water and Spirit he can not enter into the kingdom of God.” the apostle Peter
said, “Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.” Ananias said to brother Saul,
at the direction of Jesus Christ, “Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins, calling
on the name of the Lord.” (Mark 16:16; John 3:5; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16.)
The apostle Paul said. He saved us by the washing (baptism) of regeneration, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost. Again, Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it
that he might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing (baptism) of water by the word.
(See Titus 3:5; Ephesians 5:26 and Acts 19:1-5.) some have been taught that the
“washing of water by the word” means a washing in the word,” but this is misleading, for
it plainly says “washing of water” and not a “washing in the word.” our bodies are to be
washed in water according to the word, and that is, according to the words of Jesus by
both precepts (Mark 16:16; John 3:5) and example. (Matthew 3:15-16.)
It is commonly stated that baptism does not save us. If the Word of God bore that
statement out I would readily conform my preaching and teaching to that line. What
profit is it to us to continue in our own way when we see by the word of God that we are
wrong? What would it profit a man though he gained the whole world, and lost his own
soul? Let us see what the Word saith. Peter, who said, “Repent and be baptized in the
name of Jesus for the remission of sins” many years afterwards confirmed his
instructions given on the day of Pentecost by saying “In the days of No0ah eight souls
were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth now also save us.”
then, lest some should think that he meant that water baptism saved them by removing
the bodily uncleanness, he adds “not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,” but,
deeper than that, “the answer of a good conscience toward God.” the strength in
baptism as a saving medium comes “by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
(I Peter 3:20, 21).
Water alone does not save us. “Not by water only, but by water and blood.” The blood
23
and the name of an individual are inseparable. John Smith’s son is a “Smith” no matter
what other name you may give him, because he has Smith’s blood in him. By this I want
to show that the blood and the name are inseparable. You can not honestly bear the
name of Smith unless you have Smith’s blood in you, neither can you deny that you are
a Smith as long as you have Smith’s blood in your veins. The Blood and the Name of
Jesus are inseparable. To be saved by water baptism, it must be administered in the
name of Jesus, for there is “no other name under heaven given among men, whereby
we must be saved.” the life of the Blood of Christ is connected with baptism when it is
administered in His name. it is not by water only, but by water and blood, and the blood
is connected with His name.
It is from this reason that we find these various scriptures, but all relating to the same
thing: “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” “Repent and be baptized in the
name of Jesus for the remission of sins.” “When they believed concerning the name of
Jesus, they were baptized.” Acts 8:12.) through His NAME whosoever believeth in Him
shall receive remission of sins. (Acts 10:36, 43, 47, 48). “Believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house” (Acts 16:30-33). Belief in the name of
Jesus must be followed by being baptized in his name. (See Mark 16:15, 16; Acts
16:14, 15, 31, 33; Acts 18:8; Acts 19:4,5.)
This is God’s plan. It proved successful in the days of the apostles, why should it not
be so now? Have we become instructor of the Almighty, that we should “correct” the
“errors” of apostolic days by substituting our modern methods in the place of those
given by the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven? Has God changed His plan of
salvation? If so, when, and where?
Was baptism for the remission of sins given for Jews only? Jesus said “Go ye into all
the world, and preach the gospel to EVERY creature (Jew and Gentile). He (Jew and
Gentile) that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be saved.” “As many (Jew and Gentile)
as received Him (they that received His word were baptized in His name, Acts 2:38, 41),
to them gave He power (the Holy Ghost, Acts 1:8) to become the sons of God, even to
them that believed on His (Jesus’) name” (John 1:12).
In St. Luke 24:47, Jesus says “that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among all nations, BEGINNING at Jerusalem.” according to the
inspired word the manner in which Peter preached and presented the gospel on the day
of Pentecost at Jerusalem, so was it to be performed throughout “all the world” “among
all nations.”
This truth is being verified wherever it is preached. The gospel of old is just the same
today. The traditions of men have made3 the word of God of none effect, but every vine
24
that bour Heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up (Matthew 15:1-13). God
grant that we be not afraid to trust His word. Our fear rowards God has been taught by
the precepts of men, but we now behold a better day dawning. The Church is hearing
the cry, “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O
Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the
uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thyself from the dust; arise and sit down, O
Jerusalem; loose thyself from the band of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
Therefore my people shall know my NAME; therefore they shall know in that day that I
am he that doth speak, behold, it is I, The Lord has made bare His holy arm (Isaiah
53:1) in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the
SALVATION of our God.” Isaiah 51:1-10.

Allegory In The Book of Job
That there was once a man whose name was Job there can be no doubt, from the fact
that God classes him with Noah and Daniel (Ezek. 14:14), while James refers to his
patience in connection with the “prophets” and “the Lord” (Jas. 5:10, 11). But in the
record of his life is concealed a most wonderful allegory of the fall and rise of the human
family.
Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael and Isaac were real persons, yet in reading Galatians
4:22-31 we find that the apostle Paul in speaking of the casting out of Hagar and
Ishmael says that those things “are an allegory.” (Verse 24). An allegory is “the
description of one thing under the image of another.”
Job, in his prosperity, was like man “hedged” about in Eden. Satan, the accuser of the
brethren, intended to make man curse God, by depriving him of his blessings in Eden.
But though man was put out of the garden, yet he endeavored to worship God through
sacrifices and offerings. (Gen. 4:1, etc).
To offset the spirit of worship Satan caused the world to be filled with sin and violence.
There was none good, no, not one. The human family was full of “wounds, and bruises,
and putrifying sores”; “the whole head was sick and the whole heart was faint. From the
sole of the foot even to the head, there was no soundness in it.” Isa. 1:5,6.
The three friends of Job are the conscience, the Law and the Prophets. As these three
men’s council was unprofitable so far as helping Job out of his condition, even so the
conscience, law and prophets were unable to deliver man from his miserable,
loathsome state.
The cry of Job, in his misery, for a “days-man” (mediator) who could “lay his hand upon
both” himself and God (Job 9:33), and his yearning cry, “Oh that I knew where I might
find Him” most wonderfully portrays the craving of the human heart for the Savior, who
could lay his hand upon man and God. The conscience accused him, (Romans 2:14,
15); the Law condemned him (2 Corinthians 3:9), and the Prophets reproved him (Isaiah
29:21; 59:1-15), but none of these three could show man the way out of his miserable,
wretched condition.
The sudden appearance of Elihu upon the scene and his silencing of the arguments of
Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar is like Christ coming “suddenly” to this earth (Mal. 3:1; Lu.
2:1-14; Mat. 3:13-17) as a “days-man” or Mediator between God and man. As Elihu was
“in God’s stead” (Job 32”6) and “also formed out of clay” and exhorted Job to be not
“afraid” (verse7), even so Christ “in God’s stead,” was made like unto sinful “flesh” in
26
order that man be not “terrified” at his presence. His words, “neither shall my hand be
heavy upon you,” conceals the words of Jesus; “My yoke is easy, and my burden is
light.” As Elihu was the end of the arguments of Job’s three friends, even so was Christ
the end of the accusation, condemnation, and reproof of the Conscience, Law and
Prophets. At the transfiguration Peter, Moses, and Elias were silenced, and they saw
“no man” but Jesus only.
The departure of Elihu is as mysterious as his appearance. In the closing of his remarks
he exhorts Job to “stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” Jesus showed
man (sinful man) the “wondrous works of God,” and as Elihu’s presence was swallowed
up by the presence of God coming and speaking out of the “whirlwind,” so it was on the
day of Pentecost, that the testimony of Christ was confirmed by the “rushing mighty
wind” (Acts 2:1-4; Mat. 10:20), God speaking in the Holy Ghost. (See Job, 32nd Chapter
to 37th , Elihu’s testimony. Chapter 38 to 41, God’s testimony.)
When man was deprived of the happiness of Eden, he lost all that he had. Like Job, it
seemed he could say, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the
name of the Lord.” He was stripped of everything but yet he offered homage unto god.
In the “latter end” of his life, God blessed Job more than he did at the beginning. So
shall it be with man, the latter days of our human existence will be glorious and far
exceed anything that mortal eye has ever beheld. For it is written, eye hath not seen
nor ear heard what God has prepared for them that love Him. (1 Cor. 2:9, 10).
It was through faith and patience that Job passed through the terrible ordeal and
obtained the multiplied blessing in the end. His undaunted courage and confidence
sustained him. He endured as seeing Him who is invisible. The hope of a resurrection
gave him strength to press his claim. Though in the beginning he reasons, “If a man
dies shall he live again?” And, again, “As a cloud is consumed and vanisheth away, so
he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more,” yet toward the last he caught a
distant vision of his Lord and cried, “I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall
stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this
body, yet in my flesh I shall see God.”
Thus, we who are called unto suffering, that we might obtain a better resurrection, must
not be “slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the
promises.” Though our conscience has accused us, the law has condemned us, and the
prophets have reproved us, thank God, that there is a “daysman” between us; one that
has laid his hand on both God and man, the man Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Baptizing In Jesus' Name
The word of God is our only foundation: If the foundation be destroyed what can the
righteous do? If we, who are set forth for the defense of the word of God, will reject and
criticize the same when presented by some one to our disliking, how, then, are we going
to “lift up a standard” for the people?
God is endeavoring to swing the Church back to its original standing upon the principals
of the doctrine of Christ. We do not wish to inaugurate any new doctrine, but we merely
desire that the reader will consider the following portions of this article carefully and
prayerfully.
If all ministers would follow the Acts of the Apostles in their administration of baptiam to
the penitent believer there would be harmony in the midst of the people of God.
Where no water can be obtained for baptizing every one knows, of course, that no
baptizing could be done. But where there is water God requires it. Some have taken
exception to water baptism in the name of Jesus because there are placed where no
water can be gotten, but that does not exempt the minister who has water with in his
reach.
Jesus says. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Again, “Except a man be
born of water and Spirit he can not enter into the kingdom of God.” The Apostle Peter
said, “Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.” Ananias said to brother Saul,
at the direction of Jesus Christ, “Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling
on the name of the Lord.” (Mark 16:16; John 3:5; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:15).
The Apostle Paul said, “He saved us by the washing (baptism) of regeneration, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost.” Again, Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it
that he might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing (baptism) of the water by the word.
(See Titus 3:5; Ephesians 5:26 and Acts 19:1-5). Some have been taught that the
“washing of water by the word” means a “washing in the word,” but this is misleading,
for it plainly says “washing of water” and not a “washing in the word.” Our bodies are to
be washed in water according to the word, and that is according to the words of Jesus
by both precepts (Mark 16:16; John 3:5) and example. (Matthew 3:15, 16).
It is commonly stated that baptism does not save us. If the Word of God bore that
statement out, I would readily conform my preaching and teaching to that line.
28
What profit is it to us to continue in our own way when we see by the word of God that
we are wrong? What would it profit a man though he gained the praise of men, yea, the
whole world, and lost his own soul? Let us see what the Word saith. Peter, who said,
“Repent and be baptized * * * in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins” many
years afterwards confirmed his instructions given on the day of Pentecost by saying, “In
the days of Noah * * * eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even
baptism doth now also save us.” Then, lest some should think that he meant that water
baptism saved them by removing the bodily uncleanness, he adds, “not the putting
away of the filth of the flesh,” but, deeper than that, “the answer of a good conscience
toward God.” The strength in baptism as a saving medium comes “by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 3:20, 21).
Water alone does not save us. “Not by water only, but by water and blood.” The blood
and the name of an individual are inseparable. John Smith’s son is a “Smith” no matter
what other name you may give him, because he has Smith’s blood in him. By this I want
to show that the Blood and Name are inseparable. You can not honestly bear the name
of Smith unless you have Smith blood in you, neither can you deny that you are a Smith
as long as you have Smith’s blood in your veins. The Blood and the Name of Jesus are
inseparable. To be saved by water baptism, it must be administered in the name of
Jesus, for there is “no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must
be saved.” The life of the blood of Christ is connected with baptism when it is
administered in His name. It is not by water only, but by water and blood, and the blood
is connected with His name.
It is from this reason that we find these various scriptures, but all relating to the same
thing: “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” “Repent and be baptized in the
name of Jesus for the remission of sins.” “When they believed concerning the name of
Jesus, they were baptized.” (Acts 8:12). “Through his NAME whosoever believeth in him
shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:36, 43, 47, 48). “Believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house” (Acts 16:30-33). Belief in the name of
Jesus must be followed by being baptized in his name. (See Mark 16:15, 16; Acts
16:14, 15, 31, 33; Acts 18:8; Acts 19:4, 5).
This is God’s plan. It proved successful in the days of the Apostles, why should it not be
so now? Have we become instructor to the Almighty, that we should “correct” the
“errors” of apostolic days by substituting our modern methods in the place of those
given by the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven? Has God changed his plan of
salvation? If so, when, and where?
Was baptism for the remission of sins given for Jews only? Jesus said, “Go ye into all
the world, and preach the gospel to EVERY creature (Jew and Gentile) He (Jew or
Gentile) that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be saved.”
“As many (Jews or Gentiles) as received Him (they that received his word were
baptized in His name {Acts 2:38, 41}, to them gave He power (the Holy Ghost, Acts 1:8)
29
to become the sons of God, even to them that believed on His (Jesus’) name.” (John
1:12).
This truth is being verified wherever it is preached. The gospel of old is just the same
today. The traditions of men have made the word of God of none effect, but every vine
that our Heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up (Matthew 15:11-13). God
grant that we be not afraid to trust his word. Our fear towards God has been taught by
the precepts of men, but we now behold a better day dawning. The Church is hearing
the cry, “Awake, awake, but on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O
Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the
uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thyself from the dust; arise and sit down, O
Jerusalem: loose thyself from the band of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
Therefore my people shall know my NAME: therefore they shall know in that day that I
am he that doth speak, behold, it is I. The Lord has made bare his holy arm (Isaiah
53:1) in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the
SALVATION of our God.” (Isaiah52:1-10).

Coming To The Truth
In reading Genesis 3:15, we find the first gospel message ever preached. Before the fall
of man Adam was the Son of God by creation. But only a figurative son. In the Book of
Romans, the 5th Chapter, it stands written that Adam was “a figure of Him that was to
come” In the 3rd Chapter pf Luke’s gospel, beginning with the 37th verse, beginning
with the genealogy of Methusaleh, it takes us back to Adam, which was the Son of God.
Adam being a figurative son, evidently had the baptism of the Holy Ghost. That is why
he was filled with wisdom and knowledge. That is why he could talk, give names to all
things, and have authority over everything, immediately after he was made. Adam went
into a deep sleep and God took a rib out of his side and performed the first operation, by
removing the rib and with it “builded” (Margih) a woman. Why was it thus? Because
Adam was a figure of Christ, whose side was opened up on Calvary, from whence came
“water and blood” with which He is “building” (another Woman) the Church.
In the whole plan of creation, it deals with Christ and the Church. In the garden the
woman listened to the arguments of the devil, but you cannot listen to the devil and
succeed. You must have an ear to hear what God says. There are plenty of people
taking “near” Scriptures and not whole truth. But we desire the plain word of God. The
devil said, “ You will not surely die, but you will be as gods knowing good and evil.” And
the woman being deceived, looked upon that which was contrary to the command of the
Lord God; and the longer she looked the more she desired to have that thing. It was not
what she did so much, that brought the sin, but the One whom she disobeyed. She
being the mother of all living, brought death upon all that should come after her. And
Adam seeing himself left alone, so loved his wife that he was willing to die with her, and
so he transgressed. He was not deceived. This also is typical of Christ’s love for the
church that came and died with us in order that we might be saved.
God knew that Adam had eaten when He asked him, “What hast thou done?” but He
simply wanted Adam to confess the thing out. Many of us are found to require a long
time in getting to the point where we are willing to confess that thing which we have
done, and to confess that we did the thing and not another. “And the LORD God said
unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done?” He knew what she had done: but He
wanted the Woman to confess also. He that confesses and forsakes his sins shall have
mercy. Prov. 28:13.
God had said, “The day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die,” but today with the
Lord is one thousand years long. They both died in that day. And we find that after
Adam and Eve were put out of the garden, and the devil began to take hold of the entire
human family, God’s love and mercy took hold of the situation. Instead of cutting man
off, God caused him to labor hard for his bread so that he would long for rest. Every
time you see a man laboring, as the sweat breaks out on his face, you can say: -
“Transgression brought it all!” But with a strong hand God shall redeem us and bring us
31
into the glorious liberty of the children of God!
Adam lost the anointing. He was not glorified. He was where the Spirit-baptized saints
are now. You and I, and all of us were in Adam, and we all had the holy Ghost at one
time. We do not remember it, be we had it just the same. We are merely “Adam.” If we
were in him when he was condemned, we were in him when he had the anointing. That
is why it is said, that “according to His mercy He saved us by the washing of
regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which He shed on us abundantly through
Jesus Christ, our Saviour.” Titus 3:5-6. The Holy Ghost is renewed to Adam’s posterity.
We are in Christ now, the second Adam. We are no longer separate but are “cemented”
into the body of Christ, of which Adam was a figure. And this time we are not going to
allow the Holy Spirit to be taken from us.
We must get a broader vision of the operation of God and not be narrow in our
understanding of His word. As soon as you get the Holy Ghost you are back in the place
where Adam stood. I hope you will see it. We thank God today that we are coming to
the truth of the scriptures.

Ezekiel's Vision (Part One)
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which
men deliver on one that is learned, saying, read this. I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot:
for it is sealed: And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I
pray thee, and he saith, I am not learned, (Isa. 29:11, 12).
There has been much speculation as to what the first chapter of Ezekiel signified. It is
one of the most mysterious of all prophetical writings, and the learned men of the past
ages have been unable to come to any agreement as to the interpretation thereof.
Some have said that it was the “attitude of the prophet’s mind at that time being much
worried over the conditions of his people” then in captivity: others have passed it off as
“just a vision” of the prophet; and so they simply pull a sheet over the “mystery” and
pounce upon the second chapter and proceed to comment on its context.
But, thanks be to God, the mysteries that have been hidden for ages are being revealed
in these last days by the holy Ghost, so freely given unto us. We are told in the word
that “prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as
they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21.) That being true, then it is no
marvel to see the “mysteries that have been hidden for ages” being “made manifest to
his saints,” who are being baptized with the holy Ghost according to Acts 2:4; 10:45;
19:6. And since the Holy Ghost moved the prophets of old to speak the words they
wrote, it is evident that He (the Holy Ghost) is capable of making known the things
which he “moved” to be written. Hallelujah!
EXPOSOITION
From the first to the third verse is an introduction to the great mysteries about to be
revealed, giving the time, and the prophet to and for whom the vision was given.
And the hand of the Lord was there upon him. The hand of the Lord is the Holy Ghost.
In comparing Matt. 12:28 with Luke 11:20 you will find the foregoing statement verified.
Also at the feast of Belshazzar the Spirit of God in the form of “the fingers of a man’s
hand wrote upon the wall.” (Dan. 5:5.) Read also Acts 4:28-30.
And I looked, and behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and fire
infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of
amber, out of the midst of the fire.
In this is seen the prophetic picture of the ministry of Jesus Christ from Galilee down to
Jerusalem and regions thereabout. Galilee was north of Jerusalem, and it was from
there, after choosing his disciples, that his great ministry began. And like a mighty
whirlwind he went through the country, casting out devils, pulling down creeds and
33
traditions, uprooting the doctrines of the Pharisees, reproving hypocrites, uncovering
hidden things, breaking up funerals, cleansing lepers, healing all manner of diseases,
rebuking the waves, and demons crying out as they had never been known to do
before. And when He was brought before Pilate they that accused him became more
fierce, saying, “He stirreth up the people, teaching through out all Jewry, beginning from
Galilee to this place.” Luke 23:5.
It was God in the ministry of Christ, for often you will find in the scriptures that God is
recorded as being in the whirlwind. Elijah was taken to heaven in a whirlwind. 2 kings
2:1. The Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind. Job 38:1. The prophet Isaiah saw the
Lord coming “with fire, and with the chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with
fury and his rebuke with flames of fire. Isa. 66:15.
A great cloud signifies the mystery of God’s presence; He appeared in a cloud unto
Moses. Ex. 24:16, Num. 11:25; 12:5. The fire infolding itself also in the manifestation of
the Almighty, for it is written that “God is a consuming fire.” Deut. 4:24; 9:3; Heb. 12:29.
Not only was it a burning fire, but it was also a “shinning light,” for a brightness was
about it, and “they that sat in darkness saw a great light” and gentiles came to the
brightness of its rising. Isa. 60:3.
Out of the midst of the whirlwind came something like amber, out of the midst of the fire.
The substance that came out of the fire was not amber, but was as the color of amber,
that is, “yellowish” as the appearance of gold. This bears a very close resemblance of
the “faith” that was brought unto mankind through the works of the Lord Jesus. Peter
said, “the trial of your faith” is much more precious than gold that perisheth though if be
tried by fire. 1 Peter 1:7. Jesus said to the Laodicean church, which is a figure of the
present church-age, “I counsel thee to buy of me, gold tried by fire.” Rev. 3:18. And
what the church needs today is the faith (gold as the color of amber) which the three
Hebrew boys “tried in the fiery furnace.” Dan. 3:16-30.
If you read carefully you will be convinced of the fact that the entire work of the Lord
was to re-establish faith in the earth, therefore His constant exhorting was “believe me,”
“have faith in God,” “believe me for the work’s sake,” “O, ye of little faith,” and many
other similar sayings. Howbeit, when the Son of man comes shall He find faith on earth?
34
Fasting
In reading Matthew 9:14, 15 we find a question arose among John’s disciples as to why
they and the Pharisees fasted often while Jesus’ disciples fasted not at all. But Jesus
said unto them, “Can the children of the bride chamber mourn, as long as the
bridegroom is with them? But the day will come when the bridegroom shall be taken
from them, and then shall they fast.” While Jesus was with them in the flesh they were
not required to fast, for they did not understand and neither could in their state at that
time. But after Jesus was taken from them into heaven (Acts 1:0) then they fasted in
those days. (Acts 9:9; 13:2, 3: 14:23; 27:9, 33.)
At this present time there is much fasting needed but it is Satan’s plan to hinder this line
of work as much as possible. The manner of how to fast is of very great importance,
therefore we exhort you to read the scriptures that are given in this line.
Many saints fast and do not obtain the desired results, because they know not how to
fast. Read. Isaiah 58th chapter. Verses 1 and 2 tells of how many of us come before the
Lord; verses 3 to 5 tell of their complaint and God’s reproof; verses 6 and 7 tell of the
kind of fasting that is pleasing to the Lord, and verses 8 and 9 gives the blessing that
will come upon you while you are fasting for others; verses 10 to 12 tell of the final
results if you continue in the work of the Lord by doing good to them in need.
NOTICE. Fast not for yourself, but fast for others’ welfare and your welfare will be found
delightful.
Extrodinary fastings - Our Lord, Matthew 4:2. Moses, Exodus 34:28, Deut. 9:9, 18.
Elijah, I Kings 19:8.
Of saints - II Samuel 12:16; Neh. 1:4; Esther, 4:16: Dan. 9:3; Matthew. 9:14; Luke 2:37;
Acts 10:30 and 13:2; II Cor. 6:5 and 11:27.
35
High Priest And His Sons
The High Priest of the Old Testament was chosen of God. No man took that office unto
himself. But when God desired to establish a typical priesthood it was to be patterned
after the heavenly priesthood (Heb. 8:4-5). And in His choice for that divine office He
chose Aaron and his sons and appointed it to them for “a perpetual hereditary (Ex. 28:1,
2, 3, 40-43; 29:9, 29, 30).
No one was admitted into the priesthood but the sons or descendants of Aaron. The
High Priest was always the father of those who entered into the priesthood and gained
admittance into the sanctuary. (See Eli’s family degraded from office. I Sam. 2:27-36.)
Now that Christ has become the High Priest, the priesthood also has been changed. For
he is a “priest forever (everlasting) after the order of Melchisedec.” The priesthood no
longer remains in the house of Aaron, but has been bestowed upon the house of God,
whose house are we - the heavenly family. We are the “royal priesthood” (I Pet. 2:9)
that minister in the true tabernacle, and are made unto our God kings and priests (Rev.
5:8).
The fact that we are the “royal priesthood” and Christ is the High Priest, proves
conclusively that Christ Jesus is our father. For the High Priest was always the father of
those who partook of the priesthood. Moreover, Christ is a Priest forever (everlasting),
hence He is our “Everlasting Father,” as so saith Isaiah the prophet (Isa. 9:6).
There is but “one God and Father of all, who is above all” (Eph.4:6), and speaking of
Christ, John bore witness that He was the one who was “above all,” showing clearly that
He who was “from above (and) is above all” is the “one God and Father of all, who is
above all, and thru all, and in you all” (John 3:31).
Our High Priest and father has entered into that four square city alone, while we, His
sons minister in His sanctuary, the spirit-filled body of Christ. He entered by the door
into the sanctuary at the River Jordan, when He was baptized in water and spirit. After
the Resurrection He went into the holy of Holies, or heaven itself. On the day of
Pentecost He came out in the person of the Holy Spirit and gave us “power to become
the sons of God” that we might minister in the true sanctuary (Acts 1:8; John1:12).
It was on the Isle of Patmos that John saw Christ clothed in His Priestly costume. It was
there that Christ declared himself to be the Alpha and omega, the First and the last
(Comp. Isa. 44:6, with Rev. 1:8, 11, 17, 18). Therefore He could easily say: “He that
overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his GOD, and he shall be MY son,”
because the High Priest was the father of all that partook of the priesthood (Rev. 21:7).
36
Holding Up The Prophet's Hand
It was hard for Moses as he stood upon the hill overlooking the battlefield with his hands
uplifted toward heaven. The conflict was raging. Joshua with his army was fighting hand
to hand with the enemy. As long as Moses’ hands were raised towards heaven, the
children of Israel prevailed. When they dropped to his side from exhaustion the
Amalekites were victorious. When Aaron and Hur saw that victory for Israel depended
upon the hands of Moses being lifted towards heaven, they caused him to sit upon a
stone while they stood by and :stayed up his hands, the one on the one side; and the
other on the opposite side: and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.” Exodus
17th chapter.
The battle in which we are engaged is fierce. There are times when the adversary
seems to prevail against us. Prayers, tears, sleepless nights, and mental weariness is
our portion. As long as our hands are stayed up victory is ours. We need every member
of the “royal priesthood” to stand by and hold up our hands. If you do we shall prevail.
Hold them up in prayer. Hold them up in doing all you can for the cause. Hold them up
by loving one another; visiting the sick; comforting the weak; and being regular in your
attendance at the services. God help you to hold up the prophet’s hands.

How To Conduct Services
A service may be conducted by prayers, but more often by singing. The spirit of a song
is a great attraction to a spiritual meeting. Songs that have depth to them are always
best. Perhaps three or four songs before prayer. This may be followed with a Praise
Service, permitting all to take part, whether saints or church members. The Word of God
says: “Declare His doings among the people.” a Testimony Meeting is merely relating
what the Lord is “doing” in one’s life. (See Isaiah 12). There should not be too much of a
jubilee spirit in the service, otherwise a sober, thinking person would become disgusted
and turn away. We are exhorted to be sober, and also as “wise as serpents”.
The preaching of the Word should not be too lengthy, especially when we see that the
congregation is weary and any leaving the services . A sermon right to the point is most
effective.
At the close of the service several good songs appealing to the unsaved or backsliders,
will no doubt carry great weight of conviction. Above all things consider God, both
prayer and praise, and on testimonies and sermon. Pray in the beginning. Pray during
the service. Pray in the end.

How To Receive The Holy Ghost
Many hearts are throbbing within the bosoms of the true children of God for a
refreshing shower from the throne on high which will assure them of God’s love and
care for his own in these awful days which are filled with dire prognostications.
In the world there are tribulations, anguish, unrest, and sorrow. Calamity after
calamity is stalking through the land. Disease, death, and destruction, the devil’s great
“Triumvirate” seems to have banded themselves together for the last great day of
slaughter. No sooner are the tears dried from the eyes of one people than there is
deluge of teardrops from those of another. Earthquakes, wars, famines, pestilence,
murder, strife wrecks, robbery, and revolutions have thrown the diplomatic world almost
into a panic.
Now that the day of wrath seems to be upon the world, the greatest question that
stands before this distressed generation is, “What shall we do?” In a recent public
address given by a prominent Bible lecturer, after he had shown by both the Bible and
the Press that we were on the eve of the great day of God, asked the question, “What
shall we do?” His answer was given by reading Zephaniah 2:3: “Seek ye the Lord, all ye
meek of the earth, which have wrought His judgment; seek righteousness, seek
meekness; it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger”. At this he closed his
meeting. The multitude then departed, but as they went, on their faces could be seen
another question arising, “But how shall we do that?” “What does he mean by ‘Seek the
Lord?’”
There is sadness of the whole affair. They heard of the troubles that are coming upon
this age, but so few know just what to do. To “seek the Lord” means to “seek for the
fullness of the Holy Spirit.” The word of God says “Now the Lord is that SPIRIT”. 2
Corinthians 3:17.
The scriptural way to seek the Holy Spirit is given in the book of Acts. The first thing a
seeker is instructed to do is to “Repent, believe, and be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ FOR THE REMISSION of sins” and “ye SHALL receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost”.
First: Repent, that is, to look with regret upon your failures of the past, and with a
sorrowful heart, turn from them and denounce them forever, and look by faith to Jesus.
Second: Then be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins;
that is, be baptized in water by immersion, but it must be done “in the NAME of JESUS
39
CHRIST”, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we shall
be saved. See Acts 2:38; 4:10-12.
If the heart is fully yielded the Holy Spirit will come upon you while you are being
baptized. Begin at once praising the Lord with your whole heart and He will pour His
Spirit upon you.
Third: If you do not receive the Holy Ghost while being baptized, the next step is to
bow before God and let some godly man or woman lay their “hands upon your head”
and pray that you receive the Holy Spirit. See Acts 19:5, 6.
Many people receive the Holy Spirit without being baptized in water (Acts 10:43-48),
but they are baptized afterwards.
When the fullness of the Spirit comes upon you your experience will bear witness to
the records given in the days of the apostles. Then you will “open up to heaven all the
windows of your soul”, and the praises of Jehovah will roll forth from your innermost
being like streams of living waters. Then will the “Allelujahs” roll and echo upon the
breeze.
Bow upon your knees at home, or wherever you are and ask God to fill you with his
Spirit. Do not wait. Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while he is
near!

Is The Pulpit Losing Power
The Above subject was given as a heading to an article that recently appeared in a
Sunday paper in the middle west, and its logic and wisdom was so forceable that it
greatly impressed the writer to pass it on to the readers of The Voice in The Wilderness.
Truth is truth, no matter from what source it comes. God’s ways are past finding out.
The time is come that the word of god must be heard. As says Mr. Robertson, the
author of the above article, “The cold, illogical, unthinking, wishy-washy pulpit is
evidently passing away. So also is the ultra-denominational and sectarian pulpit. There
is too much gospel light in the world today for such pulpits. The sensational pulpit still
draws but it makes few converts to Christianity.”
What the modern ministry needs today is the Holy Ghost, and in the words of the
author, “the pulpit will glow with a divine unction almost, if not altogether, irresponsible.”
There is no getting around it, the church’s greatest need is the Holy Spirit of God. Let
men say what they will, it cannot be denied, that the God of early days of Christianity is
just the same today.
Mr. Robinson goes on to say, “The people go to church to hear the gospel and not a dry
dissertation on current topics. Wherever the gospel is preached in its fullness, there the
pulpit is growing in power.”
A Symposium
We shall present our readers a symposium on the foregoing subject by a score or more
eminent ministers:
“Though the word has gone forth that the people are through with the parson,
nevertheless the facts show that the people never wanted the parson so badly as they
do today and were never more willing to pay so much for his services.”
“Routine preaching will never wake up a sleepy Christian, or smite with conviction a
resisting sinner, but the gospel of Christ it still the wisdom and power of God unto
salvation, and wherever it is preached it creates a stir.”
“Of all the professions for young men to look forward to, I do not know another one that
seems to have such a scope before it in the future as preaching.”
“The greatest years of the pulpit are to come. The printing press is a mighty power, but
the printed page will never super cede the living voice.”
“The economic and political struggles of modern society are, in the last analysis,
41
religious struggles - their sole solution, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ set forth
through the human voice. Hence, there will always be an imperative need for the gospel
minister.”
“The question of Daniel Webster is still pertinent: ‘Where have the life-giving waters of
civilization sprung up, save in the track of the Christian ministry?’ Neither philosophy nor
science has ever delivered men from the dominion of superstition or the horrors of
idolatry. The Gospel and the Gospel alone, effects this. It is God’s way of emancipating
the whole man, and it will be more effective till the last redeemed soul is gathered in.”
“There are nine reasons why the pulpit is not as effective today as it might be, though I
believe it is more effective than it ever was before:
1. “By being more independent and spiritual. Preachers cringe too much. They need
more Christian heroism. “They should speak out. Let them speak to the people all the
words of this life, whether they will hear or forbear. The printed truth cuts with a sharp
edge, the spoken truth burns as well as cuts. Let the truth burn.”
2. “By being more doctrinal. Bring out, things in order, and constantly emphasize
the great and vital truths of the gospel. Great truths produce great thoughts, and great
thoughts make great men. The declaration of God is the highest and best reason we
can have for believing anything. Give the people God’s truth. They are always the best
and always effective.”
3. “Mighty is the written word of God, but the word never conquered until it was made
flesh. A man’s force in this world, other things being equal, is just in the ratio of the force
and the strength of his heart. A full-hearted man is always a powerful man. Let the
gospel become incarnated in the preacher and then out of a full heart let him speak, and
his pulpit will be a conquering power.”
4. “The fires are burning low on many altars because preachers wander away from the
42
cross, or veil its magnetic attractions with the speculations of men. Get back to the
cross; present, explain and emphasize its fundamental truths and the pulpit will be the
power of God. The people want to know about the atonement.”
5. “Truly I am, saith the prophet, ‘Full of power by the spirit of the Lord.’ Here is, after all,
the best way of making the pulpit more effective. Let the minister be filled with the Holy
Ghost and the pulpit will glow with a divine unction almost, if not altogether, irresistible.”
6. “It is said that Demosthenes told Athens only what Athens knew, that he simply blew
upon the people’s hearts and kindled them into a flame. So was it with Peter on the day
of Pentecost. What the people most need is not so much new truth, as new and more
vivid conceptions of the truth they already have. Give them this, and the pulpit will be
admired, and loved and glorified in, as a mighty saving power.”
7. “The pulpit would be more effective if the accessories of the pulpit were better and
more in accordance with the dignity, importance and spirituality of the heavenly themes
discussed. Many a good sermon has been spoiled by a silly anthem, or foolish, fashion
plate choir, a general spirit of irreverence, or awkward gesture, or flippant remarks, or
something else in itself very trivial. Effectiveness is gained by watching these things.
8. “The pulpit would be more effective if professing Christians would stop their criticizing
and go to work to save souls. On the contrary, it has many out of the kingdom. A God-
fearing soul-loving, constantly praying, always-active and peaceable church makes the
pulpit a power.
9. “Talk it up. Speak well of the church and its services, its pastor and its choir, its forms
of worship and its missionary efforts. Tell to others the help it has been to you and the
good you have received from attendance on its ordinances. If all members of the church
would do this, if they would speak as kindly of the church and its services as some of
them do of their lodge or social gatherings, what a power for good the church would be.
Just try it.”
1. POSITIVE. “The preacher should be certain of his facts. ‘Pillow my head on no guess
when I am dying.’ Believe your beliefs, and doubts, give the people the facts, clear and
concise. The power of the truth is the only thing in this country to regulate the religious
principles. Out, therefore with the whole truth.”
2. UNCTUOUS. “No preacher can expect that others in this energetic age will be
brought under the influence of the gospel, when the preacher’s own feelings are flat and
stale. The symbol of a conquering church is a flame of fire. Be filled, therefore, with the
spirit, and then stand and speak all the words of this life.”
43
3. INTELLIGENT. :Christianity can never rise higher in any community than the
intellectual character of its teachers. It takes more and better brains to be a successful
preacher today than it ever did before. Men must be convinced before they can be
persuaded. Knowledge, not ignorance, is what convinces thinking men.:
4. SCRIPTUAL. “The state of the church and of the world requires that more attention in
our preaching be given to the Bible. It is the preacher’s only text book. God has placed
no other in his hand. It is his imperative duty to preach the Bible, and nothing but the
Bible. This is what our age most needs. If God has spoken, the people want to know it,
and want to know just what He has said.”
5. ENERGETIC. “God may, by way of a miracle, raise a man to life by the bones of a
dead prophet, but we are not to expect Him to work miracles to supply our lack
of exertion. Ardent feelings, devoted piety, and indefatigable industry are the
unalterable conditions of success in the minister’s calling. The world will never be
converted without great sacrifices and great labor.”
6. COMMON SENSE. “In the great work of promoting religion there never yet has been
employed half as much common sense as the case calls for. While the religion which it
is the minister’s province to teach is unchangeable, the methods of presenting it are
almost endless. It is only by Christianity showing in a very practical way its vital
connection with every day concerns of average men and women, that can vindicate its
lofty claims. Let the minister show that ‘godliness is profitable unto all things having
promise of the life that now is, and of the which is to come.’”
7. PERSONAL. “Daniel Webster spoke not only for himself, but for a mighty multitude of
hungry souls when he said, ‘When a man preaches to me I want him to make a
personal matter of it.’ Christ saves the world by saving the individual.
Let everyone under the minister’s preaching feel I am the poor sinner Jesus came to
save.”
8. JOYFUL. “Every preacher should take the great jubilee trumpet and sound such
sweet notes of heavenly melody as shall, adim all the din and bustle and turmoil of this
gross, materialistic age, be heard waxing louder and still louder, until every discordant
sound shall be overpowered by the rapturous hosannas of a redeemed world.”
9. ATTRACTIVE. “The power that saves is the power of attraction. ‘I if I be lifted up from
the earth, will draw all men unto me.’ The truth must not only be spoken, but it must be
spoken in love. Love draws. It always has, and always will. Even the faith that saves is
the faith that works by love. Love is everything. Let the voice of the pulpit be the voice
of love and there will always be some hearts ready to respond to its call.”
After reading the foregoing article there is no minister filled with the Holy Ghost who
cannot see what an opportunity lies ahead for them to carry the true gospel to a dying
world. There is a thirsting in the human heart for reality. The Spirit of God is falling, but
44
many around about us know it not. There are pulpits scattered everywhere from which
the word of God is preached with an unction that is irresistible. The harvest is white.
Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that He may send forth laborers into the harvest.

Matters Touching The King
“My heart is inciting a good matter;” my heart is meditating upon something that is good;
my heart is creating some good things. From the abundance of the heart the mouth
speaketh. You know your heart better than anyone else. You know whether your heart
is inclined to righteous. No body needs to tell you about own heart. Whenever a man is
honest in his own heart, it is no trouble for him to say, “Lord search my heart”, because
his heart is honest. The devil cannot overthrow a man whose heart is honest. No
wonder God says, “Son, give me thy heart”. The Lord sees not as man sees, but he
looks into the heart. “My heart is inciting a good matter: I speak of things I have made
concerning the King.” David must have been setting his affection on things above and
not on things of the earth. He had something in his heart to speak of about the Lord;
talking about his goodness, how he had delivered and comforted him.
There is nothing sweeter than keeping a sweet song in your heart until the sick person
you are visiting gets stronger, or singing hymns to those who are heavy. How it cheers
things up when somebody is in a corner crying or weeping over some trouble that has
come into the family, to have someone come and sing a sweet song of comfort, a joyful
song. When you are fighting darkness, and the power of the enemy what ought the
songs of Zion do for the people of God? “I am speaking of things that that I have made
touching the King,” speaking of his will, of faith, of supplying needs, of how to talk to the
sick; we have so much to talk about touching the King.
My tongue is the pen; my tongue is going to record things, not like man with a book, but
I am going to speak to God. A pen writes, it records; I am going to be a living pen. My
tongue is ready to put down what God has done for us. This is what we are for. We are
to talk about the Lord. I know there are many people who don’t like it, but there is
somebody who will be glad to hear some one talk about the Lord. The written word of
God will outshine darkness every time.
I am touching the King, telling how fair he is. When you see the beauty of the Lord, you
will not backslide. I didn’t see how people can fall away. If I should backslide, I might as
well “check my grip” for another destination. The best thing to do is to live for Jesus. It is
best to honor the Lord; to be honest and true. I ask God to keep me in the way. When I
look Him in the face, I want to be free from condemnation. I am even afraid not to speak
to people, lest I should pass somebody and they should say that I am “stuck up”. The
Holy Ghost does not make us “stuck up”.
Wherever you go, there is always somebody to see you. You are a city set upon a hill
that cannot be hid. When you stand up to testify be sure that people cannot point their
fingers at you. If they see you go into a saloon, or a picture show, they will point you out.
“Grace is poured into thy lips:” when you talk to some people you cannot tell whether
46
they are sinners or saints, or whether there is grace in their lips. Grace makes your
words round and smooth. Think of Jesus’ words when he said, “The Spirit of the Lord is
upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath sent
me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable
year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19. Some people’s voices are so hard and screeching
whenever they get out of line with God that their voices tell on them, but grace is poured
into thy lips: therefore God has blessed thee forever. The people marveled at the
“gracious” words that proceeded from his lips.
I used to think when people received the Holy Ghost, they were all in unity of the Spirit.
After I got rid of all my thoughts, I found that you have to keep the word of God on the
people in order to keep them in harmony. You have to keep constantly telling them
about it. I am going to keep stirring up your memory. Peter says, “Wherefore I will not be
negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and
be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this
tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.” We find a lot of ministers who
don’t know how to keep the unity, but this is not God’s will. He says, “If a man loves me,
he will keep my words.” I believe we ought to keep the words of God and then the
Father will love us; he will come unto us and make his abode with us. When there is
unity, the Spirit of God comes upon the people. On the day of Pentecost, there was
unity. The same spirit that fell upon Christ came down upon the body that day. God
commanded a blessing to rest upon Zion. Therefore God has blessed thee forever.
Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most Mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. Having
the strength of life, the power of the Spirit, we have a sword on our thigh. Gird
yourselves with truth. Make yourselves strong. Practice having a good spirit, speaking
good words, going to church on time, not getting angry, praying every morning and not
going to work until you do pray. You have to get to the place where you can practice
some these things. Speak a word to somebody every day, practice makest perfect. The
Lord will teach you how to meet the enemy and put him to flight. We don’t want to be
talking Christians, but doing Christians. Gird on thy sword. The voice of the Lord is full
of majesty. Be a true soldier of the cross.
I am a member if Him; I belong to Christ; a member of his body and of his bone. A
church full of truth and spirit ought to be able to move things, even mountains.
Pray that God give victory in his church. Our ruling authority is righteousness, freely
working and laboring to keep the victory. The church of God cannot be overthrown, for
there is no other way but God’s way. You must love righteousness and hate
wickedness. If the devil tries to put it upon you, hate it anyway. I don’t understand
people getting into sin when they are told to hate it. When you hate sin it cannot creep
upon you. Thou lovest righteousness and hatest wickedness - if you want to be
anointed above thy fellow man, hate wickedness. Destruction is on every side, trouble is
in the land, the Lord is at hand. Don’t let your joy leak out. Come to church regularly. All
thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby
47
they have made thee glad; all these are the expressions of God. Righteousness sends
a sweet fragrance into the nostrils of God.
The best gold is very highly priced and when there is a scarcity of stuff, things go up.
Consider the privilege God gives of allowing you to be a queen. It pays to be a member
of the queen, the Lamb’s wife highly favored with the Divine Life. You have kin people
trying to pull you away from the Lord, but you had better forget them. I don’t care how
much the world calls for me, I am going to stay on the Lord’s side. If you come out from
your people’s house and from the world, God desires to see you. God is getting the
church in order for his coming. The king shall greatly desire thy beauty - his church’s
beauty. There is something in store for us. No man can say that he is the Lord’s but by
the Holy Ghost. We are begotten to worship him is spirit and in truth. The people will
give the rightful place of authority, when you live right. When grace is poured into your
lips, the people will say that you have the real thing. Some religious people will ask you
to pray for them. Very often the people call upon the Saints to pray for them. Keep in
line. Keep tuned up. Somebody’s salvation depends upon you.
We see over the hill a great outpouring of the Spirit of God coming. Be not ashamed of
what you have. We don’t have much finery on the outside, but oh, on the inside; no
jewelry on, but dressed up on the inside. God help the saints to put on their beauty in
their hearts. Your beauty must be on the inside. God is working on your garments. Are
you washed in the blood? Are you getting ready for the King? If ever we Are able to
meet God, we must have on the garment of fine needle work. Let the days linger; let the
time be prolonged; I must walk with God.

The Closing of A Dispensation
Some time ago a brother published a vision that had been seen by one of the saints in
his Assembly, in which a multitude of people, with astonished faces, were running to
and fro, crying, “The dispensation is drawing to a close!” This was at the beginning of
the outpouring of the Holy Spirit a number of years ago.
To-day we are in the midst of its fulfillment. The end is near! The nations are rising
against nations; kingdoms against kingdoms; and upon earth there is a “distress of
nations with perplexity.” The times of the gentiles is about fulfilled. “The dispensation is
drawing to a close.”
At the close of the antedeluvian dispensation God brought about a “water test” whereby
He saved Noah and his family. (See I Peter 3:20, 21.)
When the Egyptian dispensation was brought to a close it was through the water (Red
Sea) that God separated His people from Pharaoh. Exodus 14:15-30. I Corinthians
10:1-3.
The Wilderness dispensation for forty years came to its end by passing through the
waters of Jordan in a season when the river was overflowing its banks. There was
“much water” there. Joshua 3:9-17.
When God prepared to break the “yoke of Midian” and deliver His people from their
oppressors, He closed that dispensation by having Gideon to bring the people down to
the water and be tested. Only three hundred passed the test. Judges 7:1-7.
With twelve barrels of water poured upon the altar and the sacrifice Elijah proved the
true God, who answered by fire, and quickly brought the dispensation of Baalism to a
close. I Kings 18:30-40.
As the dispensation of the Law was drawing to a close, God again sends a man by the
name of John to baptize with water. The kingdom of Judah was drawing to a close, and
the “kingdom of heaven was at hand.” John’s baptism was dispensational. It was for the
purpose of separating a people for the coming messiah. John 1:29-30. All who accepted
John’s baptism had no trouble in accepting Christ. John 3:25-30.
All who were baptized under john’s dispensational baptism were evidently baptized
again when it came to the personal acceptance of Jesus as the Lamb of God that taketh
away the sin of the world. (See John 3:22.) here it seems that Jesus tarried and re-
baptized His disciples, that is, the twelve, and after the twelve re-baptized the others
that were formerly with john. (John 4:1, 2.) And for this cause “there arose a question
between John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.” The question was, no doubt,
49
how many times must a man be baptized before he is purified. That they were re-
baptized is further proven by the apostle Paul’s ministry at Ephesus. Acts 19:1-6.
To-day we are facing the closing of another dispensation. Many have been baptized
upon their personal acceptance of Christ, while, too, there are many who have not been
baptized at any time, but in this closing hour of the world’s history, and the church age
God is calling His people to pass through the water. He is closing this dispensation in
like manner as He did all other dispensations in the past. Let us beware lest we “reject
the counsel of God against ourselves” (Luke 7:29, 30) and frustrate God’s purpose in
our lives by refusing to be baptized. (See Weymouth on Luke 7:29, 30.)

The Fatherhood of God In Christ
There are many honest souls who are eager to obey the voice of God and be baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ, but who are intimidated by persons who misconstrue the
Scriptures, which say, “He is anti-Christ that denieth the Father and the Son.” I John
2:22.
There is no one who knows the word of God and has been baptized in Jesus’ Name,
that denies the Father and the Son in Christ Jesus. To acknowledge the Father and the
Son does not necessarily mean to believe in “three persons in the Godhead.”
The Fatherhood of God is found only in the Son, who was God manifested in the flesh.
The following portions of this article will be sufficient to convince any God-fearing
person that he cannot deny the Father by being baptized in the name of Jesus.
“Whosoever denieth the Son the same has not the Father. But he that acknowledgeth
the Son hath the Father also.” I John 2:23.
We desire to call the attention of the reader to the above quotation for his playful
consideration. While reading the above passage the words “the Father also” drew my
particular attention. I believe it will help many to see God’s purpose in these last days.
The thought before us is, that he that denieth the Son (Jesus Christ) the same has
denied the Father also. Why is this? Is it not because Jesus and the Father are one?
John 10:30. There is no Scripture that says “He that denieth the Father, the same hath
not the Son,” but on the contrary, all Scriptures seem to be opposite. By this I mean that
all Scriptures identify the Father in the Son.
God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:19. “God was
manifested in the flesh.” I Timothy 3:16. Therefore when one turns from Christ he turns
from God.
He that believeth not on the Son, the same believeth not on the Father; but he that
believeth on the Son, believeth on the Father also. Compare John 12:44, 45; 14:1. The
Jews believed that God would take their sins away. Jeremiah 31:31-34, but they did not
believe that Jesus had anything to do with it; and Jesus said, “If ye believe not that I am
He, ye shall die in your sins.” John 8:24.
“He that knoweth not the Son, the same knoweth not the Father, he that knoweth the
Son the same knoweth the Father also. John 8:19; 14:7. To know Christ is to know God,
the Father, for the mystery of God, the Father, is Christ. Colossians 2:2, 9. He that
seeth not the Son, the same seeth not the Father; but he that seeth the Son seeth the
Father also. John 12:45; 14:9. He that loveth not the Son the same loveth not the
Father; but he that loveth the Son loveth the Father also. John 15:23, 24. To love God
one must love Jesus, for Jesus and God are one and inseparable. If the Father and the
51
Son were two separate persons then we could love one and hate the other, as the Jews
sought to do. If you love not Jesus, you cannot love God, but you cannot love Jesus
without loving God, for Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, in a visible form.
If the above Scriptures are true, and no one could honestly say they are not, why does
not the same hold with the name used in baptism? Let us look at it from a Scriptural
stand point. He that baptizeth not in the name of the Son (Jesus), the same baptizeth
not in the name of the Father; but he that baptizeth or is baptized in the name of the
Son (Jesus), baptizeth or is baptized in the name of the Father also.
By the Scriptures this is clearly proven, from the fact the commission given, as recorded
by St. Matthew, to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost. Matthew 28:18-19; but on the day of Pentecost, and thereafter, according to the
book of Acts, all the disciples baptized in the name of Jesus, the Son, proving that they
recognized it to be the name of the Father also. See Acts 2:38; 8:12-16; 9:18, with Acts
22:16; 10:47. 48; 19:5.
All who baptized in the name of Jesus are baptized in the name of the Father also, but
those who have not been baptized in the name of Jesus, have never been baptized in
the name of the Father. The only way to fulfill the command of Jesus in Matthew 28:19,
is to do as the Holy Ghost authorized on the day of Pentecost and as was carried out by
the Apostles according to the book of Acts. The only way that a person can really deny
the Father, is to fail to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the true and living God. I John
5:20; Jude 25.
When you are baptized in Jesus’ name you thereby acknowledge that the Father, Son
and Holy Ghost are one. I John 5:7, and that in Christ Jesus dwelleth all of the fullness
of the Godhead in a bodily form. Colossians 2:9. Be not faithless but believe. John
12:44, 45; 20:26-28.

The Immensity of the Holy City
The wisdom of God is Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom are hid all the treasures of
wisdom and knowledge. (See Luke 11:49; I Corinthians 1:30, Colossians 2:2-3). We are
complete in him. (John 16:12-15). He has set before us an open door, and no man can
shut it. It is our privilege to enter into a full knowledge of all His possessions. The hour is
come that the Son of Man must be glorified. No flesh shall glory in His presence.
Because of this, many have failed God. Fir thus it is written, “Let not the wise man glory
in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that glorieth glory in this,
that he understand and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving kindness,
judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”
Jeremiah 9:23, 24.
For many days we have wondered about the dimensions of the New Jerusalem, its
location, and its glorious beauty as described in the book of Revelation. John saw it
descending from God out of heaven after he had gotten the revelation through the Spirit
that Jesus was the Almighty God, the Lord which is, which was, and which is to come
(see revelation 1:1; John 4:24). And he plainly tells us, “I was in the spirit.” hence,
without the Spirit we can never understand the things that are now being revealed. It is
the Spirit that searches the deep things of God. (I Corinthians 2:9, 10.)
There are two things necessary to make a city; the people and their houses, or
places of abode. The greatness of a city is determined by its inhabitants. The wisdom
and intelligence of the people are displayed upon the magnificence of its buildings. Thus
it is with the City of God. Its inhabitants, the Bride of Christ, are filled with wisdom and
beauty. And that beauteous grace that is within her (psalms 45:13) shall be portrayed
upon the wall of the New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem is the bride, the Lamb’s wife,
dwelling in her eternal city. Her light is like unto a STONE most Precious. That Precious
Stone is Christ: (I Peter 2:4, 6, 7). His life was the “light” of men. (John 1:4). No mortal
mind can comprehend, nor describe in human language the splendor of that city that is
now hid away in God. The jasper stone, clear as a crystal, the sapphire, the chalcedony,
emerald, sardonyx, sardis, topaz, beryl and all the precious stones in their most glorious
description are but faint comparisons when taken in relation to the glory of the City that
is to come. Wonderful things are spoken of thee, O City of God! The wall of the City is of
jasper; the City itself is pure Gold!
We are told that that city lieth four-square, and it measures twelve (12,000) thousand
furlongs either way. The length and the breadth and the height are equal. There are 8
furlongs to a mile. Taking this as a basis we will find that the height, length, and breadth
of the City is 1,500 miles!
This City has 12 foundations (floors), each being separated by a distance of 125 miles.
53
The second floor would, or foundation, bears the name of one of the 12 apostles of the
Lamb.
For a time I had considered the city to be rather small for the saints to dwell in
eternally, but when I became awakened to what God had really prepared for them that
loved Him (John 14:2, 3; I Corinthians 2:9, 10), I was lost with amazement. In order to
give you an idea of the immensity of our heavenly habitation we hereby set forth in
figures an illustration of its magnitude. Were that city to be divided into rooms one mile
wide, and one mile high, and one mile long, it would contain three billion, three hundred
and seventy-five million rooms (3,375,000,000), each room containing the space of 1
cubic mile!
One of the most astonishing facts about its immensity is the time it would require to
visit throughout that City, viewing each room separately. If one had begun at the
creation of Adam to go through the City, spending I hour in each room, for 24 hours a
day, at the end of 6,000 years he would have visited only 52,570,560, leaving
3,322,529,440 rooms yet to be gone through! This calculation includes all the leap years
that occur in 6,000 years, deducting the century year when there is no leap year.
To bring the calculation down to a finer point let us give one minute’s time to visit
each room of the above dimensions. At the expiration of 6,000 years one would have
visited 3,154,233,600 rooms, leaving 22,866,400 rooms yet un-entered. By the time one
could complete the entire circuit and return to the point from which he started “old
things” will have become “new.” when we carefully consider these things we are struck
with astonishment and are compelled to exclaim in the prophetic words of old, “What
hath God wrought?”
But shall we stop here? No! let us look again. To be confined to the city alone would
seem to be sufficient to attract our attention throughout eternity. How little could we see
in one minute in such a space! But that is not all, for we are told that there are three
gates on the East, on the North, and on the West, and on the South, so that when we
shall have tried beholding the things within the walls thereof, we will have perfect liberty
to soar away through unlimited space and feast on the handiwork of our Great God
forever and ever, and throughout the ages to come he will continue to show unto us the
exceeding riches of His grace, in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:7.
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How
unsearchable are his judgments, and His ways past finding out. For who hath been His
Counselor? Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again.
For him, and through him, and to him, are all things, to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

The Seven Spirits of God
It has been asked by many what is meant by the “Seven Spirits of God” if there is but
one Spirit. This expression s found in Revelation 4:5 and 5:6. In one place it says the
seven lamps are the “seven Spirits of God,” and in the other place it says the seven
eyes of the Lamb are the “seven Spirits of God.”
The seven lamps are evidently the illuminations of the Holy Spirit throughout the
church age. The fourth and fifth chapters of revelation are visions of the preparation
judgment; but the judgment will be rendered to the people according to the “illumination
of the Spirit” in the dispensation in which they lived.
Seven lamps - seven Spirits - “The Holy Ghost in his seven-fold operation, as the
explanation of Jameson, Fausett and Brown, commentators, but I believe the former is
the true interpretation of the mystery. However, it is the One and self-same Spirit.

Jesus Of Nazareth
Since there is much controversy about the holy (three persons) trinity, we hereby set
forth some plain scriptures on the HOLY ONE of Israel.
Whom hast thou reproached, and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, even
against the HOLY ONE of Israel. 2 Kings 19:22
I have not concealed the words of the HOLY ONE. Job 6:10.
Unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou HOLY ONE of Israel. Psalms 71:22
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the HOLY ONE of Israel.
Psalms78:41
For the Lord is our defense; and the HOLY ONE of Israel is our King. Psalms 89:18
They have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the HOLY ONE of Israel in the midst
of thee. Isaiah 12:6
Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the HOLY ONE of Israel in the
midst of thee. Isaiah 12:6
For thus saith the Lord God, the HOLY ONE of Israel: In returning and rest shall ye be
saved. Isaiah 30:15
Of whom shall ye liken Me, or shall I be EQUAL? Saith the HOLY ONE. Isaiah 40:25

41:14
Thus saith the Lord, your REDEEMER, the HOLY ONE of Israel. I have brought down
the nobles. Isaiah 43:14
As for our REDEEMER, the Lord of Host is his name, the HOLY ONE of Israel. Isaiah

Thus saith the Lord, the REDEEMER, the HOLY ONE of Israel; I am the Lord thy God.
Isaiah 48:17 49:7
For thy maker is thy husband; the Lord of host is his name; and Thy REDEEMER the
HOLY ONE of Israel; the God of the whole earth he shall be called. Isaiah 54:5

I, the Lord, am thy Savior and thy REDEEMER, the mighty ONR of Jacob. Isaiah 60:16
For I know that my REDEEMER lives, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the
earth, yet in my flesh I shall see God. Job 19:25-27
For David spake concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face. Therefore
my heart rejoiced and my tongue was glad; for thou wilt not leave my soul in hell,
neither will thou suffer thine HOLY ONE to see corruption.
Men and brethren the patriarch David being a prophet he seeing this before spake of
the resurrection of Christ, and that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see
corruption. Acts 2:25-32.
There is but one God and that God is Jesus. The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost
are one. In Christ Jesus dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9.

The Only True God
With reverence and adoration we bow our knees unto Jesus Christ the “Victim of the
Flaming Sword” to give to our god the glory due His name. And we now make mention
that His name is exalted above every name that is in heaven and in earth. Hence, the
demons of hell are enraged, the religious world is astonished, and the tents of the
fearful pilgrims are being violently shaken by the rushing mighty wind that is moving
through the land proclaiming the NAME of the Lord. He who was slain is worthy.
We have beheld the Lamb of God. We have honored the Prince of Peace. We have
rejoiced in the Rock of our salvation, and have walked in the Light of Life. We have
seen that Christ was our Shepherd as well as the door of the fold. He is the root and
offspring of David, as well as his son and his Lord. We have claimed Him as our High
Priest in heaven, and the offering that was slain for our sins. He is the Temple of God
and the Shewbread, the vail, the altar, and the Lamb. He was Servant and master at the
same time. We have found Him to be the foundation of the Church, and the Chief
Corner Stone thereof. He is a Destroying Storm, and covert as well from the Tempest.
Considering all these things, it is no wonder that the people cried, “What manner of man
is this?” “Who art Thou? Whom maketh Thou thyself?”

The document offers several strategies for overcoming discouragement, including acknowledging one's failures while relying on God's help and grace . It encourages looking to Jesus as a guide rather than focusing on personal imperfections . Additionally, the community aspect, such as the prayers and support of others, is valued as a means to uphold one’s faith . Embracing the wisdom provided through scripture and asking for divine guidance are highlighted as methods to maintain courage and commitment in the face of setbacks .
The theological basis for requiring Christ’s blood and Jesus’s name during baptism lies in the inseparable nature of the two as presented in scriptural teachings . Baptism in His name signifies participation in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, while His blood implies redemption and purification of sins . The document references multiple scriptures that emphasize belief in Jesus alongside baptism, underscoring that this combination is essential for remission of sins and salvation .
The document suggests that living righteously creates a positive perception by others, as righteousness is viewed as having a sweet fragrance that God and others recognize . It emphasizes maintaining spiritual integrity and inner beauty, which causes others to acknowledge the authenticity of a believer’s faith . When people live by these principles, others often request their prayers, demonstrating a respect and recognition of their spiritual standing .
The document highlights that salvation involves both water baptism and the blood of Christ, as they are inseparable from the name of Jesus . Baptism in water symbolizes the cleansing of sins, but its effectiveness as a saving medium comes from the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the blood that is connected with His name . This interconnection is shown in scriptures that state belief and baptism are necessary for salvation, indicating a deeper spiritual transaction beyond the physical act .
The documents assert that God's plan of salvation through baptism has not changed over time . This is supported by the consistency of scriptural mandates that emphasize belief in the name of Jesus followed by baptism as a consistent requirement for salvation since the apostolic age . The text argues against modern methods replacing traditional teachings, implying that the original plan of salvation as revealed by the Holy Ghost remains unaltered and applicable to both Jews and Gentiles universally .
The document acknowledges human limitations, particularly short-sightedness and a focus on personal imperfections . These limitations hinder understanding God's broader purposes. It stresses the necessity of seeking divine wisdom, which is freely given, to understand God’s grander vision . By looking beyond personal flaws to Jesus, believers can align with God's will, thus facilitating spiritual growth despite inherent human limitations .
Wisdom is depicted as the correct application of knowledge that is crucial for understanding and executing spiritual principles . It enables individuals to hate evil, considered the manifestation of wisdom and understanding . Scriptures such as James 1:5 emphasize asking for wisdom from God to gain spiritual insight, which implies that wisdom aids in aligning oneself with God's plans . The fear of the Lord is equated to wisdom, and departing from evil is understanding, both of which are necessary for spiritual alignment .
According to the document, while some might charge God with injustice for bringing judgment on sinners, religious teachings counter this criticism by framing it within God's broader judgment of the world . Such teachings assert that God provides guidance, protection, and help through His Spirit and expects believers to acknowledge their failings and rely on His grace . The idea is that God’s justice isn't arbitrary but is communicated through a path of redemption and grace available to all .
The document emphasizes that true spiritual beauty lies within, rather than outward religious practices or appearances . While outward finery is minimal, internal spiritual beauty is cultivated through righteousness and adherence to spiritual teachings, reflecting piety that God and others recognize . This inner beauty is portrayed as essential for meeting God's approval and standing apart as a member of the faithful community, indicating the primacy of internal over external attributes .
The document suggests that being 'born again' is necessary because humanity is inherently sinful . A newborn Christian, like a child, may stumble but God helps them to not be discouraged by failures . Spiritual growth involves acknowledging one's failings and relying on God's grace and power to overcome sin, indicating a process of spiritual maturation from initially crawling to eventually walking in faith . This rebirth and growth are intertwined with God's continued support and guidance, despite initial failures .
